Dr. Kamel Rouibah is an Associate Professor of information systems, College of Business Administration (CBA) at Kuwait University. He holds a PhD in Information Systems from Ecole Polytechnique of Grenoble, France. Before joining CBA, he worked at the Faculty of Technology Management at Eindhoven (Netherlands) . His research interests include Design of Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Engineering Data Management, Workflow Management, Information System and Information Technology Acceptance. While there has been considerable research on the extension of TAM (Venkatesh and Davis 2000; Yi et al. 2006), limitations include the omission of an important privacy-based construct in the context of mobile devices. To fill in this gap, this study introduces a model that describes Camera Mobile Phone (CMP) adoption in the Arab world. Data collected from 240 users in Kuwait were tested against the extended TAM. Results reveal perceived enjoyment is the most direct determinant of CMP usage, followed second by personal innovativeness and third by perceived usefulness. However, results show privacy exerts the weakest effect on CMP usage.

With the seamless inclusion of a camera-mobile phone (CMP) as a regular part of people's everyday... more With the seamless inclusion of a camera-mobile phone (CMP) as a regular part of people's everyday life, businesses have tried to explore their potential as an e-commerce tool. Even without the Internet, CMP is a new technology that is in widespread use in the State of Kuwait. This study reports on the findings of a study exploring the intention to use and acceptance use of CMP prior to retail purchases using the second technology acceptance model (TAM 2) in a collectivism culture where social group affects individual decisions. Based on a sample of 151 users in Kuwait, the study reveals that TAM 2 provides limited results. The intention to use CMP is only determined by subjective norms, ease of use and camera usefulness. Surprisingly, the study results revealed that the contribution of social norms on intention to use is weak and less than that of usefulness. Among external variables (image, job relevancy, output quality, and result demonstrability), only job relevancy exerts an indirect effect on the intention to use via the "usefulness" component of this model.

While there has been considerable research on technology adoption in the workplace, far fewer studies have been done to understand the motives of technology acceptance for social use. To fill in this gap, the authors develop a model that is based on the theory of the technology acceptance model, the theory of reasoned action, the attachment motivation theory, innovation diffusion theory, and the theory of flow. The first research methods used was a qualitative field study that identified the variables that most drive CMP acceptance and build the research model using a sample of 83 consumers. The second method was a quantitative field study, which collected from a sample of 240 consumers in Kuwait in order to test the model. Results reveal the "social use" and "use before shopping" uses, explaining 32.3% and 30% of the variance, respectively. Most importantly, the study reveals that personal innovativeness, attachment motivation, and social norms have an important effect on CMP acceptance.

The goals of this study are to identify: The most common and well known e-payment tools among 13, the most wellsatisfied, e-payment tool, the users’ intention to use the e-payment tools not currently used now, what are the obstacles against using the e-payment tools, and evaluating the most critical variables that affect the e-payment alternatives. In addition, the study aims to explore the demographics, cultural, and technical variables that affect the e-payment uses. Although there is a large body of research on trust in e-commerce, a crucial gap is that extant s... more Although there is a large body of research on trust in e-commerce, a crucial gap is that extant studies have not examined the role of perceived enjoyment on trust in the presence of risk perception in Arab countries. In this paper, an online trust model is presented that exhibits the impact of four external factors (personal innovativeness, propensity to trust, familiarity, and presence of third-party seals) on the intention to use an online payment via the mediation of three endogenous variables (enjoyment, risk, and customer trust). The data was collected from Kuwait, an Arab country, with a mixed of data collection survey methods of 150 online questionnaires and 200 paper-based questionnaires. The data was then analyzed using partial least squares (PLS) regression. The findings revealed that customer trust and enjoyment are two important drivers of the online payment adoption, which neutralized risk perceptions. This study discusses these results as well as research and a managerial perspectives that could assist in enhancing online payment acceptance in Kuwait.

تسعى الدراسة للتعرف على واقع استخدام وسائل الدفع الالكترونية المتوافرة أثناء التسوق الالكتروني من... more تسعى الدراسة للتعرف على واقع استخدام وسائل الدفع الالكترونية المتوافرة أثناء التسوق الالكتروني من طرف عينة مكونة من 350 (الذكور 121 والإناث 229) مستهلك في دولة الكويت باستخدام الاستبانة الورقية والالكترونية. وتتمثل الأهداف الرئيسية للدراسة في تحديد أكثر وسائل الدفع الالكترونية معرفةً واستخداماً من طرف المستخدمين من بين الثلاثة عشر طريقة، وكذلك الشعور بالرضا، والتعرف على اتجاهات المستخدمين نحو استخدام وسائل الدفع غير المستخدمة حاليا، وما هي الحواجز والعوائق التي تحول دون هذا الاتجاه، وتحديد أهم معايير اختيار البدائل المتوافرة، كما تسعى الدراسة الى استقصاء دور العوامل الديموغرافية متمثلة في متغيري الجنس والخلفية التعليمية، وإلى جانبهما الخبرة مع استخدام الحواسيب نحو استخدام وسائل الدفع الالكترونية. وخلصت نتائج الدراسة إلى أن أكثر وسائل الدفع علماً بوجودها هي: بطاقة كيى نت، والبطاقة الائتمانية، وبطاقة الدفع المسبق، والتسديد بخدمة الشراء من خارج الكويت والدفع عند التوصيل (Shop and Ship)، فيما أربعة الطرق الأكثر استخداما وحصولا على رضا العينة المبحوثة هي: التسديد ببطاقة الدفع الفوري (كيى نت)، والبطاقة الائتمانية، وخدمة Shop and Ship، وببطاقة الدفع المسبق، كما بينت أن نية الفئة المبحوثة التوجه مستقبلا صوب استخدام: التسديد ببطاقة "كاش يو"، واستخدام البطاقة المدنية في الدفع، وخدمة Shop and Ship. أما بخصوص العوائق، فلقد أظهرت النتائج أن الخوف من مخاطر الاختراقات الأمنية من طرف الهاكرز حظي بأعلى نسبة متبوعا بعدم وجود قوانين محلية تحمي خصوصية المستخدمين، و الشعور بالمشاكل الأمنية المتعلقة بضمان سّرية وتكامل وعدم إنكار عمليات الشراء ، والخوف من عدم الوفاء بالمعلومات المنشورة على المواقع و التي تخص شراء الخدمات والمنتجات، وأن أهم فوائد الاستخدام هي الشعور بالفوائد الكلية (القيمة المضافة)، وتقليل الجهد وتسهيل القيام بعمليات الشراء الإلكترونية، وأن أهم معايير الاختيار هي السمعة العالية للشركة، وسهولة الاستخدام، ووجود طرف ثالث كشركة ضمان مشهورة تحمي طرفي المعاملة، ووجود قبولا واسع النطاق للتكنولوجيا لدى نقاط البيع. والدراسة أيضاً توصلت إلى أن العوامل الديموغرافية (الجنس والعمر والوظيفة والمستوى التعليمي وعدد ساعات استخدامك للانترنت في اليوم والخبرة باستخدام الانترنت) تؤثر على معرفة طرق الدفع الالكترونية الثلاثة عشرة، ودرجة استخدامها، ودرجة الشعور بالرضا من استخدامها، ومعايير اختيارها، والشعور بفوائد وعوائق استخدامها. وقد اقترحت الدراسة عدة توصيات أكاديمية وتطبيقية من أجل زيادة انتشار خدمات الدفع الالكترونية في دولة الكويت
