Sustainable Development in Construction was written on the basis of an increased interest in the project management in a construction industry and a recently intensified discourse about a sustainable development. A term project relates to an original undertaking which has a specific aim, clear start/finish dates and all resources are allocated to particular tasks. Project management requires a coordination of activities of all stakeholders involved in the undertaking. However, applying stakeholder inclusiveness in a project: • increases the likelihood of more engaged and satisfied stakeholders, • increases the danger of losing focus on those stakeholders who possess the most critical resources for the project’s survival and progress, • increases the danger of inducing stakeholder disappointment due to expectation escalation and impossibility of embracing conflicting requirements and wishes. The construction industry is involved in creating physical assets which are the basis of many aspects of development. On the other hand, the industry, together with the building materials industries which supply it, is one of the largest exploiters of natural resources, both mineral and biological. Its activities cause irreversible transformations of the natural environment. Moreover, it adds to the accumulation of pollutants in the atmosphere. Construction has been considered as a source of the environmental problems ranging from excessive consumption of global resources both in terms of construction and building operation to the pollution of the surrounding environment. Thus, a research on green building design and using building materials to minimize environmental impact is already very popular. However, relying on the design of a project to achieve the goal of sustainable development, or to minimize impacts through appropriate management on site, is not sufficient to handle the current problem. The aim for sustainability assessment goes even further than at the design stage of a project to consider its importance at an early stage, before any detailed design or even before a commitment is made to go ahead with a development. The main debate on how to reconcile the needs of economic growth with ecological maintenance has centered on the popular concept of sustainable development. Sustainability has been also included in a series of annual conferences organized by the UTP University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz. The second international scientific conference Civil Engineering: Present Problems, Innovative Solutions (CEPPIS) in 2016 was set out to pay attention to recent trends especially sustainable development in the construction industry. The book was written in order to present some theoretical and practical considerations, experience and results of conducted investigations in the area of project management with a special attention to a phenomenon of sustainability. A complexity of the project management against a sustainable development was described in the book. This attitude results from a need for preserving limited resources while maintaining an economic activity. It is also essential because of a necessity of protecting natural elements for the next generations. The book is addressed to the scientists connected with project management discipline as well as to those who are responsible for creating an integrity of the project with the environment. A presented matter can become a source of inspiration for the academics involved in the sustainable development in construction industry and for those who are looking for some new solutions and more eco-friendly procedures and processes of the projects. Professional project managers hired by the modern companies should be interested in the issue. Some implementations can be useful for them in order to solve their contemporary problems in real circumstances. A text of the book was divided into two parts: 1. Sustainability in business 2. Sustainability and Nature Particular chapters present studies results of the scientific research on business, construction engineering, project management and sustainability from all over the world.

This behavior is related to many factors which affect the usage of the footbridge. In this study the effect of structure and street characteristics was investigated and analyzed to assess the usage of footbridges. Results showed that the vehicles speed is not supporting the increase of the footbridge usage, and the criteria of traffic volume matched the requirements of providing a footbridge where there is a high volume of vehicles. Also the results showed that the convenience factor for footbridge (no.1) referred to non-satisfaction of saving the time when pedestrian used the footbridge, but was satisfied on footbridge (no.2).The usage will be improved if the safety and convenience of using the footbridge are supported by integrated design of structure and street elements, and provide acceptable loss of time to pedestrians while using the...

In this paper, we are proposing a system design and show how it would be setup and to be used by other researchers. In addition, we (orally) going to illustrate 3 case studies; balancing the road traffic load and make the driving on highways and urban cities roads more comfort, Vehicles speed remote control, and theft vehicles remote control. Initially, the system has five main devices which would co-operate together to provide safety, assistance, and comfort for the drivers. Our system architecture can be an important and a unique part of the future leap. By applying this system on highways and cities roads, we expect to see an easy traffic flow, more efficient and comfort driving and less air pollution.

It is quite important to detect the emergency vehicles (e.g; ambulance) arrival to traffic light to give the green light for it to pass through. Many researchers have suggested and patented emergency vehicles detection systems however, according to our knowledge, none of them considered solving the effect of giving extra green time to a road while the queues are being built on others. This paper considers the problem of finding a better traffic light phase plan to stabilize/recover the situation at an effected intersection after solving an emergency vehicle existence. A hardware setup and a novel messaging protocol have been suggested to be set on roads and vehicles to collect roads real time data. In addition, a novel decision making protocol has been created to make the use of the collected data for making a better traffic light phase plan for an intersection. The phase plan has two main decisio...

Traffic congestion is increasingly happening especially at the urban areas because of the increasing population & urbanization. Accordingly, the traffic flow is not being run properly (vehicles delay & traffic congestion) and reduces the throughput at the intersections. We are taking the opportunity of using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to overcome

Waste management and recycle into a sustainable construction materials as proved to be an alternative for waste disposal helping out in the area of environmental pollution and economic. In recent years various type of waste has been used/reused in the development of sustainable construction materials. This study reviews various attempts that have been made to use sludge from different plants in construction industry. The mechanical and physical properties of the products, the environmental effect of the products and possible recommendations for future research was presented in the review.

The shortage of basic health institutions created havoc in deprived sub-regions, which shattered the health structure of common men. There could be many reasons behind, but the most prominent could be the unavailability of health institutions, according to local standards and sub-regional demographic characteristics. Therefore, the goal of this research is to investigate the health and population features of the study area and to determine the existing and futuristic shortage of basic health institutions, according to local standards of the country. To comply with study objectives, the data were collected through field visits, interviews with the officials and with the help of available documents, i.e., district census report. The aims of the study were achieved and it was found that the health sector of the study area was not in its satisfactory condition. The findings of this study may provide a vision to the policy makers in a sense that they could pay their attention to the shaky condition of the health sector, especially in backward sub-regions of the country.

It is caused by repetitive traffic load at high temperature. Rutting of these mixes can be predicted by laboratory creep test. The purpose of this paper is to look at some aspects of the effects of fine aggregate physical, chemical and mechanical properties on the creep behavior of HMA. Four types of sand (quarry, river, mining and marine sand) with two conventional binders (PEN 50/60 & 80/100) and four polymer modified bitumen (PM1_76 & PM1_82 and PM2_76 & PM2_82) were studied on hot mix asphalt creep resistance. According to the dynamic creep test results mixtures prepared using fine aggregate that has more angularity, rougher, high shear strength and high percentage of Al 2 O 3 presented highest resistance to creep deformation. Also polymer modified mixtures give the best result compared with conventional mix.
