ABSTRACT The protonation equilibria of L-glutamic acid (Glu) and L-histidine (His) were studied p... more ABSTRACT The protonation equilibria of L-glutamic acid (Glu) and L-histidine (His) were studied pH-metrically in varying concentrations (0-60% v/v) of dioxan-water mixtures maintaining an ionic strength of 0.16 mol dm–3 at 303 K. The protonation constants were calculated with the computer program MINIQUAD75. The precession and accuracy of the protonation constants are assessed based on statistical parameters and residual analysis. The variation in the protonation constants with dielectric constant of the medium is attributed to the electrostatic and non-electrostatic forces. Distribution of species, protonation equilibria and effect of influential parameters on the protonation constants are presented.
The survey of literature revealed that very few solutions are available for bending of anisotropi... more The survey of literature revealed that very few solutions are available for bending of anisotropic plates containing holes. In this paper, a general solution is given for bending of symmetric laminates with holes based on the formulations of Lekhnitskii and Savin that considers any shape of hole in symmetric laminates subjected to remotely applied bending or twisting moments. The results obtained are in good agreement with those in the available literature. Moments around circular, elliptical, triangular, square, rectangular and several irregular shaped holes in cross-ply and angle ply symmetric laminates are obtained. The study on stacking sequence revealed that the moments around the hole will decrease for laminates with large number of ply groups and vice versa. The results also revealed that the magnitude of moments and symmetry of distribution depend on the combined effect of all the parameters, viz., hole geometry, loading, Young’s moduli and Poisson’s ratios of the material and flexural moduli of the laminates.

ABSTRACT Studies are made on the viscoelastic fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics over a... more ABSTRACT Studies are made on the viscoelastic fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics over a stretching sheet with frictional heating and internal heat generation or absorption. The heat transfer analysis has been carried out for the cases of prescribed surface temperature (PST) and prescribed surface heat flux (PHF). The momentum equation is decoupled from the energy equation for the present incompressible boundary layer flow problem with constant physical parameters. Exact solution for the velocity field and the skin-friction are obtained. Also, the solutions for the temperature and heat transfer characteristics are obtained in terms of Kummer’s function. The work due to deformation in energy equation, which is essential while formulating the viscoelastic boundary layer flow problems, is considered. This paper examines the effect of viscoelastic parameter, Eckert number, Prandtl number and non-uniform heat source/sink parameter on temperature distribution, wall temperature gradient for PST-case and wall temperature for PHF-case.
