Le leggi geometriche con cui vengono realizzate le variazioni della curvatura e della sopraelevaz... more Le leggi geometriche con cui vengono realizzate le variazioni della curvatura e della sopraelevazione lungo i raccordi di transizione nelle curve dei tracciati ferroviari hanno una influenza diretta non solo sulle azioni trasmesse dal treno al binario ma anche sul comfort percepito dagli utenti. La legge di variazione oggi maggiormente adottata è quella lineare che determina, in planimetria, le note curve di transizione clotoidica e polinomiale cubica. Non mancano però numerosi altri esempi di leggi adottate in altri Paesi, definite per soddisfare condizioni di esercizio imposte anche dalle caratteristiche dinamiche del materiale rotabile. Nel presente studio sono state analizzate diverse leggi di variazione della curvatura e della sopraelevazione, valutando, mediante semplici modelli dinamici, le caratteristiche di comfort conseguenti. In particolare sono stati considerati quei raccordi di sopraelevazione che prevedono la realizzazione dello sghembo variando contemporaneamente, ma in segno opposto, la quota di entrambe le rotaie e non solo la quota della rotaia esterna, come prevede la tecnica ormai consolidata. L'adozione di tale soluzione per i raccordi di transizione permette, in particolari situazioni di esercizio, di ottimizzare il moto del veicolo al fine di migliorare le condizioni di comfort dei passeggeri.
SaferBraIn (an EC-funded project within the FP7) aims at increasing the level of safety of the ro... more SaferBraIn (an EC-funded project within the FP7) aims at increasing the level of safety of the road transport systems, focussing on Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) in India and Brazil. A Decision Support System (GIS-based application) is developed to select safety measures to reduce risk of accidents of VRUs, realize corrective and preventive analyses and road safety audits. The "corrective module" relies with analyses of VRUs accident data, identification of causes of accidents, possible countermeasures basing on Cost-Benefit and Cost-Effectiveness Analyses and monitoring of results. The "preventive module" realises road safety inspections and audits with a special focus on VRUs.

So it is very important to know road alignments geometry. Road centreline data for the geometry definition can be generally collected from existing maps or by static measurements (traditional surveys) or by dynamic measurements (GPS receiver mounted on a car). The procedure to define the road geometry, independently from the survey technique and the data type, must be implemented considering the precision level necessary to road applications. This study tries to define intrinsic limits of this integrated data measurement and processing procedure, with the aim to define the reliability of road alignment geometry according to the final employing of road geometry recognition.

During the mission of an airplane, these phases cover a very small percentage of time: both take-off and landing last just 1% of the whole flight but, according to available statistical studies, a high proportion of accidents is concentrated in these phases. Accidents occurring in these phases of flight involve not only passengers and crew of the flight but also a vast territory around airports with a large number of residents that, in some cases, have paid a high toll in terms of lives.

This article deals with the study conducted within a collaboration between "Sapienza" University of Rome and ENAC for the detection of a standard individual risk calculation method for the definition of Public Safety Zones around airports. The article also describes the regulation that ENAC has issued for the establishment of the protection measures of the surroundings in terms of land use planning.
