The last decade has seen a growing interest in online networks as a formal and informal schema for transferring and generating knowledge within product development. These networks are rooted in the nature of knowledge creation as a socially embedded process. Collaborative technologies have been widely accepted and adopted as platforms facilitating innovation in the interactions of contemporary networks, and this paper seeks to develop an evaluation schema and employ it to examine how such interaction is facilitated through the medium of Web 2.0 technologies in an engineering network. The contribution of this research to theory and innovation technology practice will be to further the understanding of the impact of Web 2.0 technologies on engineering innovation networks.

The research will focus on the application of internet technologies to enable a more effective use of the operational resources of the private care service provider. This paper also describes the benefits of using a web-enabled prototype in terms of achieving the transparency of information relating to care worker availability thus achieving a fast acceptance of the referred clients. A description of the redesigned business processes of the company to enable inclusive of working with the local authorities is also included here. This is essential to maximise value for money, improve competitiveness as well as client care quality. The core business operations supported by the solution are scheduling of care workers, automatic generation of care worker schedules, payment of care workers and the invoicing of the local authority process.

In particular, it discusses the operational aspects of digital clustering with a unique focus on e-clustered procurement. It is based on the case study of an e-cluster in the UK food industry. The study indicated that Web 2.0 technologies can facilitate participation and enhance connectivity within in digitally enabled business clusters. It also indicated that significant e-procurement gains can be made by some e-cluster members, although issues relating to critical mass of membership, cultural inhibitors and selection of suitable products and services for e-procurement need to be addressed.

There is an emphasis on the structured approach used when developing the portal prototype, which incorporated a business process automation component with a view of meeting the e-government agenda. This paper reviews current systems used in the public sector and proposes the development of an e-government system supporting an integrated environment. The proposed system leverages on the internet to provide portable systems based on data transparency and process integration through portal technologies.

Despite the sheer scale and complexities of the public healthcare sector, the Government's solutions are all too often packaged as "collaborate more", "standardise products" and "leverage spend". Unfortunately, these over simplistic solutions take a myopic view of market drivers, conflate spend with potential savings and fail to deliver value. Many contracts have already been commercially optimised yet the funding crisis continues to deepen. New value-based procurement approaches are needed to drive longer-term innovation and cost reduction and to move debates from efficiencies to embrace effectiveness in integrated supply chains. In this research, we adopt the resource-based view (RBV) as a lens to explore the extent to which NHS resources support the strategic adoption of value-based approaches. An empirical case study on a regional cluster of six NHS Trusts in England, confirms the dominance of narrow price-based approaches that create barriers to moving towards longer-term, valuebased procurement. The antecedent roots of price-based approaches are unpicked through a hermeneutic analysis of recent Government commissioned reports to show how these have set the tone, culture and priorities for healthcare procurement in the UK. The analysis provides explanatory power to the case study by illustrating how Government reports have led to, and legitimised the dominance of price-based approaches and caused relational and resource-based barriers to adopting value-based procurement, despite stakeholder enthusiasm. The findings provide unique insights into why public procurement has struggled to reach beyond its traditional cost orientated scope. We contribute to an extended consideration of the RBV in public organisations through identifying the role of the policy environment in determining and legitimatising an organisation's strategic direction.

The aim of this research was to analyze the organisational motives and organisational structure that influences ad hoc behaviors and practices and explored the factors facilitating or impeding the practice. The methodology comprised both quantitative and qualitative data collection through a global web-based questionnaire survey and face-to-face semi-structured interviews. The study found that there are links between ad hoc, flexibility and the decision making process that influence organisational performance both positively and negatively. Flexibility was also found to be a key tool in leadership traits. The findings also indicate that successful organisations are efficient in management processes, implementing leadership and resource training programmes, have clear vision and are climbing the maturity ladder. Furthermore the results influenced the development of an agile, flexible decision making buffer model.

In today’s digital era not all firms using are ICT. It would be interesting to know the difference in innovation performance between companies with and without ICT usage. Data from the last wave of the Enterprise Survey for Indonesia 2015 was analyzed using descriptive statistics and a test of differences using the Chi-Square test. The region of focus for this paper is the Jakarta Metropolitan Area. Jakarta is the current capital city of Indonesia and the second most populous metropolitan area after the Tokyo urban area. The analysis shows that significant differences were observed in both product and process innovations. This study can be beneficial for understanding the role of ICT in firm innovation, especially for firms in metropolitan areas and emerging economies.

Firms that develop mechanisms to encourage conversation between individuals and teams to take place, particularly in today's post job security economic climate, can witness performance improvement at the individual and team level, and thence to the overall performance of the organization. This paper reports on performance improvement work that is taking place with the case study company, a post-lean organization, in order to develop its capacity for team and organizational learning and improve its performance in the global marketplace.

Integration of sustainability elements into firms’ innovation activities, known as sustainability... more Integration of sustainability elements into firms’ innovation activities, known as sustainability-oriented innovation (SOI), has received widespread attention both academically and practically, especially over the last decade [1]–[3]. Yet the results of recent systematic reviews suggest that the study of SOI centres on developed economies, with emerging economies lagging far behind, and Indonesia - which is included in major emerging economies within the BRIICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, Indonesia, China, South Africa) – has not been discussed at all. We need, therefore, to examine this research area in this specific setting. Reflecting on nine semi-structured qualitative interviews with business owners and senior managers in Indonesia, this paper reveals how participants consider this research area, identifies themes emerging related to innovation and sustainability, and provides a preliminary analysis of how firms in Indonesia are approaching SOI.

There is a growing focus on manufacturing as having the potential to generate economic wealth alongside creating high-quality and highly skilled jobs. The contemporary transformations of manufacturing provide the context of this study, where the transforming of a traditional industry to a trending organisational entity affects multi-societal contextual factors. This study helps advance the departure of manufacturing organisations from pure “productivism” with the stern performance metrics and operational lean or agile approaches by adding contextualisation to the human centric perspectives of Organisational Citizenship Behaviour and discretionary effort. Previous work has highlighted that the relationship between...

Although initially introduced in Europe and the US, in the subsequent development, attention to RRI grows in another context. The aim of this paper is to provide a preliminary review of the current status of responsible research and innovation (RRI) research, focusing on emerging economy's context. Systematic review method is used for this purpose. The current research on RRI in emerging economies has emerged since 2013, involving multidisciplinary researchers and has been published in journals from various disciplines. The most discussed dimension is 'inclusion' through public engagement in different phase of research and innovation. The dimension of 'anticipation' that plays an important role in the early phase of research and innovation has not been much discussed compared to other dimensions.
