Th... more Judaism is the oldest religion of the western world and has influenced Christianity and Islam. The Hebrews were the ancestors of the Jewish people. The Hebrews were different from others of their time because the Hebrews were monotheistic; they believed in only one God. The Hebrews believed they had a special relationship with their God and that they were God's chosen people. The Hebrews trace their ancestry to Abraham. Hebraic tradition says that Abraham left his home in the Mesopotamian city of Ur about 2200bc. Abraham's grandson, Jacob, established a nation called Israel on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. About 1300BCE, many Hebrews moved to Egypt to escape a famine. A famine is a great hunger. At first, the Hebrews were treated well in Egypt, but in time the Hebrews were enslaved by the Egyptians. According to Hebraic tradition, God sent ten deadly plagues to Egypt when the Egyptians would not release the Hebrew slaves. When the Hebrews did escape, tradition states that Moses, the leader of the Hebrews, parted the Red Sea for just enough time to allow the Hebrews to pass. Once the Hebrews reached the other side of the Red Sea, tradition states that the waters returned and the Egyptian army drowned. After their escape across the Red Sea about 1250BCE, God revealed Ten Commandments to Moses. The Ten Commandments formed the basis of Mosaic Law and are the model for both Jewish and Christian moral thought. The Hebrews returned to Israel, but they were conquered by Babylon in 586BC and were exiled, or forced from their home. The Hebrews were able to return to Israel, but the Roman conquered Israel and in 66BC, the Romans forced the Hebrews into exile once again. The Hebrews

When Christians talk and write about the nature of God they are essentially trying to answer this question. Christians believe there is only one God, this belief in one God is known as monotheism, so Christianity is a monotheistic religion. Christians use a variety of words to describe the nature of God. ▶ omnipotent (all powerful) ▶ omnipresent (everywhere) ▶ omniscient (all knowing) ▶ omnibenevolent (all loving) ▶ transcendent (outside of this world). Christians also believe that God is timeless and eternal. All of these ideas are found in the Christian Bible, which is made up of the Old and New Testaments believed to be part of God's revelation to humanity. God is the creator and the giver of all life: 'In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth.' Genesis 1:1 All Christians believe that God created everything and is still involved with the world in a mysterious way. In the Genesis text God is clearly seen as the creator of the universe and all that it contains. Humankind is made in a special way in the image of God. 'Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness. . .' Genesis 1:26 This spiritual likeness enables all human beings to have some understanding of God's nature. Christians believe all we know about God is through God showing or revealing himself to people and this process is known as 'revelation'.

It sets out circumstances under which curbs on competition would be legitimate. It shows how Jewish law affords a safety net where one side in the vendor–consumer relationship does not have proper knowledge, limits the profit margin on basic commodities and forbids predatory pricing that is destructive of competitors.

Two major suggestions are advanced that will facilitate the quest for viable theory of speech communication: First; research should begin to focus on relevant communication behaviors rather than merely using them as convenient contexts to test selected theories. Second, researchers should be required to report the degree of association between the selected independent variables and the dependent communication behaviors. Unless these suggestions are adopted, it is the authors' contention that the quest for viable theories will be hindered. The incorporation of the suggestions will assist the field to (1) compare theories in terms of their ability to predict communication behaviors, and (2) construct viable theories of communication behavior.

One hundred and ninety-one cats with HD were given 7 mg/kg CsA daily for at least 4 weeks. Depending on clinical response, the dosing frequency was tapered from daily to EOD over the next 4 weeks and further to TW for an additional 4 weeks. Safety was evaluated through physical examinations, clinical pathology and the monitoring of adverse events (AEs). The majority of cats were able to have their dose of CsA tapered to either EOD (15.5%) or TW (62.9%) according to the clinical response. Observed AEs were most frequently mild and self-limiting vomiting and diarrhea. A higher percentage of AEs occurred with daily administration (73%) compared with other dosing regimens (27%). Following 4 weeks of daily dosing at 7 mg/kg, CsA ...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether anti-inflammatory doses of cyclosporine activate Toxoplasma gondii ... more OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether anti-inflammatory doses of cyclosporine activate Toxoplasma gondii in chronically infected cats or potentiate infection in cats exposed for the first time. ANIMALS 30 T gondii-negative cats. PROCEDURES Cats were assigned to 1 of 3 groups (10 cats/group). Group 1 (control) cats were administered a placebo for 126 days; group 2 cats were administered a placebo for 84 days, followed by cyclosporine at 7.5 mg/kg/d, PO, for 42 days; and group 3 cats were administered cyclosporine at 7.5 mg/kg/d, PO, for 126 days. Cats were orally inoculated with T gondii on day 42. Results for fecal flotations, PCR assays, and histologic examinations and IgM and IgG titers were analyzed. Cyclosporine concentrations were measured on selected days. RESULTS All cats were infected by T gondii and developed signs of self-limiting gastrointestinal tract infection. Group 3 had the highest incidence and severity of CNS and pulmonary histopathologic findings typical of toxoplasmosis....

The study was a multicenter, prospective, randomized, blinded, and parallel group clinical trial. A total of 249 client-owned cats scheduled for forelimb onychectomy plus either ovariohysterectomy or castration surgeries were included. All cats received butorphanol prior to anesthesia and forelimb four-point regional nerve blocks with bupivacaine after induction of general anesthesia. Cats were randomized to receive daily oral tablet robenacoxib, at a mean (range) dosage of 1.84 (1.03-2.40) mg/kg (n = 167), or placebo (n = 82), once prior to surgery and for two days postoperatively. Significantly (P < 0.05) fewer robenacoxib cats received additional analgesia rescue therapy (16.5%) than placebo cats (46.3%). Pain elicited on palpation of the soft tissue incision site, behavior following social interaction, and posture assessed during the first 8 hours after extubat...

The immunosuppressant effect of ciclosporin on the ability of cats to mount an immune response following vaccination was determined. Thirty-two healthy, immunocompetent adult cats (16 cats/group) were treated with either ciclosporin for 56 days at a dose of 24 mg/kg once daily or sham dosed. Prior to treatment, cats had an adequate antibody response to primary vaccination against feline calicivirus (FCV), feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1), feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and rabies. Booster vaccination or novel vaccination with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) was administered 28 days after initiation of treatment with ciclosporin. There were no differences between the ciclosporin-treated and control cats for FCV and FPV antibody titers following booster vaccination. There were delays/reductions in ...

This study's aim was to better understand doctors' attentiveness to patients'/families' spiritual/religious concerns and the contributing factors for this in the Northwest USA as well as doctor's attitudes about referrals to chaplains. Study participants included 108 pediatricians and oncologists who completed an online self-report questionnaire regarding their beliefs about the health relevance of patients' spirituality/religion and their attentiveness to this.…

Scant reports are available defining the role of VEGF in active and inactive tubercular meningitis (TBM) with no studies on brain tuberculoma. We quantified VEGF levels by enzyme linked immunoassay (ELISA) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum in 20 cases each with active and inactive TBM as well as 22 cases of intraparenchymal tuberculoma. VEGF expression and microvessel angiogenesis quantification was done in 7 cases where tuberculomas were excised. Significantly increased VEGF levels in CSF were found in active TBM cases (106.0 AE 50.0 pg/ml) compared to inactive TBM cases (14.7 AE 10.0 pg/ml) (p < 0.001). Mean serum VEGF levels in active TBM, inactive TBM and tuberculoma were 694.93 AE 820.66 pg/ml, 499.61 AE 238.33 pg/ml and 541.0 AE 389.0 pg/ml, respectively. Immunohistochemical staining of excised tuberculoma demonstrated high expression of VEGF in granulomatous areas with intense positivity in inflammatory mononuclear cells, Langhan's giant cells as well as reactive astrocytes and fibrocytes. A strong positive correlation was observed between microvessel density and VEGF expression. Serial decrease in serum VEGF levels was observed with increasing duration of therapy in tuberculoma. We conclude that increased CSF and serum VEGF levels are a measure of activity of the disease in neurotuberculosis and its gradual decrease over a period of time is probably an indicator of therapeutic response.
