The largest part of total fish production comes from the floating net cages (“Keramba Jaring Apung”-KJA) Cirata Dam. Recently, the condition of Cirata Dam is facing to degradation of its environment quality. Therefore, freshwater ponds can become an alternative development. This study was aimed to identify suitable sites for freshwater ponds. Land suitability was analyzed using Geographic Information System (GIS) and Multi-criteria Evaluation (MCE) methods. The analysis result shows that the suitable land for freshwater ponds was 86,510.69 ha hectare or 23.89% of the total region. Of such suitable land, the available land for freshwater ponds was 74,064.24 ha (20.46%), while not available land was 12,446.45 ha (3.44%). The resuts indicate that ponds development is still possible to be done in Cianjur regency.

The use of minapadi system might increase land productivity of paddy field because farmers can harvest paddy as well as fish. Fish farming through minapadi system in Cianjur Regency is generally done in two periods, which is during the period of transisition and intercropping with paddy. Thus, in one farmingcycle, minapadi system can give two times of fish harvests and one times of paddy harvest. Information about farming location is an important factor in fishing development. Information and data about land potency will provide guidance to a suitable location. This study aimed to identify suitable sites for minapadi and to formulate a direction for aquaculture development in Cianjur Regency, West Java Province. Land suitability for minapadi system in this research is built based on land suitability for paddy field and availability of irrigation. Data and information on potential region was resulted by land suitability analysis and Geographic Information System (GIS). The direction for aquaculture development was resulted by A’WOT analysis, a combination between AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) analysis and SWOT (Strength – Weakness – Opportunity – Threat) analysis. The analysis result shows that the suitable land for minapadi was 13,004 hectares or just around 3.59% of the total region. Of such suitable land, the suitable and available land was 9,553 ha (2.64%) and the suitable but not available land was 3,451 ha (0.95%). The resuts is expected to become a consideration for more detailed planning of fishery development in Cianjur regency.
