These bacteria can be found in the gut of both warm and cold-blooded organisms. Fecal coliform is a subset of this group. They have been characterized to grow at elevated temperatures and specifically associated with the fecal material of warm-blooded animals. Gilgit River was evaluated using coliforms (total coliform and fecal coliform) as indicators, in relation with physicochemical parameters such as biological oxygen demand (BOD), conductivity, dissolved oxygen (DO), nitrate, ph, phosphate, salinity, temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS) and total suspended solids (TSS). Monthly sampling was conducted from November 2011 to April 2012 in the upstream, midstream and downstream sections of the river. Regular consumption of fruits, vegetables and their byproducts lessen the chances of many health ... more Regular consumption of fruits, vegetables and their byproducts lessen the chances of many health hazardous ailments due to existence of numerous valuable nutrients. To evaluate some physcio-chemical characteristics of three pomegranate varieties (sweet, sour and doom) juices from three different localities (Danyore, Nomal and Sakwar) of district Gilgit were collected. The parameters studied were pH, total soluble solids, reducing sugars, titratable acidity, flavonoids, carotenoids, anthocynins. The pH content found among the sweet cultivars varied from 2.99-3.9, anthocynins ranged from 294.99-295.33mgC3G, flavonoids differed from 232.21-234.83mgQC/g, reducing sugars fluctuated from 10.99-12.24%, carotenoids varied from 12.12-12.76 mg ß-carotene/g, TSS ranged from15.9-17.3 brixo and titratable acidity fluctuated from 0.362-0.403%. Although Oligoenoplus species аre known to be mostly confined to the Oriental Region, only two co... more Although Oligoenoplus species аre known to be mostly confined to the Oriental Region, only two congeners appear to currently occur in China. One of them, from Sichuan, is new: Oligoenoplus gonggashanus sp. n. It somewhat resembles the second Chinese congener, O. modicus Holzschuh, 2011, described recently from Henan, as well as O. rosti (Pic, 1911), widespread in Japan and the Kurile Islands, but differs securely from both latter taxa by a whole number of characters. The sole species until rather recently believed to represent Oligoenoplus in China (Catalogue …, 2010) actually belongs to a different genus, thus becoming Anaglyptus annulicornis (Pic, 1933), comb. n. Its type locality is precised. Some characters in Oligoenoplus species, including body size, are also discussed.

Organoleptic and physico-chemical analysis was undertaken to analyze three apple varieties common... more Organoleptic and physico-chemical analysis was undertaken to analyze three apple varieties commonly found in the local market of district Gilgit, Pakistan. Different parameters investigated include moisture content, ash content, total soluble solids, pH value, acidity, reducing sugar, total sugar, mineral elements etc. Research revealed that moisture content in Golden Delicious-GD (87.71%) is higher than Five Star-FS (78.99%) and Nazak Badan-NB (84.81%). Ash content found 0.29% (GD), 2.89% (FS) and 0.35% (NB). Similarly, total soluble solids were 10.2 (GD), 11.4 (FS) and 9.5 (NB). Moreover, fat content in GD (1.24%), FS (2.13%) and 1.87% (NB). pH value recorded was 3.69 in GD, 3.89 in FS and 3.44 in NB. Acidity, in GD (0.285%), 0.19% (FS) and 0.15% (NB). Mean valves of reducing sugar in in GD, FS and NB were (10.70%, 15.13%, 12.53%) respectively. Furthermore, total sugar in GD (10.70%), FS (15.13%) and NB (12.53%).The chemical values of fruits showed a higher content of mineral elements and also a good quality for the products obtained from the local market of district Gilgit. Based on the results research recommends for Jam, Juice and pulp production without any health risk.

A field experiment was conducted to evaluate growth, yield and quality parameters of four tomato ... more A field experiment was conducted to evaluate growth, yield and quality parameters of four tomato cultivars (Roma, Riogrand, Fmx and Savera) in Bagrote valley Gilgit-Baltistan. The results obtained showed significantly difference (p<0.05) between the cultivar as maximum plant height (73.0cm), maximum number of branches (6.46), longest leaf length (10.26cm) and maximum number of days for flowering was observed in cultivar Roma. While lowest plant height (48.66cm), shortest leaf length (7.47cm) and minimum number of days (64.33) for fruit set was observed in cultivar Riogrand. However cultivar Savera showed intermediate behavior for different growth characteristics among the other cultivars. Roma showed maximum yield (29.4t ha) followed by Fmx and Savera (25.8 t ha and 24.21 t ha), whereas the minimum yield (22.5 t ha) was found in Riogrand. Quality parameters i.e. pH, acidity, TSS and ascorbic acid were also found significantly different at p<0.05 among all four cultivars. Roma ...
