landscape b... more The morphometric analysis of the drainage basin provides no only a description of the landscape but also serve as a powerful means of comparing the forms and processes of drainage basin. In the present study, morphometric analysis of the Rishi Khola basin and its sub basins has been carried out using data collected from toposheet and also by computing it through GIS techniques. The morphometric parameters considered for analysis includes the linear, areal and relief aspect of the basin. The Rishi Khola covers an area of th 260.498 sq km and it is a 5 order drainage basin. The whole RishiKhola basin consists of 3 sub basins such as Rishi Khola itself,Mandam Khola and an Relli khola basin. The bifurcation ratio (R ) varies b between 3.0 and 5.0 indicating geology is homogenous and no such structural disturbances prevail. The basin has low drainage density of 0.95 2 km/km and the basin is more or less circular in shape. These studies are useful for understanding the hydrological, geological and geomorphological characteristics of the basin.

In the present study, lithological analysis on a part of Rishi Khola basin has been carried out using data collected from literature survey, field study, and also by computing it through GIS techniques. There are three types of rock formations, such as Garubathan (297.42034 Sq.km), Rayeng(19.29 Sq.Km), Rangli Schist(29.18 Sq.Km).In Rishi Khola basin area, we observed huge variation of dip, strike, Slope and many folds, faults, joints. They influence the valley Shape, landforms and different geomorphic processes. These studies are helpful in understanding Hydrological, Geomorphological and Lithological characteristics of this basin area.

This paper focuses on the initiatives taken by Panihati Municipality in order to develop the wards under its governance and to enhance better standard of living and improve social wellbeing of the people residing here.
