(R)-2-haloacid + H₂O $\rightleftharpoons$ (S)-2-hydroxyacid + halide

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are (R)-2-haloacid and H₂O, whereas its two products are (S)-2-hydroxyacid and halide.
