- 13 February – Belgium becomes the first country to legalise euthanasia without any age limits.[1][2]

- 4 April – 20 people are injured as protesters from across Europe clash with police in Brussels at a demonstration against high unemployment.[3]

- 24 May - Jewish Museum of Belgium shooting kills three and seriously injures one in Brussels.[4][5]
- 25 May - Elections are held for the regional parliaments, the federal parliament and the European Parliament.
