2016 mid-year rugby union internationals
The 2016 mid-year rugby union internationals (also known as the Summer Internationals in the Northern Hemisphere) refer to international rugby union matches that are mostly played in the Southern Hemisphere during the June International Window.
Thee matches are part of World Rugby's Global rugby calendar (2012–19) that includes test matches between the touring Northern Hemisphere nations and the home Southern Hemisphere nations, whilst some of the touring teams will play mid-week matches against provincial or regional sides. In addition to this, the Global calendar gives Tier 2 nations the opportunity to host Tier 1 nations outside the November International Window, increasing competitiveness from the Tier 2 sides.
All Six Nations teams are in action, with the grand slam champions England playing a three-test series against The Rugby Championship reigning champions Australia. South Africa will host a three-test series against Ireland, meanwhile Wales will tour New Zealand, playing a three-test series against the world champions, the All Blacks, and playing a mid-week match against the Chiefs. In addition this, Wales will also travel to London, where they will play England in a one-off test match before traveling to New Zealand. Argentina will host Italy, before playing a two-test series against France, whilst Italy will continue their tour of the Americas in North America, playing Canada and the United States.
2019 Rugby World Cup hosts Japan, will be looking to improve on their 2015 Rugby World Cup display when they host Scotland for two-test series, whilst also playing away to Canada in a first ever international rugby union test match at BC Place. Russia will tour North America, playing a test against both Canada and the United States, in what will be Russia's first visit to North America since 2010.
History will be made when Georgia travel to the Pacific Islanders, where Fiji, Samoa and Tonga will all host the Lelos for the first ever time - though the Tonga fixture will be played at a neutral venue in Fiji. Furthermore, Brazil will host Kenya in what will be the fist time Brazil has hosted an African nation. Like in 2015, Uruguay will host the Fiji Warriors a two-match series, whilst English development team, England Saxons, will play a two-match series against South Africa's A team.
For Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, the matches will act as warm-ups ahead of the 2016 Rugby Championship.
