Alfred Blomfield

Alfred Blomfield^[1] (1833–1894)^[2] was an Anglican bishop^[3] in the last decades of the 19th century.

Alfred was the son of Charles Blomfield, sometime Bishop of London^[4] and brother of the architect Arthur Blomfield. He was educated at Harrow and Balliol before being awarded a Fellowship at All Souls. From 1857 he was a Curate at Kidderminster, then its Vicar. After this he held further incumbencies in Stepney and Barking, was Archdeacon of Essex (1878–1882)^[5] before a 12-year spell as Bishop of Colchester and Archdeacon of Colchester from 1882^[6] until 1894.
