Andrew Conboy (born May 16, 1988) is an American former professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL.
Playing career
Conboy played junior hockey with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the North American Hockey League.[1]
Conboy was drafted in the 5th round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.
Conboy chose to join Michigan State University for the 2008-09 season instead of turning pro, however he was suspended for the remainder of the season, for a total of 21 games, along with teammate Corey Tropp, after attacking University of Michigan player Steven Kampfer. Following the suspension, Conboy chose to pull out of school and turned pro by signing with Montreal's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs. The AHL honoured the NCAA's suspension, and suspended Conboy for three AHL games.
On March 2, 2009 Conboy signed a three year contract with the Montreal Canadiens,[2] though spent the entirety of his contract with Hamilton.
On September 19, 2012 Conboy signed as a free agent with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL.[3] On December 29, 2012 he was traded from Trenton to the Cincinnati Cyclones in a three team trade with the Wheeling Nailers.[4]
On July 11, 2013 Conboy signed with the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) in the United Kingdom.[5] After only 10 games and accruing 110 penalty minutes his contract was terminated by the team November 12, 2013 after being suspended for his third time in the season.[6] He then played out the season with the St. Charles Chill and the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.
On July 18, 2014, Conboy opted to remain in the ECHL, signing a one-year deal with the Elmira Jackals.[7] In January 2015, he was suspended by the ECHL for 20 games, and, subsequently, was dismissed by the Jackals.
Family
Tim Conboy, his older brother, is also a professional ice hockey player.
