Betty Corday, mother of Ken Corday, had previously been a Broadway stage actress, starring in "one flop after another" before marrying her husband, a former lawyer and a then-recent migrant from Alberta, Canada. They were married from 1942 until his death in 1966.

She semi-retired in 1985, turning control over to her son, Ken. She kept the title of executive producer until her death in November 1987.
