Bourne Town Football Club is an English football team based in Bourne, England, currently playing in the United Counties Football League Division One.

History

They were established in 1883 and joined the United Counties Football League in 1947, where they have been champions on three occasions – in 1969–70, 1971–72 and 1990–91. In the 1989–90 season, the Wakes reached the 4th round of the FA Vase.

Former players who have progressed to play in the Football League include Peter Grummitt and Shaun Cunnington.[1]

In March 2007, the local press reported that Club Chairman Terry Bates was to step down after many years of service to the club,[2] and he was succeeded by Andy Stubley as chairman and Jo Sunner as vice chairman at the start of the 2007–08 season. First-team manager Glenn Notley resigned on 4 February 2008 over a major disagreement with the management committee,[3] and was replaced by Darren Munton, who was set to continue until the end of that season.[4] However, during March 2008, Chairman Andy Stubley announced that Neil Thorpe was to take over as team manager with immediate effect, and that his assistants would be ex-Lincoln City and Boston United player Mark Cook and John Chand.[5]

In May 2008, the club announced the start of a scheme to train young players full-time in conjunction with a local college.[6]

Ground

The club plays its home fixtures at Abbey Lawn, Bourne, which is located off Abbey Road.
