Brad Winter is an American politician from the state of New Mexico. He serves as the Secretary of State of New Mexico and as a member of the Albuquerque City Council.[1]
Winter worked as a teacher and principal in Albuquerque Public Schools (APS). He was elected to the Albuquerque City Council, and became the chief operating officer of APS, resigning in 2014. Three months later, he was appointed as the interim Superintendent of APS.[2] He was sworn in as Secretary of State on December 15, 2015, following the resignation of Dianna Duran. Winter has indicated that he will not resign his City Council seat, and will not run for the remainder of Duran's term in the upcoming special election.[3] Some have argued this breaks state law which requires the Secretary of State and all executive officers to reside in Santa Fe.[4]
