Chaplin Cinema was the oldest single screen movie theatre in Kolkata. It was located in 5/1 Chowringhee Place. In 1907 Jamshedji Framji Madan opened this cinema in India.[1][2][3]

History
In 1907 Jamshedji Framji Madan established Chaplin Cinema, at that time its name was Elphinstone Picture Palace.[3][4] Later it was renovated and converted to Chaplin Cinema, a full-fledged movie theatre. The date of this conversion is unknown.[5] In this theatre father of Uttam Kumar used to run the projector.[6] The theatre has been demolished.

This site occupied by the Chaplin Cinema, it has been demolished by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. December 2013
