Claire D. Cronin is State Representative in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Cronin represents the 11th Plymouth district, consisting of Ward 1, Ward 3: Precinct D, Ward 7: Precincts C, and D in Brockton; Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of Easton. She is an Easton resident and a member of the Democratic Party.

Early life

Cronin graduated from Brockton High School in 1978[1] and attended Stonehill College in Easton and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science in 1982. She went on to earn a Juris Doctorate degree from Suffolk University in 1985.[2]

Cronin has maintained a law practice in Brockton. She has also served on the board of the Old Colony YMCA, a member of the Foundation for Excellence in Education in Easton. She was formerly a member of the Brockton Democratic City Committee, and currently serves on the Easton Democratic Town Committee and Democratic State Committee.[2]

Election and state representative

In 2012 long time State Representative Geraldine Creedon announced her plans to retire from public office. On February 14, 2012, Cronin announced her candidacy for the newly redistricted seat.[1] She won a four-way Democratic primary with 33% of the vote, defeating Brockton Councilors-at Large Robert Sullivan and Jass Stewart, and Southeast Regional School Committee member Mark Linde.[3] In the general election, Cronin defeated Republican Dan Murphy.[4]

In the legislature, Cronin serves on the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, Joint Committee on the Judiciary, and the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs.[2]
