The Damara tern (Sternula balaenarum) is a species of tern in the family Sternidae.

It breeds in western South Africa, Namibia and Angola. Non-breeding birds migrate north reaching Benin, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Togo.

Its natural habitats are shallow seas, sandy shores, and coastal saline lagoons. It is threatened by habitat loss.
