Daniel Joseph Gamache (born November 20, 1990) is an American professional baseball player with the Indianapolis Indians in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 2015.
A Newport, Rhode Island native,[1] Gamache attended Bishop Hendricken High School and then Auburn University.[2] In his first year at Auburn, he slashed .383/.508/.638 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 47 at-bats. In 2010, he hit .365/.434/.582 with eight home runs and 37 RBI in 57 games (he also played for the Newport Gulls of the New England Collegiate Baseball League that summer) and in 2011, he hit .299/.414/.464 with five home runs and 29 RBI in 53 games. The Pirates took him as the first pick in the sixth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.[3]
In his first professional season, 2011, he hit .259 with one home run and 16 RBI in 26 games between the GCL Pirates and State College Spikes. In 2012, with the West Virginia Power, he hit .285 with 40 doubles and 70 runs scored in 125 games. He was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star that year.[4] He hit .258 with 34 doubles with the Bradenton Marauders in 2013 and in 2014, between the GCL Pirates, Jamestown Jammers and Altoona Curve, Gamache batted .272 in 46 games. He also hit .86 in 17 games for the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League.[5] In 2015, he hit .335/.377/.457 in 74 games for the Curve and .257/.300/.307 in 30 games in his first taste of Triple-A. As a whole, he hit .312/.355/.413 that season. He was an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star that year and he won the Eastern League home run derby.[6] He also played briefly for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo of the Mexican Pacific Winter League in the offseason. He began 2016 with Indianapolis.
He has played in major league spring training in 2014 and 2016.[7]
