Domingo de Salazar (1512 – December 4, 1594) was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as the first Bishop of Manila (1579-1584)[1] which was then a newly proclaimed territory of the Spanish Empire.
He was born in La Rioja, in the village of La Bastarda on the banks of the Ebro, Spain.[2] On February 6, 1579 he was selected by the King of Spain and confirmed by Pope Gregory XIII as the first Bishop of Manila.[1] He was installed in 1581.[1] He served as Bishop of Manila until his death on December 4, 1594.[1]
