Duke Kunshan University is a university organized as a collaboration between Duke University (located in Durham, North Carolina, United States), Wuhan University (Wuhan, Hubei, China), and the city of Kunshan, China.[1] The university has a 200-acre campus in Kunshan. On September 17, 2013, the Chinese Ministry of Education granted final approval.[2] First classes started on August 25, 2014, including programs in business, physics, and global health.[3]
The first chancellor of the new university is Liu Jingnan, formerly president of Wuhan University. Mary Brown Bullock, formerly president of Agnes Scott College, is the first executive vice chancellor.[4]
Duke first attempted to collaborate with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to build its Kunshan campus in 2010, but the Chinese university withdrew before reaching an agreement.[5][6]
