Elaine Smith (born 23 April 1962) is a Scottish-born actress who found fame on Australian television.

Career

Smith is best known for her role as Daphne Clarke in the soap opera Neighbours. She auditioned for a guest role in the show in 1984. However, her appearance, particularly her short hair, caught the attention of the casting director and she was cast as Daphne Lawrence, one of the show's original cast members. Smith continued in the role until 1988. Prior to this she had a small guest role in the soap Sons and Daughters as an air hostess in 1984.

Subsequent credits include: The Flying Doctors, State Coroner, Always Greener, Home and Away and All Saints in 2006. She returned to University to earn a degree in teaching, and is now a drama and primary school teacher.

Personal life

Smith is married to actor and writer, Jonathan Biggins. The couple met while performing in a Melbourne play together. Smith and Biggins have twin daughters, Charlotte Elisabeth and Imogen Rebecca born in February 2000.
