Guntur mandal is one of the 57 mandals in Guntur district of the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is under the administration of Guntur revenue division with its headquarters at Guntur,[3][4] The mandal is under the administration of Guntur revenue division and bounded by Medikonduru, Tadikonda, Pedakakani, Edlapadu, Prathipadu, Vatticherukuru and Chebrole mandals.[5]
Demographics
As of 2011[update] census, the mandal had a population of 779,289. The total population constitute, 389,582 males and 389,707 females —a sex ratio of 1000 females per 1000 males. 77,189 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 39,616 are boys and 37,573 are girls. The average literacy rate stands at 78.82% with 553,422 literates.[1] The mandal has unique characteristics like having largest urban area, highest population and population density and the most number of literates of all the mandals of the district.[2]
Governance
The mandal is also a part of the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region under the jurisdiction of APCRDA.[6] The mandal is under the control of a tahsildar and the present tahsildar is Tata Mohan Rao.[7]
Guntur mandal is shared by two assembly constituencies namely, Guntur East (Assembly constituency) and Guntur West (Assembly constituency). Both these constituencies are under Guntur (Lok Sabha constituency).[8]
Towns and villages
Guntur mandal consists of Guntur Municipal Corporation and its Urban agglomerations. The area of Guntur was expanded in 2012. Gram Panchayats of ten surrounding villages viz., Nallapadu (full), Pedapalakaluru (full), Ankireddipalem (Remaining part), Adavitakkellapadu (full), Gorantla (full), Pothuru (full), Chowdavaram (full), Etukuru (Remaining part), Budampadu (Remaining part) and Reddypalem (full) were de-notified and merged with Guntur Municipal Corporation.[9][10] Chinapalakaluru and Jonnalagadda are the villages in the mandal.[11][3]
