Hakmana (හක්මණ) is a town in the Matara District, Southern Province of Sri Lanka .Town located 12 miles north east from the major city of matara,located in the southern wet zone of Sri Lanka. Hakmana town has a special location in matara district which is easy to reach Matara ,Kamburupitiya, Beliatta,Tangalle ,Kirinda Puhulwella and walasmulla some of other towns in both Matara and Hambatota districts.As it located in hilly zone cinnamon,tea and rubber are some common crops in the area .According to past administrative data Hakmana, Kamburupitiya and other surrounding areas were called KANDABADA PATTUWA due to their location in southern hills of Sri Lanka.According to census most of Population represent sinhalease next Moors and the rest few tamils.During the colonial era Christianity was established there but today there are no significant sings of Christianity except the Matara/Methodist College, Hakmana which located near Hakmana town.Historical evidence of the area runs to the era of king Jeshta Thissa (Detuthissa) who had established a Palace, Buddhist shrines and lakes in the area.Verry old Raja Maha Vihara(Royal Temples) such as Kòngala Raja Maha Vihara ,Owagiri Raja maha Vihara etc... located in this area are some of the best historical evidence of the area. Schools Matara/Methodist College, Hakmana Matara/Abaya central college ,Kòngala Matara /Deyiyandara National College Sri Buddha Jayanthi Primary school, Hakmana Matara/Kòngala Primary school, Hakmana Jayawardane College ,Gangodagama Kanishta vidyalaya ,Lalpe Karathota primary school etc..
