Hello Games is a video game developer and publisher based in Guildford, England. The brand is known for the critically acclaimed Joe Danger series, and the upcoming No Man's Sky.

History

Hello Games was founded in February 2008[2] by former employees from other video game companies, such as Criterion Games, Electronic Arts, and Kuju Entertainment. At the 2010 Develop Awards, they won two awards: Best New Studio and Best Micro Studio.[3][4] In August 2010, they were listed by The Guardian in its Tech Media Invest list—a list of the 100 most innovative and creative companies of the previous 12 months.[5] At the 2011 Gamescom press event, they announced their second game, Joe Danger 2: The Movie.[6] Hello Games announced a new sci-fi adventure game titled No Man's Sky at the 2013 VGX award show.[7]

On Christmas Eve in 2013, the studio's offices were flooded after a nearby river broke its bank. They tweeted that "Everything in the office has pretty much been lost."[8]

It had been reported that No Man's Sky would be released on 21 June 2016 on PS4 and PC in Europe and 24 June in the UK. There are no announced plans for an Xbox One release. On 25 May 2016, less than one month before the release, gaming site Kotaku reported that the game had been delayed to a later date quoting GameStop as a source.[9] On 27 May 2016, official word went out from Hello Games' Sean Murray that "After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe August 10, and in the UK August 12."
