Joe McElveen
Joseph T. McElveen, Jr. has served as Mayor of Sumter, South Carolina since November, 2000.[1][2]
Born in Sumter, he graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in 1968. He later earned a law degree at the South Carolina, Law school in 1971.[2] He served in the US Air Force until 1977, and received an honourable discharge.[1] He served on the Sumter City council from 1984 to 1986 until he was elected in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1986 to 1996.[1]
Personal life
Mayor McElveen is married to Kathryn Watson McElveen since 1976, and they have two children together, named Thomas (1978) and Kate (1986).[1]
