Early years
Chioran was born Juan Bruno Ricardo Chioran on June 18, 1963 in Alberti, Argentina to Italian immigrants Bruno Chioran (b. 1928) and Alba Chioran. Bruno and Alba Chioran arrived in Alberti, Argentina in 1947, after the Second World War ended. Half of their extended family remained in Italy and the other half was in Canada. His Dad immigrated to Argentina with the intent of saving money home to his relatives. His father immigrated from Padua, Italy, and his mother was from the Venice region. After living his first 12 years in Alberti, Juan Chioran moved to Toronto with his parents in 1975, when the Dirty War began in Argentina.
He attended York University, before attending the University of Alberta. There, he graduated with a B.F.A. in Dramatic Arts.
He met his wife, Jacklyn Francis-Chioran, in 1995 at the Blyth Festival in Blyth, Ontario.
