Karl Buckel (12 June 1920 – 2 September 1997) was a highly decorated Hauptmann of the Reserves in the Wehrmacht during World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Karl Buckel was captured by French troops at the end of the war, but escaped soon after. He later joined the Bundeswehr, retiring in 1976 as an Oberstleutnant.
