Nick awakens in a squat den in an abandoned dilapidated church, to find his girlfriend Gloria with a knife stuck in her abdomen and eating a corpse. While fleeing, he is hit by a car and hospitalized. The doctor tells Madison and Travis that Nick's claims about the incident are heroin induced hallucinations, but Travis believes Nick after visiting the church himself. Alicia becomes more worried about Nick's chemical dependency and state of mind, desperate to return him to rehab. The next day, school closes early due to the high levels of absenteeism, rumors of an epidemic and rising chaos. Nick escapes from the hospital and meets with Calvin, hoping to learn if the drugs Calvin sold him were laced and caused him to hallucinate. Calvin tries to kill Nick to prevent him from exposing Calvin as a drug dealer or impugning the quality of his drugs. In the ensuing struggle, Calvin is mortally shot. After Travis and Madison pick Nick up, the zombified Calvin attacks them. Nick runs over Calvin repeatedly with Travis' truck, and the three watch in disbelief as the mutilated Calvin is still able to turn his head towards them.
2 | 2 | "So Close, Yet So Far" | Adam Davidson | Marco Ramirez | August 30, 2015 | 8.18[5] |
After the run-in with zombified Calvin, Nick, Madison, and Travis choose to flee to the desert, and they want Alicia, Liza, and Chris to follow. Alicia finds Matt ill in his disheveled house. Travis arrives and sees a bite on Matt, who convinces Alicia to leave and not risk contagion. The group returns to Madison's home to gather supplies. Nick suffers from opiate withdrawal, so Madison drives to her school to get him some confiscated Oxycodone to ease his symptoms so they can travel. There, she encounters Tobias scavenging food. A zombified Artie tries to bite Tobias, so Madison kills Artie and drives Tobias home. Chris’ bus is trapped in a traffic jam caused by a zombie shooting by the police. He films the event and joins in a protest against that and other recent fatal police shootings, when Travis and Liza meet up with him. A riot erupts after police shoot down another zombie, but the three Manawas find refuge with the Salazars in their gated barbershop-home. Travis tells Madison to take the kids to the desert without him; he will catch up. Alicia witnesses her zombified neighbor, Mr. Dawson, attacking Mrs. Cruz across the street, but Madison prevents her from intervening. The group inside the barbershop remains trapped, while the riot outside intensifies to chaos.
3 | 3 | "The Dog" | Adam Davidson | Jack LoGiudice | September 13, 2015 | 7.19[6] |
While a riot rages outside, a mob sets fire to the store adjoining the barbershop, forcing the Salazars and Manawas to flee. The group reaches Travis' truck and escapes, but not before Griselda is injured by a collapsing scaffold. Unable to reach a hospital, the group drives to Madison's house, where Nick, Madison, and Alicia temporarily flee when the zombified Mr. Dawson attempts to enter, attracted by the barking dog Nick had let in. Nick leads Madison and Alicia to the Trans' house next door, where they take a shotgun. Travis arrives and is attacked by Mr. Dawson, who is shot and killed by Daniel. All three families decide to stay the night and evacuate in the morning. Nurse Liza tends to Griselda's injured foot but notes that Griselda will lose the foot if not treated by a doctor. Ofelia tells Daniel they should flee with Travis, but Daniel insists his family can survive alone and will join his cousin later. The next morning, as the Clarks and Manawas start driving away, the National Guard arrives and quarantines the block. While Travis says, "It's going to get better," Daniel laments that it’s, "too late," as he watches a guardsman mark the neighboring house.
4 | 4 | "Not Fade Away" | Kari Skogland | Meaghan Oppenheimer | September 20, 2015 | 6.62[7] |
Days after the National Guard quarantines the neighborhood into a Safe Zone, residents try to live normally. Tensions build under the military rule. Madison is stressed by extra work caused by her home's being overcrowded and Travis' new role as civilian liaison. Chris shows a video to Travis and Madison of a light signaling from the Dead Zone. Travis talks Doug into getting mental help. Liza medically helps neighbors. Nick steals morphine from a severely ill Hector via IV drip then lies to his mother about not needing his weaning-off tablets. Ofelia kisses Adams, who was unable to get Griselda's medicine. Madison exchanges signals with the flashing light in the Dead Zone. She sneaks outside the fence to investigate and finds evidence that the guardsmen killed civilians, even the uninfected. Travis learns that Doug has been hospitalized for his anxiety issues. Dr. Exner determines that Liza is not technically a nurse but asks her to keep pretending under the circumstances. Daniel warns Madison of his El Salvador experience, when the sick were taken under the guise of receiving hospitalization but instead killed. Soldiers take Griselda and Nick to a hospital, but Nick's family protests his departure. Liza agrees to go to assist the medical team, despite not wanting to leave her son. Travis retreats to the roof and sees the signal from the Dead Zone. Seconds later, he sees and hears gunfire, followed by darkness.
5 | 5 | "Cobalt" | Kari Skogland | David Wiener | September 27, 2015 | 6.66[8] |
In a military cell, Strand bribes a guardsman to save feverish Nick from being moved. Liza helps Dr. Exner with patients at the hospital. Chris is devastated that Liza left voluntarily to help at the hospital, but Travis promises to bring her back. Madison discovers Daniel detaining Adams in the Trans' basement. Alicia and Chris get drunk within, play luxury dress-up, then vandalize the abandoned home of a wealthy family. Strand recruits Nick for an escape plot. Travis convinces Moyers' squad to take him to the hospital to check on his friends. While en route, Moyers encourages Travis to shoot a zombie, but Travis is emotionally unable to pull the trigger. The soldiers stop to assist another squad in a building infested by zombies, and most of those soldiers, including Moyers, are overcome. The few survivors flee and drop off Travis near the Safe Zone. Travis learns that Daniel tortured Adams into revealing what "Cobalt" means: in the morning, all civilians will be killed, and the guardsmen will evacuate the city. Griselda dies of septic shock at the hospital; Liza shoots her brain to prevent reanimation. Daniel visits a nearby sports arena to verify Adams' story that it was sealed with 2,000 now-zombified civilians inside.
6 | 6 | "The Good Man" | Stefan Schwartz | Robert Kirkman & Dave Erickson | October 4, 2015 | 6.86[9] |
The group drives to the National Guard's headquarters to rescue Liza, Griselda, and Nick. Adams agrees to be their guide when let go by Travis. The group infiltrates the base after Daniel distracts the guards by leading a horde of walkers from the arena. Travis, Madison, Daniel, and Ofelia go inside, while Alicia and Chris stay behind. Meanwhile, the walkers breach the perimeter defenses and swarm the base. Travis' group reach the holding cells and set the detainees free before reuniting with Nick, Liza, and Strand. They try to escape through the medical ward, where they discover Dr. Exner has euthanized all of the patients since evac abandoned them. Dr. Exner tells them of an escape route, though believes it's useless trying, before presumably committing suicide. Before they can escape, the group encounters a vengeful Adams, who shoots Ofelia in the arm. Enraged, Travis brutally beats Adams and leaves him for dead. Strand leads the group to his oceanside mansion, where he reveals to Nick that he owns a yacht which he plans to escape on, called the Abigail. On the beach, Liza reveals to Madison that she had been bitten during the escape. Knowing there's no cure, Liza pleads with Madison and Travis to euthanize her before she turns. Travis promises to protect Chris before shooting Liza in the head. |

Strand returns to the compound to help the rest of the group escape the fire, but when Madison sees Nick, he tells her that he couldn't find Travis and he isn't going with them because Celia was right about the group destroying everything in their path, and he no longer wants to be a part of it.

In Tijuana, Nick and Luciana are awoken by news that one of the community's scouts, Francisco, has deserted with his family. With the community losing scouts at an increasing rate, Alejandro is worried the community might collapse, and forbids anybody from leaving, even for supply runs. Nick is concerned since they were supposed to trade their medicine to the bandits, who will most likely attack the community if they don't get what they want. At the bandit warehouse, Madison and Elena arrive to trade, where she overhears the bandits interrogating Francisco. Madison overhears them describe Nick's appearance and tries to find out where he is with no success. Nick patrols the perimeter and spots the bandits scouting the community from a distance. Upon returning to the hotel, Madison turns on the hotel lights against everybody's wishes in hopes of attracting Nick's attention, though Alicia convinces her to respect Nick's decision to choose death over their family. Madison shuts off the lights, but not before Travis, now alone, sees them.

Madison then spots Travis among the crowd and lets him inside. Back in the past, Travis begins to treat the wounded tourist James' wounded leg and buries the dead farmer. That night, Travis tries to warn Chris not to associate with the tourists, but Chris rebuffs him. One week later, the tourists decide to leave for San Diego in spite of Travis' warnings that the city has been burned to the ground. However, James still hasn't fully recovered and cannot be moved. Fearing that James will be murdered by the others, Travis steals Chris' gun in an effort to protect him. James then tells Travis that he and his friends made a pact to ensure none of them would turn, and he was the one who mercy killed a fourth member of their group. He believes his friends, who think he's dying, will kill him under the misguided belief that it will be a mercy killing as well. Chris arrives to deliver food, but it turns out to be a trick when the other two tourists ambush Travis and execute James. Travis tries one last time to convince Chris to come with him, but Chris leaves with the remaining two tourists. Back in the present, Travis laments to Madison how he failed to take care of Chris, and regrets that he never told him he loved him before parting ways. Madison then talks with Alicia and reveals to her that her father's car crash was not accidental, but suicide and reiterates her love for her. Ofelia manages to successfully reach the American border. In Tijuana, Nick attempts to convince the bandits not to attack the community, but their leader, Marco, explains to him that he knows how they get in and out of the Colonia, using the walkers as their army, and leaves him with an ultimatum: abandon the community or he and his men will slaughter everybody. To demonstrate his resolve, Marco shows Nick the executed corpses of Francisco and his family. Nick then returns and warns Luciana about the impending attack and asks her to leave with him. However, Luciana is still adamant in Alejandro's ability to protect them. Frustrated, Nick forces Alejandro to admit that he's not actually immune to the infection, and that he had been using his medical experience to merely suppress the symptoms. At the hotel, the tourists are let in, and Madison recognizes them based on Travis' description. The tourists anger the rest of the refugees and are about to be thrown out of the hotel when Travis stops them and asks what happened to Chris. The tourists explain that Chris accidentally crashed their truck and was killed by the impact. However, several inconsistencies in their stories lead Travis to conclude that Chris was only injured in the crash and was killed by the tourists. Enraged, Travis beats the tourists to death and severely injures Oscar who tries to stop him.

In the community, Alejandro refuses to back down and orders the community members to prepare to defend their homes against the bandits. Not wanting to get caught in the fighting, Nick notices a helicopter landing at a town on the American side of the border. He returns to convince Alejandro to evacuate the community. The next day, when Marco and his bandits arrive, they find the community seemingly abandoned. However, unknown to them, a terminally ill Alejandro breaks open the community's improvised gate, allowing the infected to enter and forcing Marco and his men to flee. Nick and Luciana lead their group out of the colony and towards the border. At the hotel, Oscar suffers a severe head injury due to Travis and is taken to be treated. Since Travis violated the rule of no violence against other survivors, Madison is reluctant to have Travis exiled but ultimately agrees to go with him the next morning. Oscar dies from his head injury. Enraged, several of the hotel survivors break into Travis' room and attack him, forcing Alicia to kill one of them to save his life. Travis, Madison, and Alicia are forced to flee the hotel while Strand decides to stay behind after intervening to help them escape. They return to the bandits' supermarket and find the entire building abandoned, and Alicia questions Madison's motives when she starts searching bodies of Francisco and his family for clues to find Nick. They arrive at the community and find that Marco and his men have been killed by the infected. Alicia finds a dying Alejandro, and his last words instruct them to look for Nick at the border. Meanwhile, as Nick and Luciana lead their group across the border, they catch sight of the helicopter again before they are suddenly attacked by another armed group. The survivors flee, but Nick and Luciana are captured. |

Everyone gets inside the SWAT truck and realize Martha has vanished. Morgan suggests they find Althea and head to Virginia. Althea manages to escape from the hospital but is knocked out by Martha and a zombified Jim. Martha uses her to deliver a video message to the group in which she vows to make Morgan strong. While the rest of the group retreats back to the truck stop before heading to Alexandria, Morgan sets out to look for Martha and help her overcome her issues with helping people. He finds her at her husband's grave along with the Infected Jim who Morgan sadly puts down. Morgan plans to bring Martha with him to the truck stop, but she causes him to crash his car after he receives a distress call from the others, who have been poisoned with antifreeze in the water bottles. After nearly reverting to his old self and killing her, Morgan sets out on foot to get within reach of the truck stop to let the others know by what they have been poisoned. With Martha dying of blood loss and a raging infection from her prior untreated gunshot wound, Morgan handcuffs her to a car door so that she can't harm anyone when she turns. While their truckload of ethanol, the antidote, goes to waste due to bullet holes, Morgan arrives in time with a supply of Jim's beer to save everyone. He then returns to Martha and finds she has turned, so he puts her down. The group decides not to go to Alexandria and instead continue the Polar Bear's work. Operating out of a denim factory, they set out to create a network helping lost people and to turn the factory into something special, mimicking Madison's plans for the stadium. |

After encountering another roadblock warning of high radiation while searching for the missing Althea, Morgan encounters a woman named Grace while dispatching two walkers in a trap. She explains that due to a power plant meltdown the year before, there are over sixty radioactive walkers in the area. Simply getting close to the walkers risks survivors becoming contaminated, causing Morgan to permanently lose his contaminated staff. As the former manager of the plant, Grace blames herself for the deaths of her friends and is on a mission to find and eliminate the radioactive walkers, herself terminally ill with radiation sickness. John and June locate the campground where the children possibly came from, only to discover that the residents succumbed to radiation sickness. Grace sets out on her own to hunt down the rest, promising to keep in touch. At the same time, Victor tracks down Daniel, who helps him make contact with Luciana. Though convinced of the problem, Daniel refuses to lend his plane to Victor who he feels will only make things worse based on past experiences. After passing out following a walker attack, Luciana wakes up to discover that someone has cut off walker heads and strung them from a billboard at the truck stop, causing the group to become convinced that they are getting close to something someone does not want them to see.

Dwight leads the group to the biggest walker roadblock yet, but they are interrupted by a call from Max. Daniel forgives Strand and gives the group use of his warehouse while he continues his mission. John finds a note from Sherry asking Dwight to give up the search, but keeps it a secret. After struggling to find a solution, Strand and Charlie arrive to help with the propellers from Daniel's plane using Jim Brauer's old hot air balloon. Much of the episode is presented in a found-footage/documentary format. Althea interviews the entire group to document how things have changed since escaping the radioactive zone: The group travels in a caravan, but June is working to find the group a permanent home; Alicia has stopped killing walkers and is struggling to find a new purpose; Dwight is thankful for finding the group, but still hopes to find Sherry; Sarah reveals they stole Logan's oil truck and abandoned him. Morgan tells a story where he and several others helped a woman, Tess, get medicine for her son and convinced them to leave their house for the first time since the outbreak. The tape concludes with everyone pleading with future survivors to help others in any way they can. It is then revealed that the tape is being watched by another survivor, Wes, who is at a gas station. He considers reaching out, but decides against it. As he prepares to leave, Logan's crew shows up and steals his gas before destroying his motorcycle. Logan tells Wes to call Morgan for help, and to let him know they are making more enemies than friends. Logan's crew leave Wes behind as a herd of walkers approach.

At the mall, Grace starts to feel the effects of the radiation sickness and briefly passes out. Dwight leaves to get medical supplies and vows to return with the caravan the next morning. Alone at the mall, Morgan and Grace share details about their past lives and grow closer together. They find an Urgent Care center, but when they try to get in, a security alarm is triggered, drawing the attention of walkers. As Dwight returns to the caravan, he is captured by Rollie, a member of Logan's crew. Rollie taunts Dwight about Sherry, but Dwight quickly gets the upper hand. Rather than killing him, Dwight decides to free Rollie, but orders him to leave the area and never return. After fighting off the walkers, Morgan and Grace find Chuck on the roof, where he dies peacefully. Grace decides not to utilize the Urgent Care center, not wanting to worry about how much time she has left. The following morning, Morgan and Grace bury Chuck as the caravan arrives. Morgan decides to go support Althea on a separate supply run, leaving Grace behind without admitting his true feelings toward her.

Elsewhere, Morgan and Althea enter a bank, where Althea puts her tapes of interviews in a safety deposit box. They pick up a distress call from Alicia and attempt to track down the injured man and the stolen truck, but their progress is halted by Logan's crew. Alicia, Strand and Wes escape the police station and track down the injured man. He attempts to strangle Wes, but Wes overpowers him and stabs him before asking where a manuscript is. The man tells Wes it's in his bag before dying. Alicia angrily questions why Wes would kill someone over a manuscript; Wes only says "people are people" before walking away. Logan radios Clayton for help, but he doesn't answer. He makes a desperate attempt to rescue Serena, but arrives too late and she is devoured by walkers (it is revealed that Clayton was unable to help because Sarah and Wendell stole his truck during the hurricane). A distraught Logan is soon found by a group riding on horseback, led by a woman named Virginia. She says she has been watching him and shares his vision. In the present, Logan's crew arrive at the oil field and a standoff ensues, with Logan declaring they are taking all of the oil. The smoke and fire from the oil field attract countless walkers, forcing everyone to take shelter. A reluctant Sarah saves Logan's life as they hide in an office. Meanwhile, Alicia and Strand receive a call from a woman holed up in the same gas station Serena was. Logan, who is listening, encourages the woman to commit suicide, but she is rescued by Wes. Alicia and Strand arrive, but the woman says they need to leave before the people she ran away from show up. The next morning, the oil field walkers are dispatched and the standoff resumes. Logan appears to have a change of heart, but he and his crew are viciously gunned down by another group. Virginia arrives, and feels they can all help each other. Morgan washes ashore in Louisiana, and is rescued from a posse by Madison Clark, who kidnaps Mo and turns her over to PADRE. Having survived the stadium fire with lung damage that requires her to use an oxygen tank, Madison was recruited by PADRE to kidnap children with the promise of helping her find Nick and Alicia in return; she eventually decided to forget them due to the acts she committed. After realizing who Madison is, Morgan lies that he can take her to her children if she leads him to Mo. Needing another baby to trade for Mo, Morgan and Madison convince Ava, a pregnant survivor, to take PADRE's offer of safety. Morgan admits the truth about Nick and Alicia's fates to Madison, while it's revealed that Ava faked her pregnancy in order to get into PADRE and find her missing daughter. Morgan is forced to surrender Madison to the posse, who bury her in the sand to drown at high tide. Morgan rescues Madison before they discover that the posse has been killed by PADRE. Madison agrees to help Morgan rescue Mo. Posing as another Collector, Morgan offers the location of his group to PADRE, and he and Madison are blindfolded and taken on a boat for transport to PADRE. |

Taken to PADRE, an island off the coast of Georgia, Morgan and Madison overpower several guards and rescue Mo. Seven years later, a suicidal Madison is imprisoned for her role in Mo's escape. Learning about Madison, a young girl named Wren attempts to enlist her help for training to take part in PADRE's future, but Madison discovers she is actually Mo, and has been brainwashed by PADRE. They escape the island and encounter Morgan, now working for PADRE, who believes that Mo is safer on the island. Morgan leads them to a houseboat in a walker-infested swamp, where Mo finds references to Morgan's past life. Under attack by walkers, Morgan admits a similar attack seven years ago caused him to give Mo up to PADRE for her safety. Grace arrives and rescues the group, but Morgan and Grace reluctantly decide to turn Mo back over to PADRE. Now disillusioned with PADRE, Mo begs her parents to flee with her, but they refuse. Madison is taken back into custody, while Morgan is fired out of fear that he will eventually choose Mo over PADRE. Back on the island, Mo claims to have learned her lesson and resumes her training with newfound confidence.

June, living alone in the wilderness, attacks PADRE Collectors and cuts off their trigger fingers. She meets a desperate father, Adrian, who is searching for his daughter, Hannah. During an ambush, June discovers Dwight, Sherry and their son Finch, who has appendicitis and needs surgery. June reluctantly agrees to help and takes them to an abandoned lab. Joined by Adrian, June admits she performed experiments with radiation to find a cure to bite infections after having deduced that Alicia had survived due to her previous exposure.[lower-alpha 1] However, the radiation levels were fatal to her test subjects, causing June to abandon her research. After finding Hannah amongst the test subjects, a devastated Adrian allows himself to be devoured rather than live without her. June saves Finch and decides to flee PADRE with Dwight and Sherry. They are caught by Shrike, who cuts off June's trigger finger and has Finch bitten by an undead Adrian in order to motivate June to resume working on a cure. Elsewhere, Morgan admits his guilt over something he didn't do in his past is holding him back in his relationship with Mo. Madison helps Morgan escape, remaining behind and ordering him to go fix whatever it is.

He implores his children Sam and Ben to continue PADRE's mission. In the present, with June's treatment having been successful on Finch, Shrike prepares to experiment on Madison. Suspicious of Finch's fate, Mo and Dove find the train and create a distraction, allowing June to overpower Shrike. The group Adrian was part of, led by Daniel, eventually captures them. Daniel, having been abandoned by PADRE, reveals he organized a group of parents into a resistance movement to rescue their kids. With Shrike as a hostage, Madison, June and Dove return to the island and confront PADRE, who is revealed to be Ben. After losing their father, Shrike and Ben restructured PADRE to protect children from the pain of losing their parents while simultaneously working to rebuild the world. Dove turns on Madison after learning she is actually Odessa Sanderson and her mother died in Louisiana because Madison convinced her that she could rescue her daughter. Daniel rescues Madison and June, and vows to find Morgan. Shrike returns to the shipyard and tells Ben they will clear out the walkers and begin their expansion, as their father intended.

Morgan reveals his wife, Jenny, bit Duane after he couldn't bring himself to put her down when he had the chance. Morgan and Grace are eventually captured and forced to show Shrike's forces that they are telling the truth about Morgan's mission, but they find no sign of Duane. Dwight and Sherry kill the guards with them, unwilling to allow Morgan to be executed, and help Finch escape from Shrike's captivity. Left alone, Grace confesses to Morgan that she is terminally ill from radiation sickness. While trying to escape from Morgan's burning house, Mo discovers her father chained up Duane in the attic years before during his period of insanity. With Mo in danger, Morgan is finally able to shoot Duane with the gun that Rick Grimes had left for him and buries Jenny and Duane's bodies. Shortly thereafter, a walker bites Grace, and Morgan vows to get her to June for help.

Shrike offers Morgan a deal where she'll help him in exchange for Morgan clearing out the shipyard, but Morgan, Daniel and the others decline when they learn it has to be done by hand. Meanwhile, Finch becomes sick as his own infection returns, the treatment only having a temporary effect due to June not using enough radiation out of the fear it would kill him. Morgan finally accepts Grace's fate, but Mo goes against her parents' wishes and takes Grace to the train car. Although June guides Mo through the treatment, it fails to work and Grace dies. Mo is unable to put down Grace, who reanimates. Morgan arrives in time to save Mo from a zombified Grace, and Mo decides to re-join PADRE as a way of escaping from her pain. Shrike locks Morgan in the train car surrounded by a herd as she, Mo and the others prepare to attack the walkers at the shipyard.

Descending back into periodic insanity after losing Grace, Morgan escapes from the train car and teams up with Madison and Daniel's group to stop PADRE'S expansion. Having been outmatched by the walkers at the shipyard, Mo and the Prefects lead them into the swamps towards Morgan's houseboat, but Shrike knows her father carries the coordinates PADRE needs. After attacking his allies, Morgan ends up trapped with Mo at the houseboat. He helps Mo escape before being rescued by Madison. As Shrike prepares to kill them, Krennick crawls out of the swamp and bites her; Madison puts Krennick down and takes the coordinates. Ben and the Prefects surrender following an impassioned plea by Madison, Morgan and Daniel. At the request of a dying Finch, June allows Ben to euthanize Shrike and banishes him from PADRE. After burying Finch and knowing they only bring pain to each other, Dwight and Sherry decide to end their relationship for good. Finally at peace with his losses, Morgan buries Grace by Eastman's cabin and decides to return to Alexandria with Mo to find Rick Grimes. As Madison rebuilds PADRE into its original purpose, an unknown survivor, in possession of Strand's sunglasses and Alicia's prosthetic arm, is shown to be listening to her broadcast.

On the run from a hostile group, Madison takes shelter in a friendly hotel community run by Victor Strand who is now going by the name Anton, has adopted a son named Klaus, with his husband Frank, and hides his past. When the other group comes searching for Madison, frightened of his past coming back to haunt him, Strand tries to turn her over to them, but Klaus helps Madison to escape and convinces his father to help. Hiding from a herd, Strand explains that after leaving Texas, he and several others washed up in Georgia, but they rejected his help due to Strand's tyrannical past, leading to their deaths of starvation. Remorseful for his actions and wanting to live up to Alicia's request to become a better man, Strand reinvented himself as Anton, the man that he wants to be. Madison, Strand and his people are captured by the hostile group who are revealed to be led, much to Madison and Strand's shock, by Troy Otto who had supposedly died several years ago at Madison's hands. Having survived blinded in one eye, Troy seeks revenge on Madison and to take PADRE for his people, exposing Madison and Strand's secrets to Strand's people. Before Troy can harm anyone, the group is rescued by Daniel, June, Sherry and several others and Madison takes Strand's people back to PADRE. Before they leave, Troy claims to have killed Alicia Clark and left her to reanimate, providing Madison with Alicia's prosthetic arm as proof of his claims.

In search of gas, Daniel, Strand and Madison are reunited with Luciana and Charlie who was cured of her illness by PADRE. After being captured by PADRE, Luciana had agreed to refine oil for them in exchange for the use of PADRE's resources to help other survivors across the country and for the release of Daniel whom PADRE had intended to kill. Charlie confesses to an enraged Madison that she was the one to murder Nick, causing Madison to blame her choices for the deaths of her children. Madison demands that Charlie use her skills to assassinate Troy, but relents and forgives the girl after discovering that Charlie had Nick's body dug up and cremated, leaving Nick's ashes for his mother. However, Charlie is captured by Troy who demands the location of PADRE in exchange for Charlie's release. In the chaos of an explosion that she set, Charlie breaks free and commits suicide, sacrificing herself to protect PADRE. Madison briefly helps Troy to search for his missing daughter Tracy, learning that he was cutting off the arms of walkers to mess with her and that Troy blames Madison for the death of Tracy's mother, something that Madison has no knowledge of. The death of Charlie causes Luciana and Daniel to turn against Madison, and Daniel leaves to be with Luciana. Realizing that they're right, Madison leaves PADRE in Strand's care and goes off on her own.

Devastated by the loss of his son, Dwight returns to his and Sherry's old home where he encounters Jay, another survivor whose much needed insulin has been stolen by a group of bandits living in the long-abandoned Sanctuary, Negan's old fortress. Dwight retrieves the insulin, burning one of the bandits to death in the furnace, but Jay has already succumbed to his diabetes. Experiencing an emotional breakdown, Dwight is approached for help in the fight against Troy by Sherry, June and Dove, but Dwight refuses, believing that he will only cause more harm to people that he cares about. Dove is shot by the bandits, forcing the group to take her to the Sanctuary for treatment where Dove reveals that she was trying to run away because she believes that under the current leadership, they will just get everyone killed. At the Sanctuary, Dwight and Sherry are forced to face their trauma from living under Negan while June is forced to face her guilt over being unable to save her daughter and Finch. A herd and the bandits attack, causing the already unstable building to collapse, killing everyone but Dwight, Sherry, June and Dove who hide in the furnace. Filled with a renewed determination to make something good out of all the bad that they've encountered, June successfully removes the bullet and Dwight agrees to return to PADRE, inviting June and Dove, who returns to going by her birth name Odessa, to join his and Sherry's family. Strand captures Troy's daughter Tracy and tells Tracy that she will help him to save PADRE.
111 | 10 | "Keeping Her Alive" | James Armstrong | Nazrin Choudhury & Calaya Michelle Stallworth | November 12, 2023 | 0.47[106] |
Furious about Strand's abduction of Tracy, Dwight, Sherry and June attempt to return the girl to her father along with Strand. Wanting to save Tracy from that, Strand escapes with her and brings Tracy to Madison who is continuing her search for Alicia and Tracy agrees to help Madison find Alicia. Wanting to use Tracy to get revenge for Ofelia's death, Daniel accompanies them, throwing Strand out of the truck when he tries to stop them. Strand is rescued by a group of women driving Al's old SWAT van who explain that, after escaping Texas with dozens of survivors who had heard her message,[lower-alpha 2] Alicia had traveled around helping survivor groups until her apparent death; having been saved by Alicia, the group has been keeping her alive for other people. Tracy leads Daniel and Madison into a trapped herd that she claims holds Alicia, but in reality, it's an attempt to get Madison killed by her zombified mother who Tracy claims died because she believed in the same things as Madison and Alicia. Tracy finally tells Madison that Alicia is in a mansion near Fort Worth and Strand talks Madison down from killing Tracy, but she escapes with the knowledge of where PADRE is, convinced that Troy was right about them. Troy attacks Luciana's truck stop, killing most of both groups, but they realize that Troy intends to attack PADRE using an army of the dead like he did with Broke Jaw Ranch.[lower-alpha 3] Unwilling to risk anyone else that she cares about, Madison goes after Troy alone in the SWAT van.
112 | 11 | "Fighting Like You" | Haifaa al-Mansour | Nick Bernardone & Jacob Pinion & Kelly Jane Costello | November 19, 2023 | 0.44[106] |
Troy begins leading a massive herd to PADRE, but his truck is wrecked by a trap, causing Tracy to seek out Madison's help. After a brief scuffle, the two reach a deal where Madison will help Troy bury his wife Serena and reunite with Tracy and he will lead them to the herd. Troy reveals that Alicia had saved Serena from a walker bite, causing Serena to follow in Alicia's footsteps. Serena was killed in a robbery while answering a distress call, causing the grief-stricken Troy to blame Alicia and Madison. However, the two are attacked by a vengeful Ben Krennick who seeks to reclaim PADRE for himself. Ben reveals that he and Shrike had rescued Madison from the destruction of the Dell Diamond baseball stadium[lower-alpha 4] and used her love for her children to manipulate Madison to do their bidding. Madison draws in walkers who devour Ben while Troy unexpectedly saves her life. A remorseful Troy admits that Serena had encouraged him to continue helping others even after it killed her, and Troy willingly helps Madison's group to stop the herd. Believing that Alicia giving Troy a second chance got her daughter killed, Madison fatally impales Troy with Alicia's prosthetic arm rather than making peace with him. Before dying, Troy implores Madison to take care of Tracy, claiming that she is actually Alicia's daughter who Troy had kidnapped.
113 | 12 | "The Road Ahead" | Michael E. Satrazemis | Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss | November 19, 2023 | 0.44[106] |
Now convinced that trying to help others only gets people killed, Madison attempts to set out with Tracy to find Alicia, putting Madison at odds with her friends. Russell reveals that Alicia might still be alive before launching an attack on PADRE with thousands of walkers in retaliation for Troy's death. Tracy shoots Madison and puts down and buries a zombified Troy before later being found by Strand. Strand reveals that although PADRE was destroyed, everyone escaped because Madison, having been protected from the bullet by Alicia's St. Christopher's medallion, had once again seemingly sacrificed herself to destroy the herd the exact same way that she did at the stadium. Renaming the organization MADRE in honor of Madison's sacrifice, the group splits up to use MADRE's supplies to build new communities and honor Madison's ideals of trying to build something better. June decides to return to John Dorie's cabin with Odessa and to provide medical attention to those in need while Dwight and Sherry set out to find the still missing parents of PADRE's children, intending to rebuild the Sanctuary with them. Daniel and Strand finally make peace before parting ways and Daniel is reunited with his long-lost cat Skidmark.[lower-alpha 5] Madison is rescued by Tracy and reunites with a still alive Alicia who reveals that she is not Tracy's mother. Madison and Alicia let Strand know that they had survived, but choose to keep their survival a secret otherwise. Madison decides to return to Los Angeles with Alicia and Tracy to help rebuild their old home. |
