Kandice Melanakos (born December 20, 1987), known by her stage name Lola Blanc, is an American singer, songwriter, actress, writer, and model based in Los Angeles. Lola co-wrote Britney Spears' single "Ooh La La" and is an artist. Known for her "technicolor style, edgy pop production, and spunky lyrics,"[1] Blanc has been declared a "rising star" and "retro pop princess" by RyanSeacrest.com,[2] a "talented pop scribe" who is "ready to make waves" by pop blog Idolator,[3] "one badass chick" by Refinery29,[4] and "one to watch" in 2014 by Ladygunn Magazine.[5] She reached number 3 on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart in April 2014.[6]

Blanc is also a contributing writer for Vice.com.[7]

History

Blanc was born in Germany to but raised primarily on a farm in Fremont, Michigan. Brought up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) by a father who was in the CIA and a motivational speaker mother,[8] she spent much of her childhood writing songs and performing as a ventriloquist[9] with her mother and brother, who performed magic and escape art.[1] Eventually Lola moved to Los Angeles, where she now resides, to pursue music full-time.

Music and career

Lola Blanc has written songs alongside producers and songwriters such as Dr. Luke, Ammo, Bonnie McKee, Fernando Garibay, Jimmy Harry, Jonas Jeberg, Jon Levine, Chris DeStefano, and more.

Blanc originally co-wrote Britney Spears' single Ooh La La with Fransisca Hall and producer Ammo for her own project; the title was intended to be a play on her name. When Dr. Luke heard it, he thought it'd be perfect it for Spears and brought in songwriters Bonnie McKee and J. Kash to rewrite the lyrics so they would better suit Spears and The Smurfs 2.[3]

Collaborations

Blanc has been photographed and filmed for a number of fashion and beauty brands, including Vera Wang Princess, Make Up For Ever, Hot Topic and Lime Crime Makeup. YouTube celebrity makeup artist Michelle Phan has used several of Blanc's songs (Shangri-La, April Fools, and Bad Tattoo) in her tutorial videos.[10][11]

Blanc has also made appearances in a number of music videos; she plays the lead role in the Interpol music video "Lights"[12] and is featured in the LMFAO music video for "Sexy and I Know It,"[13] as well as the Lifehouse music video "Halfway Gone,"[14] among others.
