Maggie Lindsy Haberman (born October 30, 1973) is a political correspondent for The New York Times, based in New York City, and a political analyst for CNN. Her former employers were Politico and before that New York Daily News, where she was a political reporter for both organizations.
Early life and education
Haberman was born on October 30, 1973, in New York City, New York, the daughter of Clyde Haberman, a journalist who worked for The New York Times, and media communications executive Nancy Haberman (née Spies).[1][2] She is a 1991 graduate of Ethical Culture Fieldston School, an independent preparatory school in New York City, followed by Sarah Lawrence College, a private liberal arts college in the village of Bronxville in New York, where she obtained a baccalaureate, in 1995.[3]
Career
Haberman's professional career began in 1996 when she was hired by the New York Post.[4] In 1999, the Post assigned her to cover City Hall, where she became "hooked" on political reporting.[5] Haberman worked for the Post's rival newspaper, the New York Daily News, for three and a half years in the early 2000s,[5] where she covered City Hall.[2] Haberman returned to the Post to cover the 2008 presidential campaign, among other political races.[6] In 2010, Haberman was hired by Politico as a senior reporter.[7] She became a political analyst for CNN in 2014. Haberman was hired by The New York Times in early 2015 to be a political correspondent for their presidential campaign coverage during 2016.[6]
It was revealed in John Podesta's leaked emails that Maggie Haberman had a: “...very good relationship” with the campaign. “We have had her tee up stories for us before and have never been disappointed,” the leaked email quoting John Podesta said.[8]
Personal life
Haberman married Dareh Ardashes Gregorian, a current reporter for New York Daily News formerly of the New York Post and son of Vartan Gregorian, in a November 2003 ceremony on the Tribeca Rooftop in Manhattan, officiated by Judge Edward R. Korman.[2] They have three children together.
