Mavli is a town and Tehsil in the Udaipur district, state of Rajasthan, India.
Mavli Junction ( IR Station code MVJ) is an important railway junction station under Ajmer division of North Western Railway zone of Indian Railways. It connects Marwar Junction on north-west direction, Chittaurgarh junction on North-West direction, Bari Sadri on south-east direction and Udaipur city on West direction.
The town is a Tehsil headquarters, having Panchayat Samiti and also sub division office under Udaipur district. It is also a Vidhan Sabha (State Legislative Assembly) seat. The popular leaders like Pt Janardan Rai Nagar, Achraya Niranjan Nath, Mr Narendra Pal Singh Choudhary, Mr Hanuman Prasad Prabhakar and Mr. Shanti Lal Chaplot were elected from this seat. This town falls in the Chittaurgarh loksabha constituency, while the district headquarters is Udaipur. The old Mavli village now has deserted look. The old village market looks abandoned. New residential colonies have come up around railway station. The village has a Navodaya Vidyalaya. The village has temple of Laxmi Narayan, Shriramji- Seetamata- Laxmanji (Akhada), Thirthankar Chanda Prabhu Swamy (Jain Temple), lok temples like Adra Bavji, Radaji Bawji and Chamunda Mata.
The village has a famous bawri (step well) known as Bai Raj Ki Bawri. As per the history of Mewar Maharana Udaisingh won his battle against Banbir is the Chaprada (free land for cattle fodder)of Mavli and saved the Sisodia clan. He later founded the city of Udaipur. Over the years rain fall has declined and potable water is a big problem. Two ponds near the village namely Naya Talab (Hemsagar) and Nathela hardly get rain water. The another big ponds meant for irrigation namely BAGOLIA also remains dry, it was last overflown in 1973. The town is famous for its Sweet Rabdi. The station Road Junction is in very bad shape as the same is occupied illegally by the vegetable, fruit and other vendors right outside the Govt. Higher Secondary School. During early post independent time after Udaipur and Dabok, it was Mavli, which had school up to middle level.
The gauge conversion took place in the year 2005 and the town is now connected with broad gauge on Udaipur- Chittaurgarh Section of North Western Railway. However, the gange conversion between Mavli- Marwar Jn and Mavli- Bari Sadri remain a far cry. Some new trains introduced on the BG Section and the village is connected to Sealdah (Kolkata), Gwalior (MP) via Jaipur, Bandra (Mumbai), Jaipur, Kota, Delhi and Indore. There has been movements and public demand to convert Mavli- Barisadri and Mavli Jn- Marwar Jn tracks in to BG line. The gauge conversion between Mavli Jn and Nathdwara (temple town- famous temple of Lord Shreenathji) Road took place in the year 2011. The Railways have provide a weekly train between Nathdwara and Okha (Gujarat) via Ratlam, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Rajkot. The major cities of Rajasthan namely Ajmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaipur are well connected to south Indian cities of Pune, Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai and few cities of Kerala etc. by weekly or bi-weekly trains. Such train links have not been provided to Udaipur- Chittorgarh Section of NWR. This more-than-100-year-old (since 1890) rail junction is ill treated by the India Railways. Recently, the SH-09, which is passing through the town has been converted into a four lane road. This has caused a major problem to the town. Entire SH-09 between Dabok and Chittaurgarh carved new bypasses and not passed through populated villages. However, Mavli has to face this four-lane road passing through mid of the town. The nearest airport Maharana Pratap Air port DABOK (Udaipur) is 26 km. The temple town of Nathdwara is 28 km from Mavli.
