"My Heart Is Open" is a song recorded by Maroon 5 for their fifth studio album, V (2014). The song features guest vocals from American singer and songwriter Gwen Stefani. It was released on August 29, 2014, as the eleventh and closing track on V by Interscope Records. "My Heart Is Open" was written by Adam Levine, Benjamin Levin, Sia Furler, Rodney Jerkins, and Andre Lindal, with production from Benny Blanco, Darkchild, Lindal, and Levine.

Musically, "My Heart Is Open" is a piano ballad and contains many elements of general pop music. Upon release, "My Heart Is Open" received generally favorable reviews from contemporary music critics.

Background

James Valentine, the guitarist for Maroon 5, stated "it's cool for all of us to have [Stefani] on the record, and Adam won't shut up about how cool she is as a person." Valentine also told Billboard that Stefani's band No Doubt influenced the early incarnation of Maroon 5, Kara's Flowers.

Composition

Chris Payne of Billboard magazine describes the song as "an emotional piano ballad clearly crafted for Adult Contemporary radio domination."[1]

Critical reception

Marissa G. Muller of Radio.com, called the song "the perfect closer. It's a slow-burning song, as Maroon 5 have been known to make".[2]

Live performances

Levine and Stefani performed the song for the first time at the 57th Grammy Awards on February 8, 2015.[3] The song is also included on the set list for Maroon 5's 2015 world tour, Maroon 5 World Tour 2015.
