Kaithali Sree Mahadeva Temple
The temple, carved out in a single mammoth rectangular granite stone, has puzzled experts as the topography has no granite rocks.[7] It is believed to have been built in the 8th century AD during the second Chera dynasty. Traces of Pallava style of architecture can be seen on the semi-finished sanctum sanctorum. Its upper segment was added later to shield the stone temple. The Lord Narasimhamoorthy temple situated in the temple complex is an example for the usage of the architectural concepts of the Pallava period in a Kerala temple. The ‘Namaskara Mandapam’ in front of the Sanctum of Lord Mahadeva is another marvel though distant from the Pallava Architecture. Appreciating the need to preserve the complex, the Archaeological Survey of India took over this temple a few decades ago. Nevertheless, day-to-day activities
