Ted Turner (born November 19, 1938) is an American media mogul and philanthropist. As a businessman, he is known as founder of the cable news network CNN, the first dedicated 24-hour cable news channel. In addition, he founded WTBS, which pioneered the superstation concept in cable television. As a philanthropist, he is known for his $1 billion gift to support UN causes, which created the United Nations Foundation, a public charity to broaden support for the UN. Turner's media empire began with his father's billboard business, which he took over at 24 after his father's suicide. Purchase of an Atlanta UHF station in 1970 began the Turner Broadcasting System. Turner turned the Atlanta Braves baseball team into a nationally popular franchise and launched the charitable Goodwill Games. Turner has also devoted his assets to environmental causes. He is the largest private landowner in the United States and uses much of it for ranches to re-popularize bison meat, amassing the largest herd in the world. Metalocalypse is an American animated television series, created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha, which premiered on August 6, 2006 on Adult Swim. The television program centers around the larger than life death metal band Dethklok and often portrays dark and macabre content, including such subjects as violence, death, and the drawbacks of fame, with extremely hyperbolic black humor and often gets a TV-MA V rating. The show can be seen as both a parody and celebration of heavy metal culture. The music is written by guitarist/creator Brendon Small, is credited to the band, and is featured in most of the episodes. The animation is often carefully synced to the music, with the chord positions and fingering of the guitar parts shown in some detail. The show has been picked up for a fourth season. For season four the show will be returning to the original 11 minute run-time. Season four is expected to air April 15, 2012, and will consist of 12 episodes.
