Purulia Sadar West subdivision is a subdivision of the Purulia district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Jhalda municipality and seven community development blocks: Jhalda–I, Jhalda–II, Jaipur, Arsha, Bagmundi, Balarampur and Barabazar. The seven blocks contain 59 gram panchayats and two census towns. The subdivision has its headquarters at Jhalda.

Area

Apart from the Jhalda municipality, the subdivision contains two census towns and rural areas of 59 gram panchayats under seven community development blocks: Jhalda–I, Jhalda–II, Jaipur, Arsha, Bagmundi, Balarampur and Barabazar.[1] The two census towns are: Balarampur and Barabazar.[2]

Blocks

Jhalda–I block

Rural area under Jhalda–I block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Ichag, Jhalda–Darda, Mathari–Khamar, Tulin, Ilu–Jargo, Kalma, Noyadih, Hensahatu, MarumOsina and Pusti.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Jhalda police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Mashina.[4]

Jhalda–II block

Rural area under Jhalda–II block consists of nine gram panchayats, viz. Bamniya–Belyadih, Chitmu, Nowahatu, Begunkodar, Hirapur Adardih, Rigid, Chekya, Majhidih and Tatuara.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Jhalda police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Kotsila.[4]

Jaipur block

Rural area under Joypur block consists of seven gram panchayats, viz. Baragram, Joypur, Ropo, Upankahan, Ghagra, Mukundapur and Sidhi–Jamra.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Jaipur police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Jaipur.[4]

Arsha block

Rural area under Arsha consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Arsha, Chatuhansa, Hensla, Puara, Beldih, Hetgugui, Mankiary and Sirkabad.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Arsha and Purulia Muffasil police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Sirkabad.[4]

Bagmundi block

Rural area under Bagmundi block consists of eight gram panchayats, viz. Ajodhya, Beergram, Matha, Sindri, Baghmundi, Burda–Kalimati, Serengdih and Tunturi–Suisa.[1] There is no urban area under this block.[2] Bagmundi police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Pathardihi.[4]

Balarampur block

Rural area under Balarampur block consists of seven gram panchayats, viz. Balarampur, Bela, Genrua, Tentlow, Baraurma, Darda and Ghatbera–Kerowa.[1] Urban area under this block consists of one census town: Balarampur.[2] Balarampur police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Basgarh.[4]

Barabazar block

Rural area under Barabazar block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Banjora, Berada, Latpada, Tumrasole, Bansbera, Bhagabandh, Sindri, Barabazar and Dhelatbamu Sukurhutu.[1] Urban area under this block consists of one census town: Barabazar.[2] Barabazar police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Barabhum.[4]

Legislative segments

As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal:[5]

  • The municipal area of Jhalda, the Jhalda–II block, the Baghmundi block and the gram panchayats of Hetgugui and Sirkabad under the Arsha block will together form the Baghmundi assembly constituency of West Bengal.
  • The Balarampur block and the gram panchayats of Chatu Hansa, Hetla and Puara under the Arsha block will be part of the Balarampur assembly constituency.
  • The Barabazar block will be part of the Bandwan assembly constituency.
  • The Jhalda–II block, the Jaipur block and the gram panchayats of Arsha, Beldih and Manikary under the Arsha block will together form the Joypur assembly constituency.
  • The Bandwan constituency will be reserved for Scheduled tribes (ST) candidates.
  • The constituencies of Baghmundi, Balarampur and Joypur will be assembly segments of the Purulia (Lok Sabha constituency).
  • The Bandwan constituency will be an assembly segment of the Jhargram (Lok Sabha constituency), which will be reserved for ST candidates.
