Allmusic 3/5 stars[1]
The Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide 4/5 stars[2]

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album three stars and said that it was an "enjoyable date...the arrangements by Sammy Nestico and Allyn Ferguson unfortunately do not leave much room for any of the Basie sidemen to solo, but Sassy is in superb form".[1]
