The Bachelor is an American dating reality television series created for ABC by Mike Fleiss. It was hosted by Chris Harrison for the first twenty-five seasons, former Bachelor Jesse Palmer returning to The Bachelor franchise as the host from season twenty-six. The series is produced by Next Entertainment and Warner Horizon Television, and revolves around a single bachelor who starts with a pool of romantic interests from whom he is expected to select a wife. During the course of the season, the bachelor eliminates candidates, culminating in a marriage proposal to his final selection. The participants travel to romantic and exotic locations for their adventures, and the conflicts in the series, both internal and external, stem from the elimination-style format of the show.

As of March 15, 2022, 240 episodes of The Bachelor have aired, including 12 specials, concluding the twenty-sixth season. On September 28, 2021, ABC renewed the series for a twenty-sixth season, which premiered in January 3, 2022. On May 13, 2022, ABC renewed the series for a twenty-seventh season.

The Bachelor: Season 9 (also known as The Bachelor: Rome) is the ninth season of ABC reality television series The Bachelor. The show was filmed in Rome, Italy. The season premiered on October 3, 2006. The show featured Italian American cosmetics entrepreneur, Prince Lorenzo Borghese, counting 25 women.

Traditionally the Bachelor chooses from an original cast of 25 bachelorettes, however this season show producers brought in two additional ladies who are local Italians bringing the total women to 27.

Erica Rose returned to compete in the second season of Bachelor Pad for 2011, finished in 9th/10th place and returned in the third season of Bachelor Pad the following year for a third time, finished in 12th place.

Episodes

Episode 1

The girls pull up in a limo as Lorenzo greets each one with a smile. The girls and Lorenzo talk all night and the show ends with a rose ceremony where Lorenzo sends home over half of the ladies.

Episode 2

The remaining 12 women are divided up into single and group dates. Lisa received the first single date with Lorenzo. The other girls go on a group date with Lorenzo. The show ends with a rose ceremony and 3 girls are eliminated.

Episode 3

The nine remaining Bachelorettes find out there's going to be a group date, a two-on-one date and a solo date with Lorenzo. Three ladies are eliminated at the rose ceremony.

Episode 4

There is one group date and two one-on-one dates in this episode. The women who get roses this week will also get a hometown visit to have Lorenzo meet their parents. Two ladies are eliminated at the rose ceremony.

Episode 5

Lorenzo proceeds to on the hometown dates with the bachelorettes. He meets the girl's families. Lorenzo eliminates one girl at the rose ceremony which leaves him with three girls for the remaining shows.

The winner

Jennifer Wilson was the eventual winner of "The Bachelor: Rome". As of the end of the show, Jennifer was a Glades Middle School teacher from Pembroke Pines. Jennifer graduated from Dade Christian School and the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in general studies.

After the show

Jennifer Wilson and Lorenzo Borghese broke up after a long-distance relationship where he was in New York while she was in South Florida. Lorenzo did not propose to Jennifer, but gave her the final rose. Jennifer Wilson was accused of secretly dating Dan Herrero, another teacher at the school she worked at, by The National Enquirer soon after the end of the show. The Enquirer included pictures of them "frolicking on the beach" together three days after the initial report. Lorenzo Borghese later began dating runner-up Sadie Murray. Erica Rose later appeared on season one of VH1's "You're Cut Off" and seasons 2 and 3 of Bachelor Pad.

The Bachelor: Season 10 (also known as The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman) is the tenth season of ABC reality television series The Bachelor. The show was filmed in Los Angeles, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania. The premiere of this season of The Bachelor aired on April 2, 2007. The show features the first US Navy Officer, physician and sportsman from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Andy Baldwin, counting 25 women, after the show Baldwin was chosen as the favorite bachelor in all the ten seasons.

About the winner

Tessa Horst grew up in Washington, D.C., where she graduated from Georgetown Day School in 1999 and Middlebury College in 2003. She received her MS degree in social work from Columbia University. Prior to entering graduate studies, Horst lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming in 2004, where she was employed at the famous Silver Dollar Bar of The Wort Hotel. At the time she competed on The Bachelor, she was employed as a social worker living in San Francisco.

Three months after the finale, Horst and Baldwin called off the engagement.

Controversy

Although the contestants are contractually obligated not to reveal the results of each round of elimination since the show is taped ahead of broadcast, various unsubstantiated media reports in advance of the final rose ceremony alleged that Horst revealed herself to be the winner. Horst later denied that she had been the source of this information. Some bachelorettes who were eliminated earlier in the series predicted Horst would be the successful recipient of the final rose.

Brad took two women to meet his family; his mom Shelley, his younger brother Wesley and his identical twin Chad. DeAnna was first to arrive at his door. He forewarned them that she's a strong independent woman from Atlanta, Georgia. Brad joked about having his future wife as an employee because she used to be a bartender when she was just college-aged. It went very well. His mom talked to her about family values, relationship values and her feelings for him. Shelly stated she could see that Brad really like DeAnna. He kept holding her waist and gazing at her. The brothers think she's a great catch. DeAnna felt awesome because Brad was just his old confident, playful self with his folks. They were hanging out by the pool fooling around. DeAnna revealed that they are kind, friendly, warm and put her at ease. After she left, the family discussed his situation while waiting for Jenni. DeAnna had made such a great impression that it's gonna be a high stake for Jenni to make them change their mind about whom they think would complement Brad.

Jenni arrived later. His mom asked her about where they are at, she admitted she hadn't dropped the L word yet. Not that she's scared to be vulnerable but she just wanted it to say it when the time felt right. She, too, felt stronger for him each day and wanted to be with him. She then went out to play catch with his brothers. They're both wonderful, eligible women. Brad told his mom that he thinks about DeAnna when he's with Jenni and vice versa. He loves them both. One possesses the appeal that the other didn't.

He tries to make up his mind. He felt slightly stronger for DeAnna. But in the end, when DeAnna really thought that they'll be in a monogamous relationship because she's the last one standing, he told her that he couldn't marry her. He had a reason that he sent Jenni home but he couldn't find a reason for DeAnna. He only told her that he wasn't sure if their relationship was going to last, he's not fully there with her. He was not that deeply into either of them.

He fell for 23-year-old Sarah Newlon more deeply than anybody else in the beginning but she was disqualified for not recognizing his twin brother. That incident made him think she isn't into him as much as he's into her and he was so hurt; he wasn't willing to compromise. Neither of these two ladies was the ultimate frontrunner. Both ladies went home heartbroken.

On the 'After The Final Rose" special, Jason and Melissa broke up after Jason admitted he was still in love with runner-up Molly. Jason then asked Molly for another chance, and they started a relationship. They became engaged in New Zealand that October (2009). They were married in February 2010 and began living in Washington state with Jason's son, Ty. They had a daughter, Riley. Melissa went on to married to Tye Strickland, with whom she had daughter Ava and son Beckett.

Future appearances

Jillian Harris was chosen as the bachelorette in the fifth season of The Bachelorette. Melissa Rycroft participated in the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars replacing an injured Nancy O'Dell and partnering with Tony Dovolani, finished in 3rd place. Natalie Getz and Nikki Kaapke competed for the first season of Bachelor Pad. Kaapke finished in 9th/11th, while Getz won the season alongside Bachelor Nation alumnus David Good. Rycroft would participate again for the all-star season of Dancing with the Stars and won that season.

There were no dates during the first week. Jason begins a new chapter for love in Los Angeles spending time with his brother Larry and son Ty before meeting 25 new contestants. Memorable moments of the ladies arriving at the mansion include: Lauren was the first contestant who got out of limo and tells Jason her birthday and age. Sharon shows Jason some salsa dance moves, Nikki asks Jason where his son is. Molly was the first lady got out of the fourth limo group and gives tips on playing golf, telling that she has excelled in golf. Shannon wears a funny fake dentures on her teeth in a hope that Jason will see her funny side.

Nikki receives a first impression rose, while in a twist Megan received the most votes from the other ladies as the "woman there for the wrong reasons and should leave" during a vote-off, but received instead a rose. Ann, Dominique, Emily, Jackie, Julie, Nicole, Renee, Shelby, Stacia, and Treasure were all eliminated in the first rose ceremony.

Week 2

Prologue/at the mansion: Lisa decided to voluntarily leave the show in order to be with her family due to her grandmother's ill health.

One-on-one date: Jillian. Jason meets her at the mansion and heads toward Downtown Los Angeles, they sought out a hot dog stand for Jillian's "hot dog topping test" laughed that Jason is a ketchup lover, but he chooses mustard. That evening, Jason surprises other ladies by hanging out with them the pool at the mansion. Jason get the group date rose but puts it out of sights so that everyone can remain focused on fun. And in the end, Jillian received the rose.

One-on-one date: Melissa. Melissa is chosen for the next One-on-one date. She travels to a park and they discuss her experience in cheerleading, being a former member of Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Her future goal is to be a school teacher and is passionate about having kids one day. They share a kiss. Later, they ride a Goodyear Blimp airship, a first for both of them, Melissa receives a rose.

Group: Natalie, Erica, Naomi, Nikki, Lauren, Kari, Sharon and Molly. They meet with Jason for shopping and buying clothes on a mall in Hollywood. Jason gives an impromptu talent show for the ladies on top of the hotel in Hollywood for the evening and Kari, Molly and Sharon give some synchronized swimming routines. Molly receives a rose.

Cocktail party: The ladies have one-on-one time with Jason. Megan and Stephanie had spent their time with him and developed a big bond because of loving their mothers. Megan got mad when Molly comes in to spend more time after Megan stole her heart with Jason.

Rose ceremony: Since Lisa had already eliminated herself earlier in that episode, Raquel, who never had a date, and Sharon were the only ones eliminated in the rose ceremony.

Week 3

Original airdate: January 19, 2009

One-on-one date: Stephanie. A limo takes her to meet Jason at the beach. She is single mother having lost her husband at a plane crash. That day was her daughter Sophia's Birthday, she had tried to call her earlier in the day but was unable to get a hold of her. She had said to the other ladies, "well, maybe I can talk to her later tonight" being upbeat about it. Jason meets Stephanie on the beach and distracts her as her daughter Sophia runs up behind her - Jason points her out at the last minute and Stephanie's face lights up with joy at seeing her daughter. She looks in disbelief at Jason, then runs to her daughter, catching her up in her arms and they hug and cuddle, with Jason looking on with tears in his eyes. Later Jason, Stephanie and Sophia go to Legoland California for the second part of the date, to celebrate Sophia's birthday. Jason gives two roses to Stephanie one a Lego-made rose and one a grown red rose.

Group: Erica, Jillian, Kari, Megan, Melissa, Naomi, Nikki, Shannon. They participate in an event for a breast cancer awareness group, which some ladies have cast their breasts and paint designs onto a mache cast for an auction. Jason casts himself also, having covered himself with a baby oil. Melissa told Jason that she had breast reduction surgery when she was younger, Jason asked Jillian talk seriously concerning marriage being one simple step and give the rose for the date to her.

One-on-one date: Natalie. She meets Jason and is given a necklace and bracelet with diamonds for a private jet ride to Las Vegas. They take a helicopter ride throughout the city. Natalie told Jason that she had a rough childhood depression, bears and belief, that she had been falsely stereotyped as being a party girl. They watched a private performance by Kate Voegele and an upset Natalie denied a kiss from Jason, she was sent home.

Cocktail party: Many of the girls are discussing Natalie and were glad that she was gone from the mansion. Jason asked Naomi and Nikki about the other girls in the house but they would not say anything bad about anyone. Jason asked Lauren and she gave information that Erica and Megan are "two drama queens of the house", Megan discovers that Lauren had stabbed her in the back was angry, and confronted Lauren about it. Jason over heard the conversation.

Rose ceremony: Erica and Kari were sent home in the rose ceremony.

Week 4

Original airdate: January 26, 2009

One-on-one date: Molly. Prior at the start of the date, Chris asked to the remaining ladies to write a love song for Jason and perform for him and the rest of the ladies. Molly impresses on her song pick for Jason and was chosen at one-on-one date in his place. They spent their time at a tent for a campfire. Molly receives a rose.

Group: Jillian, Lauren, Shannon, Megan, Melissa, Naomi. They were surprised with Jason and sending them to Studio City for a set of General Hospital and meet soap actors Bradford Anderson and Kirsten Storms, that they would be acting on a fantasy scene with Jason. Naomi got a kissing scene, irking Melissa's affection. They later take a post-scene party in Hollywood for a night of excitement. Naomi receives a rose.

Two-on-one date: Nikki and Stephanie. The two received their deliveries from Alberto Makali (a dress) and would go with them to a restaurant for a night out. Just as before eating, they received ballroom dance lessons. Stephanie, having had worked previously as dance instructor, and knew that she is good in dance. And for Nikki, dance is too rough and going to dwindle. Then, Nikki tells Jason about her previous relationship on her ex-boyfriend for 11 years and was too hard, she was sent home. Jason gave the rose to Stephanie.

Cocktail party: The remaining bachelorettes have many issues and some are emotional. Jason confronts Megan and felt that she had not received time with him, and Lauren also confronted as well on really want to give a rose during the group date.

Rose ceremony: Just as the roses were given to Melissa and Jillian, Jason has no idea that the two roses are to be given with the remaining ladies, he couldn't start out and telling to them, "I'm sorry, I can't do this. I can't give out this final rose." Lauren, Megan and Shannon were eliminated in the rose ceremony and left shocked.

Week 5

Prologue: Jason arrives home to his hometown in Kirkland and is greeted by his sister-in-law Leslie. Upon seeing his son Ty, he hugs him around.

Melissa and Naomi each had a one-on-one date, and Stephanie, Jillian and Molly had the only group date for this episode, but all of these dates with receiving no roses at the end. When Melissa is preparing a date with Jason and is to be scheduled for a helicopter ride at the above of Space Needle, Jason didn't want Ty around to leave him alone. Then, Jason changed his mind and takes a date to his house instead. Melissa is feeling privileged on saw Ty already sleeping, and she is wanting to bring him for a hometown date. Stephanie, Jillian and Molly have met with Jason for a "Best of Seattle" tour, including a boat tour which Stephanie steer up away, Jason brings the ladies to a radio station for an interview. Jason brings Naomi for a seaplane tour of Seattle and she is so happy on her first one-on-one, including a rock wall climb, plus a night with drinks by a fire. Naomi told Jason that her parents got divorced when she was 19, and was feeling devastated on her parents' lives. Stephanie was eliminated in the Rose Ceremony.

Jillian took Jason on her childhood home in Kelowna to visit her grandparents' home, then she accompanies him for a local winery after being sheltered for many years earlier because of her mother had diagnosed of sick depression. Later, Jason meets Jillian's immediate family including her father holding a Canadian flag that is going to wear on his back.

Next is Molly on her hometown in Grand Rapids, Michigan on a golf course in a local country club for a quick game. And they traveled to her parents' home to meet with her family and Jason surprised on seeing a "hat box" from Molly's mom, and she was given for to draw a picture of Molly. Then, Molly's dad give Jason a reaction that he called him "a good kid", meaning he is anxiously proud of her and she is giving an approval from her parents, Molly wants to purse on her romance with Jason.

Third is Naomi's hometown in Lake Elsinore for what is going to be an unconventional meeting. First, Naomi brings Jason to her mother's home for to meet her divorced parents, sister, half-sister and nieces and nephews. Telling that Naomi's worst fears are confirmed after her mother gave a eulogy with a dove struck on a wrecked car and plans to be bury it.

Last is Melissa's hometown in Dallas and she surprises him with a tooth fairy box that is to be given to Ty and he is very impressed. Even though Melissa is excited to introduce Jason to her parents, she revealed that they wouldn't be comfortable in the public eye and brings her friends instead, including their families to one of her friend's house. Jason is so disappointed on not meeting her family and wants to understand why. Then, Jason played a pool game with Melissa's friends, and this made the decision for him. Telling her that he was surprised on being given the information about Melissa's parents and them wanting nothing to do with the show.

Rose Ceremony: At the Rose Ceremony in Seattle, Jason had a wonderful time with the meetings of the hometowns of the perspective finalists, and has made a harder decision to eliminate one lady at the end of ceremony. He handed the roses to Molly, Jillian and Melissa, which means Naomi was eliminated and had an emotional breakdown. Afterwards, Jason announces the final three ladies to the land of the long white cloud, New Zealand.

After the Final Rose

During the "After the Final Rose" special, aired immediately after the season finale, Jason Mesnick told Chris Harrison that he felt the chemistry with Melissa changed and that he would break up with her and then ask Molly to give him another chance. Jason explained to Melissa how he was feeling. After some arguing, she then gave him his ring back, asked him to leave her alone, and left. During Chris' interview with Molly, she admitted she still loved Jason. Jason told Molly that he broke up with Melissa and that he hadn't been able to stop thinking about her. He asked her if they could have another shot and he admitted that he still loved her. She agreed to "see where things go."

On the "After the Final Rose: Part Two" episode, which was taped six weeks after the "After the Final Rose: Part One" episode, Jason and Molly stated that "things were going really well" and that this had been "the happiest they had been."

On the other hand, host Chris Harrison announced that Jillian became the next bachelorette for the fifth season of The Bachelorette and has insisted that the outcome was not manipulated by show producers to increase ratings.

Future appearances

After On the Wings of Love, Pavelka competed in the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars, partnered with Chelsie Hightower and finished in 7th place. Ali Fedotowsky was chosen as the bachelorette for the sixth season of The Bachelorette. Runner-up Tenley Molzahn, along with finalists Gia Allemand, Ashley Elmore, Elizabeth Kitt, Michelle Kujawa and Jessie Sulidis appeared in the inaugural season of Bachelor Pad. They finished individually in 14th/15th, 9th/11th, 5th/6th, 18th/19th and 16th/17th, while Molzahn finished as runner-up with Bachelor Nation alumni Kiptyn Locke. Pavelka and Allemand returned for the second season on Bachelor Pad with Vienna Girardi and Ella Nolan. They finished 13th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th, while Allemand quit in 16th place. Kujawa later returned in the first season of Bachelor in Paradise and quit the competition, finished in 25th place. Molzahn later returned in the second season of Bachelor in Paradise and finished as co-runner-up.

Week 1

There were no dates during the first week. Jake starts his quest for finding love in Los Angeles. Memorable moments include Ashley's stewardess costume. Jillian and Ed of The Bachelorette came to the mansion prior to the rose ceremony answering questions for the ladies. Tenley received the first impression rose and 10 ladies were sent home in the first rose ceremony.

Week 2

Original airdate: January 11, 2010

Group: Corrie, Christina, Valishia, Gia, Rozlyn, and Ashleigh. They took part in an InStyle magazine photo shoot. At the party, they were sent to Shangri-La Hotel in Santa Monica. Rozlyn receives a rose.

One-on-one: Ali. Jake takes her in a private airplane to Palm Springs and drives them to an open field having a dinner and dancing to music performed by Chicago. She receives a rose.

Group: Elizabeth (NE), Vienna, Ashley, Kathryn, and Jessie. The night before the date, Michelle threatened to leave the mansion since her name has not been on the date list, displaying bad behavior and she got very upset. The next day, they were taken to Six Flags Magic Mountain to have their fun at the amusement park. Elizabeth (NE) got a rose and watched fireworks with Jake.

Other developments: During in the middle of the cocktail party, Chris asks Rozlyn to talk outside. It was brought to Chris's attention that Rozlyn had an inappropriate relationship with one of the show's staffers and told her the staffer has been fired. The remainder of the cocktail party was cut short, ending during Jake's conversation with Christina. Rozlyn gives her rose back with only now two safe roses (Ali and Elizabeth (NE)). During "The Women Tell All" episode, she explained that she had trouble contacting her child and the staffer had supported her and allowed her to use his phone.

Week 3

Original airdate: January 18, 2010

One-on-one: Vienna. They take on a helicopter to San Gabriel Mountains for a bungee jump off the bridge. She receives a rose.

Group: Corrie, Elizabeth (NE), Ali, Jessie, Michelle, Ashleigh, Tenley and Kathryn. They visit the comedy club in Hollywood. Jon Lovitz is asked to perform for the Bachelorettes a stand up comedy routine. Michelle is eliminated before the date is over, Jake not agreeing that her behavior wasn't acceptable.

One-on-one: Ella. They go on a helicopter ride San Diego SeaWorld and she receives a pleasant surprise – her son, because Ella celebrated her birthday. Jake, Ella and her son spend the day together. She receives a rose.

Cocktail party: All of the ladies. Elizabeth (NE) backstabbed Vienna her see a rose being given during a 1 on 1 date.

Week 4

Original airdate: January 25, 2010

At the start of the episode, Chris Harrison tells the remaining ladies that they will be living in RV for their trip across the coast.

One-on-one: Gia. They are taken to a beautiful winery in Santa Ynez. She receives a rose.

Group: Corrie, Ali, Ashleigh, Jessie, Tenley and Vienna. They traveled to Pismo Beach for a wild day of dune buggying and sandsurfing. Jake talks Tenley about her relationship with her ex-husband and she receives the rose.

Two-on-one: Ella and Kathryn. They take travel to Big Sur for an outdoor dinner. Neither got a rose and both of them were sent home, this has been the first time in The Bachelor history that no one receives a rose during a two-on-one date.

Other developments: The rose ceremony's location at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga. Jake has a shocking difficult decision to eliminate only one person after already eliminated two people during a two-on-one date. Like the previous season, the Bachelorette eliminated two people at the rose ceremony instead of one with one rose taken away. As a result, the leading man eliminated Jessie and Ashleigh with Vienna given the last rose.

Week 5

Original airdate: February 1, 2010

One-on-one: Tenley. They went to Chinatown, and wrote messages on fortune cookies. Then, they had dinner at the top of Coit Tower. Tenley made it clear that she had traditional values about marriage and that she had only slept with her ex-husband. Tenley's previous marriage was obviously still affecting her during this date.

Two-on-one: Gia and Vienna. They went to Castello di Amorosa in Napa Valley for an overnight stay and they had dinner together. After they went to their separate rooms, Vienna snuck into Jake's room to spend some extra time with him.

One-on-one: Corrie. They went to Golden Gate Park and California Academy of Sciences. Jake discovered that Corrie was a virgin.

One-on-one: Ali. Since Ali was from San Francisco took charge and she showed him the entire city of San Francisco.

Week 6

At the turn of the dramatic events, there was no rose ceremony and Ali left the competition early so she would not lose her job.

Week 7

Original airdate: February 15, 2010

Jake spends a night in the 'fantasy suite' with each of the final three contestants. Presumably he has intercourse with each of them which may have made it difficult for viewers to maintain friendly feelings towards Jake (especially as he asks Gia to leave at the rose ceremony and Tenley had only ever slept with her ex-husband). Gia and Jake go to a groove on Saint Lucia streets, Tenley and Jake took a helicopter ride on overlooking the island and have a plunge. Vienna and Jake rode a ship famously from Pirates of the Caribbean film series. Before the rose ceremony, Ali received a phone call and asked Jake to give another chance with him and Jake declined the offer. At the rose ceremony, Jake gives the roses to Tenley and Vienna, eliminating Gia.

Week 8 (Finale)

Jake introduces Tenley and Vienna to his family at Jalousie Bay, they meet with Jake's parents, two brothers and sisters-in-law. Having only one last chance date to select one to be his wife. Jake's family likes Vienna, with his mom and sisters-in-law, both approving of Tenley and Vienna. Jake and Vienna frolicking the mud at the hot springs. While Jake and Tenley snorkeled on a charter boat. Jake comes on his decision: he selects Vienna and leaving Tenley heartbroken.

Post-show

After the Final Rose

This is the special episode which airs after every finale. In season 14's segment, Jake told Chris Harrison about Bachelor Pad, Ali was chosen as the next bachelorette in the sixth season of The Bachelorette. Jake and Vienna were seen in a public appearance as a couple, Jeffrey Osborne sang "On the Wings of Love" at the closing of the show.

In June 2010, several months after their engagement, it was announced that Jake and Vienna Girardi had split.

Death of Gia Allemand

On August 14, 2013, third-place contestant Gia Allemand died after a reported suicide attempt. Several contestants as well as Pavelka expressed their condolesces via Twitter, with Pavelka saying, "I am in complete shock and devastated to hear the news about Gia. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. And a very dear friend. My heart goes out to her family during this very difficult time. We have lost an angel today. I miss you Gia...".

Jake Pavelka

Jake Pavelka grew up in Denton, Texas, and attended University of North Texas and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In his free time, he takes dancing lessons, woodworking, and has fun flying acrobatic planes and he is also a former child actor. Pavelka is an airline pilot, and took his first flying lessons at 12 years old. He also became a certified flight instructor when he was 23 years old.

Pavelka became a member of an ABC reality show for the third time when he appeared as a celebrity contestant on the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars, partnered with Chelsie Hightower was the fifth competitor eliminated on April 27, 2010.

The season premiere aired on January 3, 2011. 38-year-old Brad Womack, who previously appeared as the Bachelor in season 11, where he rejected both of his final two women, returned as the Bachelor for this season, counting 30 women, unlike the 25 in previous seasons (made this the first Bachelor season to have 30 suitors and the second time in the franchise's history, season five of The Bachelorette was the first). Womack became the first bachelor on The Bachelor twice.

Filming and development

Casting and contestants

Casting began during On the Wings of Love. Potential candidates for this season including Womack, as well as Ty Brown and Chris Lambton from (Ali's season) season six of The Bachelorette. Both Brown and Lambton turned down the offer, Womack was selected as the next Bachelor and was announced during the live show of season eleven of Dancing with the Stars.

One of the season's contestants, Emily, was the fiancée of Ricky Hendrick.

Production

This season traveled to far-flung locales in Las Vegas, Nevada, Costa Rica, the British overseas territory of Anguilla and South Africa. With performances by Train and Seal.

Future appearances

Ashley Hebert was chosen as the bachelorette for the seventh season of The Bachelorette. Alli Travis, Jackie Gordon, Melissa Schreiber and Michelle Money returned for the second season of Bachelor Pad, where they finished in 17th/18th, 15th, 11th/12th and 3rd/4th individually. Shawntel Newton made an appearance in the sixteenth season of The Bachelor, and was eliminated by bachelor Ben Flajnik the night she arrived. Emily Maynard was later chosen as the bachelorette for 2012 in the eighth season of The Bachelorette. Money returned again for the first season of Bachelor in Paradise and won that season with Bachelor Nation alumnus Cody Sattler.

There were no dates during the first week. Brad meets with not just the normal 25, but 30 new contestants, unlike his first Bachelor appearance. Memorable arrivals including Chantal O., a divorcee, slapped him, Ashley S. brings her own baggage, Alli and Renee present a game of tug-of-war, Madison, shows a set of fake fangs through her tooth, Emily becomes emotional and knows that she is a coal miner's daughter. It was J's birthday and Britnee was retrieved from the limo. Ashley S. received the first impression rose. At the rose ceremony, Michelle received the rose and Chantal O. got the last rose. Before the start of the dates, Chris Harrison announces the ladies they will be heading to Las Vegas, Nevada to meet with Brad. One-on-one: Shawntel N. Brad and Shawntel N. went shopping during the day. During the night, both Shawntel N. and Brad went atop a roof to watch fireworks and have dinner. This is where Shawntel N. revealed her work as a funeral director. Group: Michelle, Alli, Britt, Chantal O., Lisa M., Marissa, Emily and Jackie. They went racecar driving. Emily had a particularly hard time with the date due to the association of racing with her deceased fiance, Ricky Hendrick. Ricky (the son of Rick Hendrick, the owner of the Hendrick Motorsports team) was a NASCAR driver who was killed, along with nine others in 2004 in a plane crash in Virginia. Emily received the rose on the group date. Two-on-one: Ashley H. and Ashley S. Both ladies got an opportunity to watch and practice for a performance in the Viva Elvis show in Las Vegas. They went horseriding and explored a cave full of bats and giant spiders. They later enjoyed dinner floating in the middle of the hot springs; however they didn't have the most intimate conversation. Chantal O's father has solemnly on approval with Brad and gets ready for falling in love with her. Ashley H.: Ashley H's hometown date started in her hometown of Madawaska, Maine where she grew up. Ashley invited Brad on her old workplace in a restaurant where she used to work as part-time and ordered fries with cheese and gravy. Afterwards, they take pictures on Canada–United States border signboard and it would be receive as a souvenir. Then, Brad meets Ashley's family including her sister which Brad is more likely as a friend. Shawntel N.: Shawntel N's hometown date started in Chico, California and gave a tour of the family's funeral home. Brad is look tense on the mausoleum, plus a crematorium with an auto-shut door, crypt room and an embalming room. He meets Shawntel's parents and her younger sisters. While on the discussion for a succession in the family's funeral home, Shawntel's dad is anxious on not giving up the funeral home business and wishes to marry Brad for move to Austin. Emily: Emily's hometown date started in Charlotte, North Carolina and is meeting with her daughter Ricki at the park. Brad is excited to meet Ricki for the first time, but she made herself very shy. Brad receives a present a kite for Ricki and uses it for flying. Emily and Ricki took Brad in her house and shows Ricki's dolls and beauty collection in her bedroom gave Brad for a tour. Emily takes Ricki for a night sleep and saying goodbye to Brad. Rose Ceremony: The ceremony took place in a hotel in New York City. Brad and the ladies take them into a sunny Mpumalanga in South Africa. Chantal O. and Brad's date take up for a safari adventure with a bunch of sleeping lions, herding elephants and hippos, plus a hangout on a picnic. Brad and Emily come down atop of a dirt road to kick their day, telling about Emily's daughter and wants to be a perfect match for him that would plan to start as a family. Later, they decide to have a fantasy suite willing that they have been falling in love together. Ashley H. and Brad ride over a helicopter into a trip to the exotic lands with an overview of Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve and landed through the top of God's Window at Drakensberg mountains and had to meet with locals. They have a bizarre conversation about Ashley's personal life that her ex-boyfriend got suicide, ending into a painful tears. At the Rose Ceremony, Brad watches the ladies' videos in the TV screen made a bit passion and decides one of them would be going home. He had to take Ashley H. for a moment which was a very shocked and has to leave home. Emily and Chantal O. were safe.

There were no dates during the first week. Ben begins his quest for love in Los Angeles, where he meets 25 new bachelorettes. Memorable moments at the ladies arriving in the mansion, Sheryl, the 72-year-old retiree from Colorado came to escort her granddaughter Brittney to the mansion, and she is not an actual contestant. Emily getting sanitized along her and Ben's hands and got her first kiss with Ben. Samantha is impressed on wearing a pageant sash. Notably, Lindzi C., rode on a horse to meet the leading man. Ben got blindfolded over Dianna's candy taste and fits Holly's big hat. Monica takes a heated argument over Jenna and makes her impression with Blakeley. At the start of the rose ceremony, Jenna was not there, her name was not called and was sobbing in the bathroom. She made it just few minutes late. Ben later gave Lindzi C. the first impression rose. Amber B., Amber T., Anna, Dianna, Holly, Lyndsie J., and Shira were sent home at the first rose ceremony.

One-on-one: Kacie B. Kacie B. and Ben drive around the city, and Kacie B. shows off her baton twirling skills. The two then travel to Sebastiani Theatre to watch their personal home videos, including footage of Ben's childhood years and a picture of his family that includes his late father. Kacie B. gets the rose.

Group: Brittney, Rachel, Jennifer, Blakeley, Emily, Jenna, Shawn, Monica, Jamie, Samantha, Nicki and Jaclyn. The girls take part in a theatrical play for children in Sonoma. Some of the ladies have issues with Blakeley's outfit selection, believing it to be too sexy for a children's play. After the play, Blakeley plays a confident game in an attempt to impress Ben. Blakeley gets the rose.

One-on-one: Courtney. Courtney and Ben, along with Ben's dog Scotch, go for a walk in the woods for a natural date. Courtney tells Ben that she has dated Jesse Metcalfe during dinner. Courtney gets the rose.

Cocktail party: Blakeley leaves the party, feeling targeted by the other women, and cries in the luggage room. Jenna begins crying and has a bit of a meltdown. Later, Ben comforts Blakeley in the luggage room, and has to wake up Jenna before they can start the rose ceremony.

Rose ceremony: Jenna and Shawn are sent home in the rose ceremony, with only sixteen ladies left in the competition.

Week 3

Original airdate: January 16, 2012

Prologue: Ben meets with his sister Julia to talk about the women. Ben humorously suggests that Jennifer is the best kisser.

One-on-one: Emily. They climb to the top of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge and kiss over the bridge. Emily gets the rose and the two watch a fireworks show.

Group: Blakeley, Jaclyn, Kacie B., Erika, Samantha, Monica, Nicki, Casey S., Elyse, Jamie, Rachel. The women ski down a blocked-off street on fake snow, wearing bikinis. Some ladies struggle while skiing, and Kacie B. skis backwards. Ben gives the rose to Rachel.

One-on-one: Lindzi C. The night before the date, Brittney was scheduled to have a one-on-one date with Ben. Upon receiving the date card, Brittney realizes her uncertainty about her feelings for Ben, and she decides to leave the competition. Brittney informs Ben while he is on the Group date. The next day, Ben had unexpectedly changing the date to Lindzi C. That evening, Lindzi C. and Ben ride a trolley car around the city, making a stop for ice cream cones and ending at San Francisco City Hall. They dance on a ballroom floor while Matt Nathanson performs on the stage. Lindzi C. tells Ben that her previous relationship ended when she was sent a break up text. Lindzi C. gets the rose.

Months later in "The Women Tell All" special, Brittney reveals that she felt no attraction to Ben and had given up on the date.

Cocktail party: An unexpected "visitor" arrives to crash the cocktail party, revealed to be Shawntel N., who had previously competed on Brad's second season. Shawntel N. asks to return to the show in order to declare her love for Ben, whom she had previously met at a Bachelor cocktail party. After the women harshly attack Shawntel N.'s desire to return, Ben does not give her a rose, stating it would be unfair to the rest of the women. Shawntel N. is disappointed in his decision.

Rose ceremony: After Ben gives out the last rose, Erika suffers a fainting attack, but recovers. Ben's final decision is to not give the last rose to either Erika, Jaclyn, or Shawntel N. and all three are eliminated immediately. Ben declares to the final thirteen ladies that they are all traveling to Utah.

Later in "The Women Tell All" special, Shawntel N. returns to face Ben and to talk about her decision to join the show. Elyse apologizes to Shawntel N. for her harsh words and insults.

Week 4

Original airdate: January 23, 2012

• Located in: Park City, Utah

One-on-one: Rachel. The two take a helicopter to a lake, for a canoe ride and a picnic. They kiss, but only have average chemistry. At dinner that night, and Rachel tells Ben about her previous relationship and how she is trying to be open with him. Rachel receives the rose.

Group: Courtney, Lindzi C., Jamie, Nicki, Kacie B., Blakeley, Casey S., and Samantha. They travel to a range horseback trail and ride on horseback to a river for fly fishing, to catch their lunch. Ben is a good fly fisherman. At the end, Ben gives the rose to Courtney.

One-on-one: Jennifer. They rappel 300 feet (91 m) into a crater and swim in the water below. They ride on a chairlift and attend a Clay Walker concert. Jennifer receives the rose.

Cocktail party: Emily approaches Ben to tell him she does not believe Courtney is there for the right reasons. Emily later tells the other women about her conversation with Ben, including Casey S., who objects to Emily's opinion. (Casey S. is Courtney's only confidante in the house, and defends her through the entire season.) Casey S. tells Courtney about Emily's conversation with Ben. This leads to a confrontation prior to the rose ceremony between Courtney, Emily, Casey S., and Kacie B. Meanwhile, Ben asks Samantha to leave, stating that he doesn't see a future for them together.

Rose ceremony: Ben expresses his feelings with the other ladies. Emily and Monica are the bottom two. Monica is sent home. Ben announces to the remaining ladies that they are leaving the United States mainland to visit Puerto Rico, one of the U.S. territories in the Caribbean.

Week 5

Original airdate: January 30, 2012

One-on-one: Nicki. While the date card received at the house and written in Spanish, Emily understood the language and translated it to English. They took a helicopter tour and planned to walk on the streets of Old San Juan where Ben bought her a shaved ice, but it started raining. Once the rain stopped, they went shopping for new clothes and watched a wedding. Since Nicki is divorced, she told Ben about her previous marriage, and received a rose.

Group: Blakely, Casey S., Courtney, Emily, Jamie, Jennifer, Kacie B., Lindzi C., and Rachel. They went to Roberto Clemente Stadium in Carolina to play baseball with Ben. The girls were divided into two teams of 4 and Ben picked Lindzi C. to play on both teams. Blakeley and Courtney were named captains for each team, Blakeley picked Emily, Jennifer and Rachel for the Blue team, while Courtney picked Kacie B., Casey S., and Jamie for the Red team. After 5 innings, the red team had won 10-9. The winning team and Lindzi C. got to continue for the date, while the losing team were sent back to the hotel. In the end, Ben gave the rose to Kacie B.

One-on-one: Elyse. They spent their afternoon on a private yacht and went swimming in the ocean. She told Ben about her plans, quitting her job and missing her best friend's wedding, Elyse did not receive a rose from Ben and was sent home.

Following his date with Elyse, Courtney surprised Ben at the hotel with wine and invited him to go skinny dipping (has been notably seen in the promos) in the ocean. He accepted Courtney's invitation.

Cocktail party: Emily apologized to Ben for voicing her opinions about Courtney during the previous rose ceremony, but then she continued to talk about her, and Ben told her that she should be careful. Then, the other ladies have discussed on debating about the skinny dipping situation and Courtney isn't the only one to skinny dip, they did.

Rose ceremony: The cocktail party was over and Ben starts the rose ceremony for the ladies. Jennifer was sent home in the rose ceremony, leaving devastated and cried. Later, Ben and the nine ladies to travel to Panama City, Panama.

Week 6

Original airdate: February 6, 2012

• Located in: Panama City, Panama

One-on-one: Kacie B. She and Ben took a helicopter to San Blas Islands and each was told to bring only three items with them. Kacie B. picked a corkscrew, a stuffed animal and a candy; Ben brought a machete, fishing net and matches. Ben talked to Kacie B. about her past, telling him she had an eating disorder while she was in high school, had suffered bulimia and anorexia. Kacie B. got the rose for the third time.

Group: Emily, Nicki, Lindzi C., Casey S., Jamie and Courtney. Ben took them on a speedboat to Embera village, where the women assist them in applying tattoos. The women of the village wear ornate beaded necklaces at tops, but most of the women elect to keep their bathing suit tops on under the beads. Courtney was the only woman who did not wear a top and ended up exposing her breasts to Ben and the women. That night, Ben and Lindzi C. have no drama and she gets worried. Then, Jamie makes a speech to Ben, and he is concerned that she has not shown her feelings yet. Meanwhile, Courtney sabotages Jamie's kiss with Ben by prancing around in her bathing suit and distracting him. Emily finally apologizes to Courtney for the remarks she made about her the previous week. Courtney does not accept the apology and states that she is not there to make friends. In the end, Ben gave the rose to Lindzi C.

Two-on-one: Blakeley and Rachel. They go Salsa dancing. Blakeley tries to use her sex appeal to win over Ben, Rachel however was great at dancing. Then, they go to dinner in a restaurant. Blakeley shows Ben a scrapbook she had made of their time together with his name written on it and cut-out pictures. Rachel received the rose and in the end, Blakeley was sent home.

Chris arrived to the hotel after all the dates had end, he sees Casey S. and have to talk about her on-and-off boyfriend; it was revealed by multiple people back in the U.S., and discovered that Casey S. and her boyfriend are still together. When Chris and Casey S. went to Ben's room, she talked with Ben about her relationship with her boyfriend. After the dramatic conversation, she was sent home.

Cocktail party: The cocktail party was shortened because of Casey S.' unexpected exit. Though Jamie tried to make a connection with Ben by guiding him through a play-by-play of their kiss, it ended awkwardly.

Rose ceremony: After a short cocktail party, Ben has time to do a ceremony which six roses to stay to become his wife. Ben sent another lady home: Jamie, due to the lack of chemistry Ben felt between them. Afterwards, the six remaining ladies travel to Belize.

Week 7

Original airdate: February 13, 2012

• Located in: Belize

One-on-one: Lindzi C. She and Ben take a helicopter ride to a famous reef circle and jump out, despite the fact that Lindzi C. is afraid of heights. After dinner that night, they write a love story about themselves on a note and send it out to sea in a bottle.

One-on-one: Emily. She flew to Caye Caulker to meet Ben. They ride bikes through town, go shopping and lobster fishing, which is what they eat for dinner. Emily makes a speech about their day and her excitement about possibly bringing Ben to her hometown.

One-on-one: Courtney. Ben apologizes to Courtney for not giving her a one-on-one sooner. They traveled to the Mayan ruins of Lamanai and rest on the steps of the temple where Courtney says she may have "lost the spark" between them and that she is apprehensive about having him meet her family. Then at dinner, the two have a talk about her trouble with the other women and her disdain for them. Ben becomes worried about Courtney not getting along with the ladies and that he may end up with a woman that none of his friends like.

Group: Rachel, Nicki and Kacie B. They go swimming with sharks. Rachel becomes worried about getting the rose on this date. Kacie B. tells Ben that she is falling in love with him and expresses how much she wants him to meet her family. She receives the group date rose.

Rose ceremony: There is no cocktail party for this week. Before starting the rose ceremony, Ben pulls Courtney aside to talk to her about her intentions and how she is not there to make friends. Courtney says she does not want him to question her intentions and that she is exclusively there for him. Despite the other bachelorettes' hope that Ben will send Courtney home, Ben gives the last rose to her, eliminating Emily and Rachel. Ben will now travel to the families of Courtney, Kacie B., Lindzi C. and Nicki.

Months later, Courtney showed up on "The Women Tell All" special, making this was the first time that one of the final two appeared in the special episode. While interviewed from Chris, Blakeley confronted Courtney and told her she was hurt when Courtney called her a "stripper". Courtney talks about not accepting Emily's apology, and later apologizes to the bachelorettes, especially Kacie B.

Week 8

Lindzi C.: Lindzi C.'s hometown date took place at her family's ranch in Ocala, Florida. Ben and Lindzi went horseback riding. Later, Lindzi's mum tells Ben that she got married at San Francisco City Hall, where Ben and Lindzi had their first date. Ben felt a connection with Lindzi's dad. The night ended with Lindzi expressing her love for Ben.

Kacie B.: Kacie B.'s hometown date started in Clarksville, Tennessee. Ben arrived at a field to meet Kacie B which was named after her grandfather, Buster Boguskie. She did baton twirling with a high school cheering squad. Kacie B. told Ben about her excitement on meeting her family. Upon arrival in her home, Ben meets her father, mother and sister. Kacie B.'s father doesn't like wines and he is a probation officer. Later, her father asked Ben about his intention with his daughter but didn't seem to approve of the relationship because they don't believe in living together before marriage. Her mother didn't like the idea of Kacie B moving to California.

Nicki: Nicki's hometown date started in Fort Worth, Texas, where Ben met her for some shopping in Downtown Fort Worth to buy a pair of cowboy boots and cowboy hats. Ben meets Nicki's parents and her brother. Nicki isn't the only divorced lady, her parents also divorced when she was small. Her father told Ben he gave his support.

Courtney: Courtney's hometown date started in Scottsdale, Arizona where she grew up. Ben took Courtney to her house and met her parents and her sister. Courtney talks to her sister about skinny dipping with Ben in Puerto Rico. Afterwards, Ben and Courtney traveled to a park where they staged a faux wedding ceremony.

Rose Ceremony: The Rose Ceremony took place in Los Angeles Ben was emotional, based on knowledge having visited the folks, as all the fathers had expressed they didn't want their daughters hurt and hoped his intentions would be honourable. Courtney received the first rose, followed by Lindzi, leaving Kacie B. and Nicki in the bottom two. In the end, Ben handed Nicki the last rose, eliminating Kacie B. Ben announced to the three final ladies they were off to Switzerland.

Week 9

Overnight Dates

Ben and his three remaining suitors traveled to Interlaken, Switzerland to begin their dates.

Nicki: She and Ben traveled in a helicopter ride to a glacier. They had talked about her father and how he reminds Ben of his own late father, and hugged together on a mountain top.

Lindzi : She and Ben had a vertical leap jump above the air and rappelled down 300 feet (91 m) ledge. Their conversation is all about Lindzi' s former boyfriend and their bad relationship.

Courtney: She and Ben board their train to Wengen and went shopping for a picnic. They talked about her issues with other girls in the competition and that it's all in the past now. Later, they travelled to a wine cellar and she discussed her feelings about the other girls.

Then, a surprise visitor arrives: Kacie B, who warns Ben about Courtney and to get closure as to why he didn't chose her in the Rose Ceremony as they had a 'real connection'.

Rose ceremony: Unlike previous seasons, there are no personal videos from these women were made. Ben has deep feelings for the Final 3 ladies. Ben gave the roses to Lindzi and Courtney, and Nicki was eliminated. Ben and the two ladies will meet his mother and sister.

Week 10 (Finale)

Final Dates and Final Rose Ceremony

Ben was finally going to introduce his two final ladies to meet his mother, Barbara, and his sister, Julia in Zermatt. Before the first introduction began, Ben admitted to his family that Courtney had been the girl who hadn't gotten along with the other women. Both his mother and Julia expressed concern about Courtney's behavior and her profession as a model. Lindzi C. came in first to meet the family and talked with his mother about a "magic ingredient". During her conversation with Julia, Lindzi C. was asked about Courtney and her problems with the other women. The meeting went over very well and Julia said that Lindzi C. was very likely the person she would choose for Ben. Courtney met the family next and promised that she would be on her best behavior and that she was going to be honest with the family, if Ben would pick her. Despite initial concern, both Ben's mother and Julia were impressed by how kind Courtney was and said that of the two women left, Courtney was most likely what Ben was looking for in a wife.

Lindzi C.: Ben's final date with her began on a horse-drawn carriage ride, shared a picnic in the gondola and went skiing in the Swiss Alps. During the dinner portion of the date, Lindzi C. admitted that she loved him.

Courtney: Ben's last date with her began with a helicopter ride to Matterhorn and sledding down the mountain. Courtney said that she is now in love with Ben and talks about her trust issues with men. Later, Courtney gave Ben a scrapbook and reveals a photo album, then writes another love letter to him.

Final rose ceremony: The proposal time has to come and Ben has to start his new life as an engaged man. Lindzi C. came in first and was rejected, Ben told her that he is "already in love with someone". When Courtney came, Ben proposed to her and gave her the last rose, which she accepted.

Post-show

After the Final Rose

In this special episode immediately following the finale, host Chris Harrison recapped Ben's journey as the bachelor. Ben first talked about feeling shocked by Courtney's behavior on the show, admitting that it was the reason why he and Courtney went for days without talking. He also addressed the allegations of cheating in the tabloids, stating they were all false. Courtney was summoned next, and talked about her relationship with Ben. She expressed feeling hurt about their breakup, which occurred a week before Valentine's Day, but admitted feeling responsible for the problems they endured. After their reunion, the couple stated they are taking steps to fix their relationship, and are still together. Chris then presented the engagement ring to Ben, which Ben returned to Courtney to renew their engagement. Later, Season 7's bachelorette Ashley and fiancé J.P. Rosenbaum discussed their future plans, including their wedding and having children.

Months later, Ben and Courtney confirmed on a magazine that they had broken up for the second time for good. He is now dating Stephanie Winn.

The seventeenth season of The Bachelor premiered on January 7, 2013. This season features 28-year-old Sean Lowe, a former Kansas State football player from McKinney, Texas. Lowe placed third as a contestant during the eighth season of The Bachelorette with Emily Maynard.

Filming and development

Casting

Casting began during the airing of the sixteenth season of the show. First "The Bachelor" approached Tim Tebow, then-quarterback of the Denver Broncos; but he never signed an agreement. Lamar Hurd, a sportscaster from Portland, Oregon, had been another potential candidate, vying to become the first African-American "Bachelor." Other rumored possible candidates included The Bachelorette season 6 winner Roberto Martinez, Lowe's fellow The Bachelorette castmate Arie Luyendyk, Jr. (runner-up from Maynard's season), and eleven-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte. Luyendyk dropped out to focus on his racing career. Martinez and Lochte also declined.

Production

This season traveled many places including Montana, the Canadian province of Alberta, St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands and Thailand. Appearances including Ben Taylor, Eli Young Band and Sarah Darling.

In addition to 25 other women, Kacie Boguskie, 25 and from Clarksville, Tennessee, competes this season. Boguskie competed in Ben Flanjnik's season 16 of The Bachelor and finished fourth. Boguskie had met and befriended Lowe outside of the show and host Chris Harrison invited her back for a shot via a meet-and-greet with the bachelor—after the 25 ladies arrived at the mansion.

Future appearances

Lowe went on to compete on the sixteenth season of Dancing with the Stars as the 12th and final celebrity chosen partnering with Peta Murgatroyd, he finished 6th. Fourth place finalist Desiree Hartsock later was chosen as the star of season nine The Bachelorette. AshLee Frazier, Daniella McBride, Jackie Parr and Sarah Herron were returned for the inaugural season of Bachelor in Paradise. McBride, finished 24th, while Frazier and Parr also finished 7th/12th individually and Herron ended in 5th/6th.

One-on-one date: Sarah. Sean meets her at the mansion and, going outside, heads towards a helicopter which whisks them away. They arrive at the top of a Los Angeles skyscraper for a free fall via ropes, from the roof down 360 feet to the base where champagne awaits. Although Sarah had been born without a left forearm and hand, she overcomes the pressure and takes the leap of faith with Sean. That evening Sarah tells Sean that she intended to try a zip-line in Las Vegas, but couldn't because the rules would not allow her to participate with her "disability." She receives a rose. Group date: Amanda, Brooke, Catherine, Daniella, Diana, Kacie B., Katie, Kristy, Lesley M., Robyn, Selma, Taryn, Tierra. The women travel to a mansion and meet Sean. Professionals take care of attire and makeup for various groupings of photo shoots for a romance novel. Sean becomes nearly shirtless, Lesley touches his abs and looks very seducing. In a vampire outfit, Amanda expresses her feelings with Sean. Kristy, who has experience in modeling, wins a three-book deal for Harlequin covers from the photo shoot. Kacie B. talks to Katie about opening up and her possible decision to leave the competition; Katie has anxiety and a meltdown, then decides to leave the show. Sean gives Kacie B. a rose. One-on-one: Lesley M. Sean picks up Lesley and they head to Hollywood and arrive at the Guinness World Record's Museum. They see a "longest on-screen kiss" stand outside and begin to set a record for the world's longest on-screen kiss on a stage along with a cheering audience. Their kiss lasts for three minutes and fifteen seconds, which gave them the record of longest on-screen kiss. That evening, they have a toast above on a penthouse lounge. At the end, Lesley M. received a rose. Group: Amanda, Catherine, Daniella, Desiree, Jackie, Kacie B., Kristy, Leslie H., Lindsay, Robyn, Taryn, Tierra. They meet with Sean for a game of beach volleyball. They split into two groups of six, the first group are Catherine, Daniella, Kristy, Leslie H., Taryn and Tierra and known them as the red team, while the second group are Amanda, Des, Jackie, Kacie B., Lindsay and Robyn and also known them as the blue team. The blue team won the match and then proceed to Sean's "Bachelor Pad" place for a little party. While the red team lost and sent back to the mansion, several ladies cried on devastating defeat, including Kristy. Amanda is very serious for her feelings with Sean. In the end, Sean gives the rose to Lindsay. One-on-one: AshLee F. While Tierra reads the date card, she jokes that Selma is on the date and this upsets some of the girls like AshLee F. and Sarah. Just before the start of the date, Tierra falls down the stairs and supposedly hits her head. Sean comes to the mansion to pick up Ashlee F. and sees the aftermath of the fall. When the ambulance and paramedics arrive, she puts a neck brace but then takes it off and will not let them take her to the hospital. Sean talks with Tierra while Ashlee F. waits for him to go on their date. Finally, AshLee and Sean arrive at Six Flags Magic Mountain for a fun ride, they invite two girls suffered from chronic illness. After the park closes, they receive a private performance from Eli Young Band. AshLee F. reveals to Sean that she had a difficult childhood until the age of six when she was adopted. At the end of the date, she receives a rose. Cocktail party: Sean talks to Sarah and focuses on her disability. Later, he brings her dog to play at the mansion. Tierra isn't emotional on what happened with the fall, she wants to leave and Desiree interrupted Tierra's conversation. Rose ceremony: Before the rose ceremony starts, Sean asks Kacie B. for a quick private conversation, he tells her that they are better of just being friends and sends her home. Kristy and Taryn were also sent home in the rose ceremony. Thirteen ladies remain and the journey continues.

One-on-one: Selma. Sean takes Selma on a private plane to Joshua Tree National Park to go rock climbing. Selma was surprised that he took "the Iraqi to the desert", when she was expecting to go somewhere glamorous. Afterward, they go to a "country glam" trailer park, where Sean reveals he has only had one serious relationship since he graduated from college, and he broke it off because he couldn't see himself marrying the woman. Selma tells Sean she cannot kiss Sean because it goes against her Muslim culture, and she doesn't want to disrespect her family. Sean respects Selma's wishes, and he gives her a rose. Group: Amanda, AshLee F., Catherine, Jackie, Lindsay, Robyn, Sarah, Tierra. The girls go to a roller derby, where Amanda lies to the rest of the girls, saying she has done a roller derby before. She later falls and hits her chin on the ground, and she has to be taken to the hospital. Sarah struggles with her balance due to her disability, but Sean encourages her to only do what makes her comfortable. After Amanda's accident, Sean cancels the roller derby competition. He and the rest of the ladies skate freely instead. The girls and Sean spend the night relaxing outside, where an argument between Tierra and Robyn causes Tierra to contemplate going home. In retaliation, Sean gives her the rose to show how much he wants her there, leaving the rest of the girls infuriated. One-on-one: Leslie H. Sean and Leslie embark on a "Pretty Woman"-esque date, where they go shopping on Rodeo Drive, and Leslie leaves with a dress, shoes, purse and diamond earrings. To top off the ensemble, Sean and Leslie visit a Neil Lane jewelry store, where Mr. Lane himself gives Leslie a 120-carot diamond necklace. They go to dinner, where Leslie and Sean discuss past relationships. Leslie also reveals the impact of her parents' divorce on her love life. Sean decides that he does not have a romantic connection with Leslie as he hoped, and he sends her home. Cocktail party: Tierra confronts Robyn and Jackie, "apologizing" for her actions during the group date. She decides to be fake in order to avoid Sean hearing negative things about her from other girls. Sean believes Tierra has a good heart and accepts that she needs more reassurance than other girls. Rose ceremony: Because Leslie H. was sent home during her one-on-one date, only one girl leaves. Amanda leaves during the rose ceremony, leaving eleven girls to continue to find love with Sean.

Chris Harrison announced the ladies that will be going to Whitefish, Montana to meet with Sean. One-on-one: Lindsay. Sean takes Lindsay for a helicopter ride overlooking a mountainous glacier near Glacier National Park which culminates in an outdoor picnic activity at Blackfeet Indian Reservation. Lindsay tells Sean she spent much of her childhood in different countries because her dad is a general in the United States Army. Following the picnic, they decided to take in a Sarah Darling concert downtown with thousands of the town's residents cheering them on. Lindsay receives a rose at the end of the date. Group: AshLee, Catherine, Daniella, Desiree, Lesley M., Robyn, Sarah, Selma. They proceed by bus to the park to have a relay race there and they split into two teams of four. The blue group was made up of AshLee, Catherine, Daniella and Lesley, while the red group consisted of Desiree, Robyn, Sarah and Selma. The girls had to race in a canoe, carry barrels of hay, saw a log and milk a goat, with one girl drinking the goat milk to win the race. Des drank the milk, and the red team won. Sean felt bad about sending the blue team home, and he invited them to come back later in the night. Tierra unexpectedly showed up on the group date to tell Sean she was concerned about her impending two-on-one date with him the next day. In the end, Daniella received a rose, leaving the girls on the red team angry that Sean invited the other girls back in the first place. Two-on-one: Jackie and Tierra. The two women met with Sean for a horseback ride across a wilderness. Sean spends time alone with Jackie, who warns Sean of Tierra's dangerous personality. Tierra tells Sean she was in a 5-year relationship with an addict who then died, stating this event as a reason for her strong personality. Sean gave the rose to Tierra for a second straight time, and Jackie was sent home. Sean and Tierra ended the night with a firework show. Cocktail party: Robyn and Lesley confront Tierra regarding her negative personality, which leaves Tierra with a sour taste in her mouth. Des doubts her feelings for Sean due to his interest in Tierra. Sean senses tension among the ladies, and he asks Lesley why the girls don't like Tierra, leaving him unsure if finding love on the show is possible. Rose ceremony: Although Jackie was already sent home during two-on-one date, Robyn was eliminated during that ceremony. The nine remaining ladies continued their quest for love with Sean.

Sean and the ladies headed to Lake Louise, Alberta in Canada. One-on-one: Catherine. Sean picks up Catherine in a Snowcoach on the Athabasca Glacier in Jasper National Park, and they spend the day playing in the snow. Catherine reveals that her friend died in a freak accident right in front of her when they were both twelve years old which makes her value life. Sean and Catherine then travel to the Lake Louise ice palace, where Sean gives her a rose. Group: AshLee F., Daniella, Lesley M., Lindsay, Sarah, Selma, Tierra. The girls and Sean canoe across Lake Louise. Everyone is upset when Lesley jumps into Sean's canoe. Sean invites the girls to do the "Polar Bear Plunge" with him; where they have to jump into the icy lake water and be completely submerged before they can come out. Selma refuses to go in, which disappointes Sean. The rest of the girls complete the dive, with Tierra suffering from hypothermia upon resurfacing from the water. She is treated by a paramedic and told to stay in her hotel room to rest. Not one for following orders, Tierra makes an entrance at the group date dinner later in the evening. However, Sean gives Lesley the rose. Later that day, Sean pulls Sarah aside to tell her that he does not think that she is the one for him, and that he didn't want to wait until the rose ceremony to tell her. Sarah then leaves, shocking the other girls. One-on-one: Desiree. Sean takes Des to Banff National Park where they have to rappel down a hillside in the Canadian Rockies in order to reach their picnic destination on Tunnel Mountain. They have dinner in a tepee. Des tells Sean that she grew up with little money, and he finds himself wanting to be the man that supports Des for the rest of her life. Sean gives Des a rose at the end of the date. Cocktail Party: AshLee tells Sean she is afraid of not being in control, and lets him blindfolds her as a trust exercise. Sean witnesses Tierra acting out to other girls, but she quickly tries to calm down the situation. Rose Ceremony: Although Sarah was already sent home following after the group date earlier this episode, Sean sent two more ladies home: Daniella, who never got a one-on-one date, and Selma, who finally kissed Sean on camera in this episode despite her family beliefs. Six girls are left in their quest for love with Sean continues at Saint Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, an American insular area.

One-on-one: AshLee. Sean and AshLee went out on the beach and jumped off a catamaran to reach a private island for the two. When they were on the beach, Sean asked about the drama in the house. AshLee explained that Tierra's rudeness was causing a stir in the house. AshLee then told Sean over dinner that she was married at 17 and divorced at 18 while she was dealing with being in a broken home. One-on-one: Tierra. Tierra was presented with her one-on-one date card and immediately began complaining about walking around and having bugs bite her. She preferred a tropical date with a beach setting. They walked through the city and went shopping in the town. After some fun and buying two snow cones, they sat and talked. After the conversation, Tierra felt like Sean was a little distant from her. Group: Desiree, Lindsay, and Catherine. Sean woke the girls up at dawn, and they left the house very early and travelled to Point Udall, which is the easternmost point in the United States, to be the first people in the US to see the sun rise that day. They then went on a trip across the island of St. Croix in a Jeep Wrangler, visiting several local sites along the way. They ended up on the beach at the westernmost point on the island (to be the last people on St. Croix to see the sun set that day). Catherine talked to Sean about her past when her father attempted suicide when she was 14 years old. After his conversations with the three ladies, Sean gave Lindsay the rose. One-on-one: Lesley. Sean and Lesley walked through sugar plantation ruins at Estate Mount Washington Plantation. Sean was hoping that Lesley would open up to him, but she seemed distant throughout the date. Sean realized that it took Lesley longer than other girls to warm up to him, but he was worried that it was too little too late. On the day of the rose ceremony, Tierra and AshLee got into a huge argument because AshLee talked about Tierra on her date with Sean. Sean's sister, Shay, came to St. Croix. Sean wanted Shay to meet Tierra because she was a good judge of character. Sean went to get Tierra at the house, only to find her crying in her room. After talking to Tierra about what happened, he realizes that he needs to send her home. The other girls were unsure of Tierra's fate going into the rose ceremony, when in reality, she left St. Croix at Sean's request. Rose ceremony: Sean told the other girls that he sent Tierra home, but another girl would still be eliminated that night. He also expressed his frustration over the drama in the house. AshLee was concerned that she would be sent home because she was involved in Tierra's drama. Sean gave roses to Desiree, Catherine and AshLee, forcing Lesley to go home. After her elimination, Lesley tells the cameras that she was falling in love with Sean. During a special episode of the Bachelor entitled Sean Tells All, Sean expressed that if Lesley expressed these feelings to him, he would have given her a rose that night. In the end, the remaining four ladies prepare to take Sean home to meet their families.

AshLee: AshLee's hometown date took place in Houston, Texas at a park. When they arrived at her home, her religious parents talked to Sean about on her rough childhood life and her story began when she lived in different foster homes ever since she was born until was adopted by her current family. Ashlee professed her love to Sean before the date ends. Catherine: Catherine's hometown date took place in Seattle, Washington. Sean and Catherine took a tour of the Pike Place Market. Upon arriving at her home, Sean met Catherine's Filipino grandmother who speaks Tagalog. He greeted her using traditional Filipino culture that Catherine taught him. He also met her Filipino mother and her two sisters. Catherine's sisters were skeptical about Sean and Catherine's relationship, and they left Sean unsure as to whether or not Catherine was ready to settle down. Catherine's mother was not ready to give her daughter's hand in marriage yet. Lindsay: Lindsay's hometown date took place at her parents' home in a military base at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They explored the town, and Lindsay put Sean through boot camp. Sean met Lindsay's younger brother and her parents. Sean struggled with how to address Lindsay's father because he is a two-star general. Ultimately, her father gave Sean his blessing if he were to propose to Lindsay in the end. Desiree: Desiree's hometown date took place in Newport Beach, California. Sean and Desiree hiked in a park and later went to Des' home to host her parents and her brother for dinner. In order to get Sean back for the practical joke he played on her on their first date, Des hired an actor to play her ex-boyfriend who came to her house professing his love for Des. Sean fell for the prank, but Des told him the truth and they shared a laugh. Sean got along with Des' parents, but her brother called Sean a "playboy" to his face, which upset him. Rose ceremony: Sean and the remaining ladies returned to Los Angeles for the rose ceremony. Before the ceremony began, Desiree pulled Sean aside and apologized to him for her brother's rude behavior. Sean then gave roses to AshLee and Lindsay, but he had a hard time deciding between Catherine or Desiree and had to leave the room. He decided to give the final rose to Catherine. Des was eliminated, telling Sean he was making a mistake as they said goodbye. The remaining three ladies will travel with Sean to Thailand for their overnight dates.

The overnight dates took place in the resort town of Krabi in Thailand. Lindsay: Her overnight date started with a Tuk Tuk ride through the Trang Province where they spent the day together in the Sikao market area. The day continued on Yong Ling Beach with monkeys walking throughout the beach and they watched a traditional Chak Phra festival when Lindsay accepted Sean's invitation to the suite. AshLee: AshLee's overnight date started with a Long-tail Boat ride from Pak Meng pier and took them to the Ko Lanta District where they swam together through Emerald Cave to their private, enclosed beach where they spent the day together. Catherine: Catherine's day started at Ao Nang beach with a junk boat ride and ended in the suite in the jacuzzi. Rose Ceremony: After viewing videos from each of the three girls, Sean proceeded to the rose ceremony where he gave Lindsay the first rose, paused for a few moments, then gave Catherine the other rose for the week. AshLee was visibly upset and wanted to leave the resort without giving Sean a chance to explain himself.

The remaining eliminated bachelorettes sit down beside the audience for a hot seat. Tierra gave an interview and surprised on how made a regret that she did not apologize anything and refused to answer to sit with the others. AshLee took to a hot seat reviewed with a further exchange on Tierra's heated attitude felt that she bullied her in St. Croix. Desiree and Sarah are made emotional since their perspective eliminations that still have a little emotional on what did happened, Sarah expressed her feelings on her elimination in Canada. When Sean comes in to see with the bachelorettes, and finally gives a talk to AshLee that she revealed on a wish she could give a rose on a previous rose ceremony in Thailand, as AshLee seemed to accept Sean's answer, claimed that on made her best in the last date together with Sean.

Lindsay and Catherine were able to have the chance to meet Sean's family in Chiang Rai, and get to spend some time with Sean. For the final dates, Lindsay admits that made herself nervous with Sean, present them with lanterns to write their wishes and sent up to the sky. Catherine took an elephant ride and told Sean that is more difficult with an emotional, she did a courage saying with three words that she wasn't made on her feelings and cried on her tears. During the final rose ceremony, Lindsay comes out first. Sean tries to let her down easily, but he ends up breaking down and she ends up having to console him, while still acting slightly annoyed that he didn't pick her. Still, he tells her that he actually does love her and this is the hardest thing he's ever had to do. Then, Chris Harrison holds an envelope and gives to Sean and reads a letter from Catherine, which he learns on a heartfelt note to give spend a more time and Catherine finally arrives to see Sean and presents a velvet with a ring, and proposes to her. She says yes and gives her the final rose. The two can't stop telling one another how much they love each other.

There is a live viewing After the Final Rose party after the two-hour finale, and the first The Bachelor season of the live After the Rose Finale telecast since its introduction in 2002. Unlike previous seasons, the past After the Final Rose specials were taped. Before the introduction of the newly-engaged couple, Lindsay comes out for an interview after a break up with Sean, learned on her experiences the time of the show and accepts on a faith in the process of her heartbreak that torn herself apart. Next, Catherine is in the hot seat and sees wearing an engagement ring discuss with huge feelings on Sean that developed their relationship with Sean started on their first date in Canada as grew steadily fast that made incredibly best friends. Then, Sean appears in the studio audience and reunites with Catherine to see themselves together for the first time in public, as the two would be settling on for their marriage. Sean later announced the wedding would be aired on TV screens nationwide, whereas Catherine thinks that doesn't have a potential wedding date and must wait in a period of time. The two are made happily ever after to start their new lives together. Towards the end of the episode, and it was announced Desiree will be the next Bachelorette.

The 18th season of The Bachelor premiered on January 5, 2014. This season features 32-year-old Juan Pablo Galavis, a former Venezuelan professional soccer player from Miami, Florida. Galavis was eliminated in the ninth season of The Bachelorette by bachelorette Desiree Hartsock. He is also the first Hispanic bachelor.

Casting began during the airing of the seventeenth season of the show. Galavis was instantly chosen during the season finale of The Bachelorette.

Future appearances

Andi Dorfman was chosen as a bachelorette for the tenth season of The Bachelorette. Runner-up Clare Crawley, along with night one eliminee Lacy Faddoul with other finalists Christy Hansen, Elise Mosca, Danielle Ronco and Lucy Aragon later competed in the first season of Bachelor in Paradise. Mosca and Crawley quit in 20th/21st and 16th, respectively. While Ronco, Aragon and Hansen finished the competition in 19th, 15th and 7th/12th. Faddoul finished as co-winner with Bachelor Nation alumnus Marcus Grodd. Nikki Ferrell later participated in VH1 reality series Couples Therapy along with Galavis himself. Crawley returned to compete again on the second season of Bachelor in Paradise, along with finalists Cassandra Ferguson and Chelsie Webster. Crawley was eliminated in 23/24th place, Webster was eliminated in 11th/14th, and Ferguson finished as co-winner with Bachelor Nation alumnus Justin Reich.

Memorable moments from the ladies arriving the mansion are Christine, who holds a piece of charm bracelet would be giving for Juan Pablo's daughter, Camila, Nikki brings a stethoscope who has Juan Pablo feel her heart beat, Kat gives a lesson from Juan Pablo for a salsa dance, Lucy walks out of a limo barefoot, Lauren S. takes a piano bike approaching to the mansion, followed by Chelsie, a science educator, shows to Juan Pablo on making a science experiment, then was quickly followed by Ashley gives out some gold stars, being a 1st grade teacher, Clare shows her fake pregnant belly to Juan Pablo, and Kelly brings her dog over at the mansion. Amy J. shows Juan Pablo with a massage table and gives a free soothe massage, Lauren H. was previously engaged to a man that was going to be married and told Juan Pablo about being upset with the previous relationship. First One-on-one Date: Clare. Juan Pablo arrived at the Bachelor mansion and picked Clare to a car with a blindfold on. They didn't know they were going to a park with man-made snow in Malibu. The two went sledding and had a snowball fight. They also enjoyed some time in a hot tub and heard a private concert by Josh Krajcik, and she got the rose. Back at the house, when most girls are in a hot tub, Lucy went topless and caught all of the girls' attention. Second One-on-one Date: Kat. Kelly and her dog pick up the date card and it simply read, "Do you feel the electricity?" She and Juan Pablo rode a private jet and flew to Salt Lake City, where they participated in the Electric Run at night with professional runners. On the stage with the runners, Juan Pablo and holds a rose to Kat. Group Date: Alli, Andi, Cassandra, Chantel, Chelsie, Christy, Elise, Kelly, Lauren S., Lucy, Nikki, Renee and Victoria. Juan Pablo and the selected ladies participated in a group date: a photo shoot with rescued puppies for a charity. Some ladies chose the perfect outfit, while Elise and Andi had emotionally expressed picking a choice of clothing and were selected to shoot nude. Elise is utterly depressed by her look and switched costumes with Lucy, walking herself naked on a sidewalk alley with a dog. Andi was still emotional getting ready for the shoot, and Juan Pablo finally made a deal to have Andi a chance to do the photo shoot in the nude, and she accepted. Afterwards, they went to a hotel, where Victoria became emotional because of her behavior, and became drunk and started sobbed in the bathroom. Lucy called Juan Pablo to interrupt a one-on-one session with Christy to discuss Victoria's emotional breakdown. The date finally ended with Kelly receiving the rose. The next morning, Juan Pablo arrived at the hotel to see Victoria in a suite where she stayed, and he decided to send her home. In addition on Victoria's sudden elimination, the other ladies who didn't get a date were Amy L., Danielle and Sharleen. Cocktail Party: Juan Pablo finally had one-on-one time with Amy L. Being a news reporter, she gave him interview questions. Cassandra, one of the two single moms, showed Juan Pablo a picture of her son and told him how much she missed him. Rose Ceremony: During the ceremony, Juan Pablo calls Allison instead of Alli, and was deemed to pick the right rose. Amy L. and Chantel did not receive roses and were eliminated.

First One-on-One Date: Cassandra. Juan Pablo drives Cassandra to the beach, and surprises her by driving straight into the water. They drive in a water boat to a yacht. They swim and kiss, and she states that she no longer has fears about staying. They then go back to Juan Pablo's house, where he cooks dinner for her. Over dinner, he presents her with the rose. Group Date: Andi, Lauren S, Alli, Danielle, Sharleen, Renee, Kelly, Christy, Lucy, Nikki. The group arrives at StubHub Center soccer stadium. Juan Pablo plays soccer along with three soccer players from Los Angeles Galaxy (some of them are former Galaxy players), and runs through some soccer drills with the girls before having the girls split up into two teams to play against each other. After the game, the girls have time to talk to Juan Pablo individually. Andi and Juan Pablo kiss in the kitchen of the stadium, and Sharleen and Juan Pablo kiss in the middle of the soccer field, with the other girls jealously looking on. Nikki gets the rose. Second One-on-One Date: Chelsie. Juan Pablo's date card says "Do you trust me?" He first takes her to a Venezuelan eatery in Pasadena, where she tries traditional food. She says that if this is what he meant by "trust me," she can't wait for what else is in store. After they finished dinner, they arrived at the Colorado Street Bridge. Chelsie is afraid on heights, but is more confident after Juan Pablo talks to her about her fears, and they jump off the bridge together, kissing upside-down. Later, they enjoy a private dinner at Pasadena City Hall, danced to live music with Billy Currington on stage, and she receives a rose. Back at the house, Elise explains her frustration over not having received the date card (which she was expecting), and explaining that Chelsie is more of a "little girl" than a woman. She is not the only one who didn't have a date, Clare and Kat also didn't have their dates either. Cocktail Party: Juan Pablo surprises the girls by showing up to cook them breakfast. Kelly comes downstairs to sees what he is cooking, followed by the other girls. Some are unhappy that he is seeing them in their natural state, while others embrace the opportunity. After cooking them traditional Venezuelan arepas, Juan Pablo announces that they will have a relaxing pool party at the house, rather than a fancy cocktail party that evening. Some girls grab a lot of attention. Kat sits on Juan Pablo's shoulders in the pool, and Sharleen holds and kisses Juan Pablo in front of the other girls, again. Others, such as Clare, become particularly jealous, and must be comforted by Juan Pablo. Rose Ceremony: Andi receives the first rose. Christy and Lucy were eliminated.

Before the week started, Juan Pablo packed his bags and continued his quest to find love somewhere halfway around the world in a foreign country. He says goodbye to Camila and his parents. At the mansion, Chris Harrison comes in and tells the remaining ladies they would be heading to Seoul, South Korea and Juan Pablo will meet them there. First Group Date: Chelsie, Cassandra, Elise, Danielle, Kat, Nikki. Before the date starts, Alli opens up an envelope that has "POP" written inside it. The girls and Juan Pablo visit YG Entertainment and meet with the K-Pop group 2NE1. They learn dance moves to a song of theirs, and perform at their concert later that night as backup dancers. After the concert, the group goes to the Korea Furniture Museum, where Kat becomes the first to have alone time with Juan Pablo. While the rest of the girls are left behind in a group, Nikki talks about the girls behind their backs, much to the rest of the group's disdain. Nikki receives the rose. One-on-One Date: Sharleen. Juan Pablo takes Sharleen exploring through Seoul, tasting food together. Later in the evening, they go to dinner, where Juan Pablo forces Sharleen to sing to him. Sharleen receives a rose. Juan Pablo says that she may be his soul mate in his solo interview. Second Group Date: Renee, Lauren S., Clare, Andi, Kelly, Alli. First, the group goes and sings karaoke, and they tall try some Korean street food. Clare is disgusted after eating fried octopus, and the ladies help her eat the food. After, they go to a massage studio and have the dead skin eaten off of their feet by small fish. Then, they go and walk around Seoul. That night, Renee is the first one to get alone time with Juan Pablo. Lauren S. became emotional when she was going to kiss Juan Pablo while dancing, left herself with a cameraman and Juan Pablo quickly followed her. Andi receives the rose. Cocktail Party: Nikki interrupts Clare's alone time with Juan Pablo. Juan Pablo tells Nikki that he thinks there might be a problem within the house. Clare tells Nikki that those problems stem from her and Nikki gets upset. Rose Ceremony: Renee is called first and Kat last. Elise and Lauren S. were eliminated. Elise was very emotional upon leaving, as it was her deceased mother's wish for her to be on the show. Juan Pablo and the remaining ladies travel to Vietnam.

First One-on-One Date: Renee. She meets Juan Pablo in the ancient city of Hoi An and rent bicycles. They explore the town and visit a clothing store, where she finds a traditional Vietnamese dress that she would wear the night. During dinner, Juan Pablo asked Renee about her own life. she tells him about the father of her child, although the relationship with her former lover was tough for her and her friends. At the end, Renee receives a rose. Group Date: Kat, Clare, Cassandra, Danielle, Alli, Andi, Sharleen, Chelsie, and Kelly. They meet with Juan Pablo at a river with a date card saying, "Can you go with the flow?" They ride a traditional Vietnamese boat down the river. They are paired into four teams which were Kat & Andi, Cassandra & Danielle, Alli & Chelsie and Sharleen & Kelly. Some were mad that Clare didn't have a teammate, and was partnered with Juan Pablo instead, having struggled on a paddle boat reaching a grassy point. Then, they traveled to Tra Que Village and participate in traditional Vietnamese customs like giving Vietnamese hats, eating Vietnamese food for lunch, and farm work. Later that night, Juan Pablo and the girls on the date have a night of partying. Juan Pablo asks Clare to take a night dip in a pool, and she receives the rose. Shortly after the date ended, Clare found Juan Pablo and asked if he wanted to swim in the ocean with her at night. He agreed and the two took a dip into the ocean. Second One-on-One Date: Nikki. She and Juan Pablo traveled to Marble Mountains and descended down 200 feet (61 m) to a "hell cave" below. Juan Pablo has a conversation with Nikki about her being a trained nurse and that her decision was part of her dream. In the end, she receives a rose for the third straight time. Cocktail Party: The girls arrive at the rose ceremony on a boat. He announces that three people will be leaving at the end of the evening. This puts a lot of pressure on the eight remaining without a rose, as three already have roses. Juan Pablo talks to Clare about their alone time in the ocean and tells her that he does not want to set a bad example for his daughter. Clare cries, trying to be discrete, although the other women notice and are confused. Rose Ceremony: Sharleen is called first. Danielle, Kelly, and Alli were sent home.

The episode of the date took place in New Zealand. First One-on-One Date: Andi. Juan Pablo takes Andi on her first one-on-one date to "the squeeze", which is a path through caves filled with water that are so small, it "squeezes" you. The path ends at a hot waterfall. While they're eating dinner, a geyser goes off and soaks them, and they're forced to move. She receives the rose. Group Date: Sharleen, Chelsie, Renee, Nikki, Kat, Cassandra. It is revealed that it is Cassandra's 22nd birthday. They start out on a picnic in a field surrounded by cows. Then, the group takes a ride in giant inflatable balls down a hill of water. Later, Juan Pablo takes the girls to Hobbiton,the set of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Renee is the first to get alone time with him. After giving Sharleen the rose, he takes Cassandra aside to talk to her privately. He sends her home to be with her son on her birthday. Sharleen receives the rose. Second One-on-One Date: Clare. They go down and have a picnic on the beach. There, Clare hopes to get answers about the conversation they had regarding what they did in the ocean. Clare tells him that she likes casual dates instead of fancy ones, so Juan Pablo fetches some sweats and they relax together for the remainder of the evening. She receives the rose. Cocktail Party: Nikki is the first to have alone time with Juan Pablo. All of the women are very nervous about who is going home as only one person is. Rose Ceremony: Nikki is called first. Kat is sent home. Afterwards, Juan Pablo announces to the remaining ladies the next destination: Miami, Florida.

Juan Pablo returns to Miami and reunites with his family, including Camila and his cousin Rodolfo. They discuss what he learned in the previous dates. First One-on-One Date: Sharleen. She met with Juan Pablo on the seaside. The pair then rides a small yacht to an island. They have a conversation together about her planning to leave the competition. Second One-on-One Date: Nikki. Juan Pablo brought Nikki to a flower shop. He buys her a bouquet of flowers, and they go to a dance studio to meet with Camila, Juan Pablo's parents, and actress Carla Rodriguez (who is Juan Pablo's ex-girlfriend and Camila's mother), to watch Camila's dance recital. They traveled to Marlins Park for a night picnic. Following Nikki's date with Juan Pablo, Sharleen decides to leave the show as she does not feel as strongly as she should about Juan Pablo. Group Date: Chelsie, Andi, Clare, and Renee. The girls and Juan Pablo rented a seaplane to an island and spend their time together on a private beach. Chelsie brings a set of notes that she keeps for the rest of the journey, Renee is very excited to meet with her son if she gets an approval for an upcoming hometown date, and Clare is sympathized on her brood family. In the end, Andi receives the rose and the two go on a date alone, leaving the rest of the ladies back at the hotel. Juan Pablo continues the date with Andi and take her to South Beach to hang out, and they see Romeo Santos salsa dance. A couple of hours after the group date, Chelsie, Renee, and Clare go back to the hotel and meet with Nikki. Nikki leaves in the middle of the conversation. Clare confronts Nikki and the two argue, their obvious but silent tension coming forward. Cocktail Party: The girls are very nervous regarding the roses. Renee is the first to receive alone time. Rose Ceremony: Nikki is called first, and Renee is called last. Chelsie is sent home. She was devastated and cried in the limo.

Nikki: Nikki's hometown date begins in Kansas City, Missouri. She and Juan Pablo stopped at Oklahoma Joe's BBQ for lunch, where Juan Pablo gets a taste of Kansas City-style barbecue. Then, they ride on a mechanical bull. That evening, Nikki takes Juan Pablo to meet her parents, younger brothers, and her sister-in-law at the family house. Juan Pablo talks with Nikki's father, who wants a better relationship for Nikki, but still gives a slight bit of approval to Juan Pablo. Andi: Once in Atlanta, Georgia, Andi takes Juan Pablo to a shooting range. Both Juan Pablo and Andi taking practice shoots on accurate targets with pistols. Despite it being his first time shooting, Juan Pablo manages to shoot with good aim and a bit of accuracy. She is so happy and anxious to arrive at her house, where there is a "Welcome Home, Pookie" sign in the entrance door. Andi introduces Juan Pablo to her parents, her older sister, and her brother-in-law. Andi's dad is more skeptical on meeting Juan Pablo in person and they have to slight talk. Andi's dad is better at giving Juan Pablo approval to join the family. Renee: Next is Renee's hometown of Sarasota, Florida. She meets with Juan Pablo to watch her son's baseball game. She is excited for Juan Pablo to meet her son, which makes him happy. He learns that Renee is really a good mother to her son, and they visit her home to meet with Renee's parents and brother. She takes her son to bed, and Renee has a talk to her mother privately upstairs about the friendship. Clare: Finally, in Sacramento, Clare meets with Juan Pablo by a lake in McKinley Park. She tells the story of her deceased father's final days. Juan Pablo is saddened to hear about her father's ill health. She takes Juan Pablo to her home and meets with her large family, being the youngest of six siblings. Clare's older siblings are all protective of her and wanted to have a long talk with Juan Pablo. Then, Clare began to talk with Juan Pablo and asks to give a break for going a breakdown with the family. Finally, Clare's mom talks to Juan Pablo in Spanish. Juan Pablo tells her about his country Venezuela. All of Clare's respective family want Clare to get the proposal. Rose Ceremony: The rose ceremony took place in Miami instead of Los Angeles, as in previous seasons. Juan Pablo handed out the roses to Nikki, Clare and Andi. Renee was sent home. She cried in the limo because she could now be with her son. Afterwards, Juan Pablo and the remaining women hopefuls have to continue on their journey to Saint Lucia.

Clare: Clare and Juan Pablo take a boat ride in a yacht, where they spend the day. The two are offered a night together in the Fantasy Suite. Clare is hesitant at first, because of what happened in Vietnam, but eventually agrees. Andi: Andi is second to have an overnight date. They go to a village and play soccer with local kids. Later, they spend the night together in the Fantasy Suite. They wake up, Juan Pablo feeling very good about the night. Andi, however, felt that the night was a disaster. He mentions his overnight with Clare, which upsets her greatly. She decides that he is not the one for her. Nikki: Juan Pablo decides to take Nikki horseback riding on the beach, where they end up having a picnic. They have an overnight date, where Nikki tells Juan Pablo that she is in love with him. Rose Ceremony: Juan Pablo watches the personal videos that each of the women made. Clare tells him that he loves her in her video. Andi tells Juan Pablo in her message that she wants to talk to him about the Fantasy Suite in person. The two have a discussion about it that ends in an argument. Andi leaves the show. The remaining two girls are told that Andi has left. Juan Pablo tells them that there are two roses left and that they are free to say no if they don't want to move forward. Nikki is called first, with both of the girls accepting the rose.

Before the introduction of this season's contestants, newlyweds Sean and Catherine Lowe (née Giudici) discuss their married life and honeymoon in Bora Bora, which included diving with sharks. Seventeen of the twenty-seven contestants sat down for the reunion show, including Kelly's dog Molly and two eliminees from night one: Kylie and Lauren H. First, Sharleen talks about how she left her heart with Juan Pablo back in Miami, and she is deeply in sorrowed with a broken heart. Renee tells of her life since her elimination and announces that she is happily engaged to a man and plans to move to Seattle. Andi discusses her shocking exit following a breakdown with a Fantasy Suite card, stating that her behavior was awful. Then, scene bloopers include a water buggy stuck on a river and trying to get help during Juan Pablo and Cassandra's date, Molly the dog pees in a pool and Juan Pablo wearing pink boxer shorts for an initial plan on a rose ceremony.

The final two have a chance to meet with Juan Pablo's family in St. Lucia, and have to spend time with Juan Pablo. Nikki has already met Juan Pablo's parents and Camila back in Miami, only she meets with Juan Pablo's siblings and cousin. Over at the final dates, Juan Pablo and Clare ride a helicopter to a cliff and realizing on the relationship. Nikki and Juan Pablo took on a boat and across them to a beach. At the final rose ceremony, Juan Pablo eliminated Clare and he chooses Nikki at the end. However, Juan Pablo did not propose, stating that as Nikki's father suggested, he should be 100% sure before he proposes. He tells her that he "likes her... A LOT." and he gives her the final rose.

There is a live finale viewing party and then the "After the Final Rose" follows. Chris Harrison begins the show by hyping up a surprise that Juan Pablo has in store for all of the viewers, including himself. Chris Harrison puts Clare Crawley in the hot seat first. He asks her questions about how she felt, the controversial helicopter ride, and how the Sacramento-raised hair-stylist was doing now. Clare insists that she's extremely happy. She says it hurts to watch the finale, and that she does not want the chance to talk to Juan Pablo again. She claims that she doesn't want to hear anymore "bull****" from him. After Clare, Juan Pablo comes to the stage. First, he mentions the troubles in Venezuela. Then, Harrison asks him about what he thought about Clare. Juan Pablo attempts to defend himself against the way that he has been portrayed and about the reality of the experience. Trying to push things along, Chris Harrison interrupts to ask his next question. He is immediately interrupted by the bachelor saying, "Can I talk? ...Wooh!" This does not go over well with the crowd. Harrison continues prompting him with questions, to which Juan Pablo says that he prefers his privacy and he's always honest. He also says he has no regrets about the show. Next, Nikki is in the hot seat. She reveals that she and Juan Pablo are still together. She tells Harrison how much she loves her new Venezuelan boyfriend. Harrison asks Nikki if Juan Pablo loves her and Nikki responds, "Um, I don't know?" in an upbeat voice. Harrison expresses his concern over this fact, but Nikki defends the bachelor by saying that she knows he cares for her by the way that he acts. Finally, Juan Pablo and Nikki are reunited in the first public appearance together. Juan Pablo comes out and gives Nikki a "besito." He again explains his reasoning about not proposing and tells Harrison that they are happy together and glad to be able to go out in public together. Chris Harrison asks Juan Pablo about the surprise he has for tonight, but Juan Pablo is confused by this statement. He says that he has no surprise. Chris Harrison continues to push for an answer about how Juan Pablo feels about Nikki. He says things like, "I feel fantastic about her" instead of saying that he loves her, which upsets Chris and the audience. Juan Pablo insists that now is the time for them to be private as a couple and really start their relationship. He says that the two are "so done with the show." Nikki says that a lot of contestants come on the show and say that they're in love, but it's obviously not real. She believes in their relationship. At the end of the show, Chris Harrison announces that the new bachelorette will be Andi Dorfman. She tells him how badly she wants to fall in love and share her life with someone. She is hopeful that the show will make that possible for her.

The 19th season of The Bachelor premiered on January 5, 2015. This season featured 33-year-old Chris Soules, a farmer from Arlington, Iowa. Soules placed third on season 10 of The Bachelorette featuring Andi Dorfman.

Casting and contestants

Casting began during the eighteenth season of The Bachelor. Soules and Arie Luyendyk Jr. were the candidates for the next bachelor. On August 26, 2014, Soules was chosen as a fan favorite and was first announced on Good Morning America.

One of the season's contestants, Carly, is the sister of The Bachelorette contestant Zak Waddell.

Production

Unlike previous seasons, this season premiered with a three-hour live episode. Its locales included San Francisco, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Deadwood, South Dakota, Des Moines, Iowa, and the Indonesian island of Bali. Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel took over for one episode in week three and there was a performance from Big & Rich in week six.

Future appearances

Immediately after this season, Soules appeared on the twentieth season of Dancing with the Stars partnering with Witney Carson, finished in 5th. Britt Nilsson and Kaitlyn Bristowe were selected as a cast on the eleventh season of The Bachelorette, in the end, Bristowe was chosen for the lead role.

Ashley Salter was signed up for the second season of Bachelor in Paradise and agreed to join the cast. Along with Salter, Ashley Iaconetti, Carly Waddell, Jade Roper, Jillian Anderson, Juelia Kinney, Megan Bell, Amber James, Samantha Steffen and Mackenzie Deonigi all returned in the second season of Bachelor in Paradise. Iaconetti along with her sister Lauren as a part in the cast for that season. Anderson was the first one eliminated placing 29th, while Bell was eliminated in 23/24th. Kinney quit in 20th, Iaconetti quit in 18th, Deonigi quit in 16th, Salter and James were eliminated in 11th/14th, and Waddell placed in 9th/10th. Roper and Steffen finished as co-winners with Bachelor Nation alumnus Tanner Tolbert and Nick Peterson.

James returned on the twentieth season with Becca Tilley as a part of the cast for that season, James finished in 12th/13th and Tilley finished in 5th.

The first hour of the episode consists of a live red carpet event in Los Angeles hosted by Chris Harrison, and attended by fans of the show as well as former The Bachelor and The Bachelorette contestants. Chris interviews seven former contestants: Sean and Catherine Lowe, Marcus Grodd and Lacy Faddoul, Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray, and Nikki Ferrell. Notable arrivals in the mansion are Reegan, a cadaver tissue saleswoman (known as "Donated Tissue Specialist" in the show credits), brings a (fake) human heart. Tara comes in shorts, flannel, and cowboy boots, then changes into a dress. Amber presents a teddy bear, and Nikki tells Chris that she arrived at the mansion straight from her trip in Peru, when Tara comes back into the limo to reintroduce herself to Chris. Amanda calls the limo driver to give an envelope to Chris and does not give her name; she makes Chris close his eyes and tells him she is his secret admirer, echoing how Chris introduced himself to Andi. Chris spends time with the initial 15 women, leading them to believe that there would be only 15 contestants, Harrison called Chris out before the second batch of women arrived. More notable arrivals like Nicole wears a pig nose. Tandra rides a motorcycle. Alissa, a flight attendant, performs a seat belt demonstration. Kimberly convinced Chris to give her another chance. First Group Date: "Show me your country..." Jade, Tandra, Ashley I., Mackenzie, Kimberly, and Tara. The girls and Chris have a pool party. During this time, Megan and Jillian sneak off to Chris's house. Megan wears his motorcycle helmet and rams her head into several objects before determining that it's safe. Later, the group walks down the streets of Los Angeles in their bathing suits. They find a line of tractors and Chris tells the girls that they're going to race. The tractors take off slowly, but Ashley I. eventually wins the race, winning some alone time with Chris as well. Halfway through the date, Chris announces to the girls that the date will continue as a one-on-one. He invites Mackenzie to come with him while the other five go home. While the date starts off a little strangely, it ends well with Chris giving her the rose. The rest of the women are back at the house where they bond and wait for the next date card. Juelia tells the women that she has a daughter and was married, but her husband died. One-on-one: "Love is a natural wonder..." Megan. The two fly to Las Vegas, Nevada and get into a helicopter. They fly over the Grand Canyon, land, and have a picnic on the Colorado River. They have a heart-to-heart and Megan tells Chris about her father who had recently had a heart attack that caused him to go brain dead. Chris tells her that she has had an impact on him ever since the first night. He gives her the rose. Second Group Date: "Til death do us part..." Kelsey, Trina, Alissa, Tracy, Jillian, Becca, Amber, Ashley S., Juelia, Kaitlyn, and Britt. The limo drives up to a creepy-looking area in the middle of nowhere. It appears that the girls are at a haunted house as they are attacked by "zombies" at their limo. When Chris opens the door, the girls scream even louder. When they get out, Chris explains that the group is splitting up into three teams and killing zombies with paintballs. At the dinner afterwards, the group talk about Ashley S. and they are concerned with how strange she is. During their alone time, it is evident that Chris feels the same way. During his alone time with Britt, Chris gives her a card that says "Free kiss from Chris" to show her that he was thinking about her. Kaitlyn receives the rose. Back at the house, Jordan was jealous who didn't get a date, begins an antic when she became drunk and shows up twerking upside down with the other women at the bathroom wearing face masks. Beside with Jordan; Carly, Whitney, Nikki, and Samantha were the other four who also not given a date this week either. Cocktail Party: Whitney gives Chris a bottle of his favorite whiskey with high hopes that she'll be back on his radar. They share a toast by the fireplace. Ashley I. admits to some of the other girls that she is a virgin, something that she's not ready to tell Chris quite yet. Jordan has had too many drinks and is drunk when she talks to Chris and he is visibly uncomfortable. At the rose ceremony, Britt received the rose, and Ashley S. went last once again, Alissa, Jordan, Tandra and Tara were eliminated, along with Kimberly, who felt emotional on being sent home once again.

The episode starts with Jimmy Kimmel surprising Chris and the women. He presents the first date card to the group, telling them that he will be planning the dates for the week. Chris is also in the dark for what the dates will entail. First One-on-one Date: Kaitlyn. Jimmy sends them to Costco to pick up some groceries for him, including several cases of ketchup, chairs, tables, and paper towels. They go back to Chris's house and they cook dinner together. While they're sitting on a couch in the back, kissing, Jimmy shows up. The three have dinner together in Chris's backyard. Kaitlyn receives the rose. Group Date: Britt, Jillian, Becca, Tracey, Mackenzie, Kelsey, Amber, Ashley S., Juelia, Samantha, Nikki, and Carly. Jimmy takes them to visit with some "real party animals". There will be a relay sort of activity that involves different animals including filling a wheelbarrow with manure, drinking goat milk, and wrestling a greased pig. Despite her being lactose intolerant, Carly wins the relay. After, Jimmy takes a picture of Carly and Chris dressed up like the couple in the painting, American Gothic. At the dinner afterwards, Carly, steals Chris away for the first alone time. Becca receives the rose. Second One-on-one Date: Whitney. They go and have a picnic where they see a wedding taking place below. Whitney suggests that they crash the wedding, so they go back and change into nicer clothes and then crash the wedding. Their story, just in case anyone recognized Chris, is that the two of them became engaged on the Bachelor. Chris is nervous about pretending to belong at the wedding, but he is blown away by Whitney's ability to make up a story to make it seem like they knew the bride and groom. Whitney receives the rose. The women who didn't get a date this week were Ashley I., Jade, Megan, and Trina. In place of a cocktail party, the group has a pool party. There, Juelia opens up to Chris about her late husband's suicide. Jade, concerned that she hasn't gotten much alone time with Chris, asks him to give her a tour of his house. During this time, Jillian decides to go to his house, get into his hot tub, and wait for him. When other women try to talk to Chris, Jillian continues to monopolize his time. Eventually, he takes Ashley I. aside to talk to her privately because of how upset she seemed with Jillian. They kiss on the roof. While everyone is sitting together by the pool, Chris Harrison comes in and tells them that it's time for the rose ceremony. Chris goes off to prepare. Rose Ceremony: Jade is surprised to receive a rose; Amber, Tracy and Trina were all sent home.

The episode begins with Chris Harrison entering the mansion, making some intentions with Chris and holds the date card for the upcoming date. First Group Date: Megan, Kaitlyn, Ashley I., Ashley S., Juelia, Samantha, Mackenzie and Kelsey. The Date Card says, "Do What Feels Natural..." They meet with Chris who takes them to Lake Piru for a camping trip that includes a fun day swimming and playing games at the lake. Ashley I. and Kaitlyn take off their bikini top and bottoms, respectively, when they jump in the lake. This disgusts Kelsey, who calls this indecent behavior for a group date. Kelsey is also overall uninterested in camping at the lake and pouts for most of the date. At night, the women comment on Ashley S.'s continuing strange behavior, comparing her stares and tone of voice to that of someone in a horror movie. As everyone settles in for bed, Ashley I. goes to Chris's tent and admits to him that she has never had a boyfriend before, unsuccessfully hinting that she is a virgin. Kaitlyn receives the rose. Meanwhile, the rest of the women are back at the house, awaiting an invitation for the one-on-one date, which will be chosen by Chris's three sisters after a personal interview with each contestant. After talking with everyone, Chris's sisters chose Jade for a masquerade ball-themed date taking place the following evening from 8 pm to 12 am. One-on-one Date: Jade. After Jade received the envelope from Chris's sisters, a makeup crew surprises her at the house, personally styling her with fashionable hair, makeup, and a ballgown inspired by the movie Cinderella and, like titular character, escort her to a grand ball. There, Jade and Chris talk over dinner and wine, and they connect over shared experiences--they both have been previously engaged. Jade receives the rose, and she and Chris end the night by dancing in a ballroom surrounding by a professional orchestra. Meanwhile at the house, Ashley I. expresses her frustration over not being chosen for this specific one-on-one date, because she wants to dress up like a princess and have a formal date with Chris. She dresses up in the formal gown that she brought purposefully for a princess-themed date and drinks wine. Second Group Date: Nikki, Jillian, Whitney, Carly, Britt, Becca. The women on this group date each receive a package containing a wedding dress that won't be going for a walk down the aisle. The women board a private plane and fly to San Francisco where they are taken to a MuckFest MS obstacle course location. There, they have to race each other through a wet, muddy course while wearing the wedding dresses. Whoever wins goes on a one-on-one date with Chris in San Francisco for the rest of the night. Jillian easily wins, sending the other women back to the house. During Chris and Jillian's dinner date at Fairmont San Francisco Jillian spends most of the time talking about herself. The date is cut short when Chris makes the decision to send Jillian home, stating that they lacked romantic connection during one-on-one time. Cocktail Party: Ashley I., not confident that Chris understood her hint during first group date, goes to him directly to say that she is a virgin. Afterward, she regrets telling him, feeling like he was "freaked out" by her confession. Ashley I. then informs all of the other women that she is a virgin, and learns that Becca has not had sex, either. At the Rose Ceremony, Chris tells the ladies that he made difficult and tough decisions tonight. Whitney's name is called first, and Britt is named last. Ashley S., Juelia and Nikki are sent home. Chris accompanies Juelia out and tells her how proud he is for her journey in the competition and encourages her that she's making her daughter proud.

First one-on-one date: Carly. Chris takes Carly to a house where they find a "Love and Intimacy Mentor" meditating in the backyard. Chris says that his relationship with Carly is more like a friendship and if this woman can't bring out the romance, the relationship is over. Various aspects of the date make both of them feel uncomfortable. However, in the end, they both felt more connected with each other and bonded. They go to dinner later and open up to each other. Group Date: Jade, Meghan, Kaitlyn, Whitney, Mackenzie, Becca, Samantha, Ashley I., Kelsey. Chris takes the group of women white-water rafting in Rio Grande. Jade falls into the water and, because of a condition that causes her to have hypothermia at regular temperatures, Chris rubs her feet warm, causing much jealousy among the other girls. At the hotel where the afterparty takes place, Jordan, who was let go two weeks prior, shows up, asking Chris for some alone time to talk and get to know her. He brings her back to the afterparty, much to the rest of the group's dismay. Ultimately, Chris sends Jordan back home and gives the rose to Whitney. Second one-on-one: Britt. Chris goes into Britt's room at 4:30 in the morning. He takes Britt, who has acrophobia, on a hot air balloon ride. After, they go back to his hotel room, where he gives her the rose. They start kissing in Chris's bed before he closes the doors on the cameras. Before the cocktail party and rose ceremony, Kelsey goes to Chris's hotel room and tells him the story of how she was widowed. Cocktail party: The girls, even those with roses, are all worried, except for Kelsey, who is overly confident, despite her lack of rose. Chris comes in to talk to the women and tells them that it's been a particularly tough week before excusing himself. He reveals that Kelsey came to talk to him, which becomes an awkward moment with the rest of the group. Kelsey states that Chris has his mind already made up, although everyone else is skeptical. After a while, Chris Harrison comes back and announces that Chris knows what he's going to do and they will be skipping the cocktail party. All of the sudden, Kelsey leaves the room and collapses on the floor in a panic attack. The episode ends with a cliffhanger, with the fate of rose ceremony.

Kelsey recovers from her panic attack and goes to talk to Chris. The other ladies are convinced that Kelsey faked the panic attack to manipulate Chris and are united in their dislike for her. The rose ceremony resumes with Kelsey receiving the last rose, while Mackenzie and Samantha are eliminated. The remaining ladies find out that they're heading to Deadwood, South Dakota. One-on-one Date: Becca. Chris and Becca go horseback riding and have a cookout in the woods. During the closing credits we find out that they also did some gun shooting. Chris is very impressed with Becca. Becca is nervous about the possibility of a first kiss, particularly if her father is watching. Chris and Becca do indeed kiss and Chris gives Becca the rose. Group Date: Meghan, Carly, Britt, Whitney, Jade, and Kaitlyn. The ladies meet country duo Big & Rich and must write love songs to sing to Chris. After the singing, Chris tells Britt he has a surprise and takes her from the group date to the Big & Rich concert where he takes Britt on stage and gives her a rose. An hour later, they return to the group date where the girls are upset that Chris and Britt were away together. Two-on-one Date: Kelsey and Ashley I. Tensions are running high between the two girls; both are convinced they will get the rose and both are upset with the antics of the other. Chris takes Ashley I. away in the beginning and asks her what it's like in the house. Ashley I. admits that Kelsey doesn't get along with the other girls and that they feel she is fake. Chris then tells Kelsey what Ashley I. said about her, sparking a fight between the two girls. Ashley I. pulls Chris away, is upset and begins to cry. Chris says that he doesn't see her fitting in to his world and doesn't see them together, so he sends her home. Chris then tells Kelsey that he sent Ashley I. home, which means that Kelsey would normally stay. However, he then tells Kelsey that he doesn't see a future with her either and doesn't want to keep her here longer if he doesn't see her as his wife. Back at the hotel, the ladies are shocked to see Ashley's suitcase being taken away, but later celebrate when they see Kelsey's suitcase taken away as well.

Prior to the Rose Ceremony, Megan confronts Chris about the fact that their relationship isn't moving forward. Chris agrees with her assessment and indicates that this is not likely to change, so Megan decides to leave. Chris Harrison then announces that only one lady will be eliminated at the Rose Ceremony. However, Chris declares that he has strong feelings for all six and decides not to eliminate any of them. He invites them all to come to his home state of Iowa. First One-on-one Date: Jade and Chris travel to Chris' hometown of Arlington and visit his house, farm and various landmarks around the town. Chris notes the fact that most of the businesses in Arlington have closed, and there are no real bars or restaurants in town, but it is home to him. They attend a high school football game at Starmont High School (his alma mater) and meet his parents. Second One-on-one Date: Whitney and Chris go to Des Moines. They visit a museum and are given a camera to record images of loving moments taken around town. They select one image as the best. Later they visit a restaurant and talk with some of Chris' friends. At the end of the evening a wall mural based on their photo is unveiled near the restaurant. After hearing Jade's description of Arlington, Carly, Kaitlyn, Becca and Britt decide to take a road trip and see it for themselves. They get the impression that it is very small and all the buildings seem to be locked. They ask a local where the nearest restaurant is and he says it is an hour away in Cedar Rapids. After returning, Britt remarks to the others that she could never live in such a place. However, later she tells Chris that she had a wonderful time in Arlington. Just before the start of the group date, Jade finally confesses to Carly that she posed nude for Playboy. Carly is stunned but supportive, and encourages Jade to tell Chris. Group Date: Carly, Kaitlyn and Britt join Chris to play ice hockey at Wells Fargo Arena. Carly privately tells Chris that Britt said she could not live in Arlington and that he should be careful. Chris gives Britt another chance to change her story; Britt admits that she didn't like Arlington at first, but that she thinks she could make it work. Kaitlyn tells Chris she is feeling insecure about their relationship; Chris reassures her by giving her the group date rose. Britt pouts about not getting the rose and tells Chris that she's not sure whether she wants to take Chris to meet her family. Chris feels manipulated and ends the date. Carly gloats to the others about Britt's meltdown.

Week 7 One-on-one Date: Becca visited the loft apartment where Chris was staying while in Des Moines and they had a chance to relax and talk. She tells him that she has never brought anyone home to meet her parents. Back at the house, Britt tells the others that she feels she needs to leave, but they are skeptical that she will actually go through with it. Britt resolves to tell Chris during the Cocktail Party that she is leaving. However, Chris Harrison announces that Chris has decided not to have the Cocktail Party because his mind is made up. Jade is also disappointed that she will not be able to share her secret with Chris. Week 7 Rose Ceremony: Before Chris can hand out the first rose, Britt asks to speak with him privately. During the discussion Chris points out that there have been several instances where she seems to have been lying to him, which has led him to decide that he can't continue a relationship with her. She sits outside and sobs and the others feel that she is finally getting a taste of the real world. Back at the ceremony, Chris says that he appreciates their feedback and if they will be honest with him, he will be honest with them. Carly does not get a rose and is eliminated. Chris and the final four move on to the hometown dates. Becca: Her hometown date begins in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her family tells Chris that she had never been in a serious relationship before, and that they are surprised by how close they seem to be. Becca's sister tells Becca that she is worried how Chris will react to her virginity if they reach the fantasy suite. Chris worries about whether Becca is capable of being close with anyone, but decides that it worth it to be the one that she's waiting for. The evening ends on a high note, as Chris takes Becca for a ride on the ferris wheel at the Louisiana State Fair. Whitney: Next is Whitney's date in Chicago, Illinois. First she showed him the fertility clinic where she works. Then they go to dinner with her family in her apartment. Whitney's sister was a bit skeptical of the process and Whitney asks her not to ruin it for her. Chris asks her sister for her blessing to propose to Whitney and she said she would withhold her blessing until Whitney was the only one remaining. At the end of the evening Whitney opened and shared an expensive bottle of wine with Chris to celebrate the occasion. Kaitlyn: Kaitlyn's date takes place in Phoenix, Arizona instead of her native Canada, since that is where her parents spend the winter. She and Chris go to a record studio and produce a rap song about their experiences so far. Then they go to her house and meet with her parents, her step-parents, and her sister. Her mother tells Chris that Kaitlyn may be protecting her heart because she had a previous relationship that ended badly. Afterwards, Kaitlyn takes Chris out and shows him a huge "Kaitlyn [hearts] Chris" billboard which she had arranged. Jade: Last, Jade's hometown date is in Gering, Nebraska. She meets Chris at her house and introduces her father, her father's fiance, her brothers and her mother. Jade's father and brother both tell Chris that Jade has a history, although give few details. Her father warns him that her previous boyfriends found her too much to handle and her brother says she is a free spirit and a wild mustang, but that she might be able to settle down. Chris is puzzled, because he has never seen this side of her. Later that evening, they go to the motel where Chris is staying and Jade finally gets a chance to share her secret. She shows her Playboy photos and video to Chris, who is initially shocked but decides that he will not judge her for her past and that this will not affect their relationship. Rose Ceremony: The Rose Ceremony takes place in Dubuque, Iowa. Chris is not thrilled with having to make a very hard decision about who to send home. He gives the roses to Whitney, Kaitlyn and Becca, sending Jade home. Chris reassures Jade that her revelation did not play a role in his decision. Chris sits on the curb and cries as Jade's limo drives away.

Chris and the final three ladies travel to the island of Bali in Indonesia. Kaitlyn: Kaitlyn and Chris wander through Bali, meeting people on the street and talking with them. They have an encounter in a park with monkeys, who climb on their backs when they hold up bananas. Later, they decide to go to the fantasy suite, where Kaitlyn opens up about her feelings and he says he's starting to fall in love with her, too. Whitney: Chris and Whitney take a boat ride over the ocean. Whitney is worried that her sister's refusal to give Chris her blessing will ruin her chances with him, so Chris reassures Whitney that her sister's disapproval doesn't change how he feels about her. They jump in the ocean together and lounge on the deck until sundown. Later, Chris and Whitney discuss Arlington, Iowa. Whitney says she's not happy not being a wife and mother, so she would be willing to leave her career to be with him in Arlington without regret. They both decide to go to the fantasy suite. Becca: Chris and Becca visit a Bali village, drinking from fruit and walking through forests. They interact with the kids in the village and visit a temple. At the temple, they ask questions about their relationship and future. They talk near a river and then kiss in it. Becca tells him she thinks she's falling in love with him and he tells her he is, too. When they pull out the fantasy suite card they decide to go to the fantasy suite together. While in the fantasy suite, Becca confesses to Chris that she's a virgin. Chris is flustered but says he respects her for it. After the fantasy suite: Chris says he woke up after the fantasy suite with Becca and they had a very serious conversation that worried him about their future. He says she's not completely confident about her feelings and a future in Iowa. He tears up when thinking about everything, and what he's going to do because his decision isn't clear and he's going to have to send someone home that he's falling in love with. Chris talks with Chris Harrison about his struggling choice. Rose Ceremony: Before the Rose Ceremony starts Chris pulls Becca aside to talk. She tells him she has strong feelings for him and he struggles with his emotions as he tries to describe how he feels about her. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn and Whitney discuss how they think Becca is going home and Kaitlyn is happy about the thought. When Chris returns with Becca the other girls are shocked and worried. Chris calls out Whitney first then Becca, and he walks Kaitlyn out, holding her hand. He tells her he can't explain why he's sending her home and he really cares about her and it wasn't an easy decision for him. In the car, Kaitlyn is confused about her feelings and upset that she let her guard down. She's also very upset with Chris for not telling her why she being eliminated.

Seventeen of the twenty-eight eliminated contestants sat down for the show in particular order: Nikki, Trina, Juelia, Tara, Amber, Megan, Samantha, Jordan, Ashley S., Jillian, Kelsey, Britt, Mackenzie, Ashley I., Jade, Carly and Kaitlyn. Some of the eliminated contestants took turns in the hot seat. Highlights included Britt confronting Carly causing an argument lead from the other ladies, Kelsey confronts Ashley I. on a controversial two-on-one date that gives reaction to the others, she also reflects on her late husband's death. Chris Harrison extended an invitation to Ashley S. and brings a souvenir of pomegranate which she found back in the first week to him, later Harrison suggests her to appear in the next season of Bachelor in Paradise. Then, Jade confronts with Chris Harrison and discuss on her experience at the date recalling on the Playboy nude photo. Later Chris took the hot seat and got closure with several of the women, and apologized to Kaitlyn for making her appear in the Rose Ceremony rather than letting her leave gracefully. The bloopers including a red underwear being found in the production room, some of the contestants were frightened with insects and animals during confessional interviews, and Chris Harrison teaches Jimmy Kimmel during week 3 on the preparation for the Rose Ceremony.

Chris returns home to Arlington, Iowa and has a chance to bring Whitney and Becca to his family. He spent his time on his parents' house with his family including a plenty of his nieces and nephews. Whitney arrives first and was being greeted by Chris' father Gary with her chances. Then, Chris' sisters talk to her moving to Arlington would be difficult for her if she would ready to be a wife, Chris' mom Linda explains to her that why she doesn't have any parents, as her mom had died and has no contact with her dad. Her dream would start a family with Chris. Just after the meeting with Whitney, Chris has a pep talk with his dad and brothers-in-law thinking about on a mystery about Becca with knowing things to not start with a better relationship. Becca is next to meet with Chris' family and conceives on her would be future-in-laws with a big impression. She was awful in her eyes with the large-knitted family. They asked her about Arlington and wasn't actually the first time she visited, in fact she was on the road trip with three other girls back in Week 7. Then, Linda asks her whether if she commit to Chris in two days waiting for a decision to be part of the family and didn't recognize that she is not ready to in love. Over at the final dates, Chris comes to Becca's hotel room and then they talk with on each other stating that whether Becca may giving an interest to take a small town life is more difficult, and she doesn't want to move to Iowa, left with no choice. Whitney drops off over Chris' family farm in Arlington and rode a tractor with his dad harvesting grains of corn. Then, he and Whitney travel to somewhere of middle of nowhere, Chris shows her a tour of the farm with a fields of livestock and they finally arrived on his house. Later at the hotel, they have a cocktail toast showing their photo during the one-on-one date back on Week 3 and Whitney loves on a small town life. At the hotel, Neil Lane arrives in Iowa and asks Chris to choose an engagement ring. Then, Chris sends to the family barn in Lamont described he raised a pig when he was a child. Becca arrives on a barn first, Chris told her that she is not ready to become a wife, and she leaves in a painful tears on a limo ride. Whitney comes next and Chris Harrison gives her with a "good luck" wearing high heels and stunning black dress. Then, he tells her proposing on his knee and asked, "Everything about this moment feels right and I want the world to know that I love you Whitney Bischoff, will you marry me?". They ended with sitting down on the barn.

There is a live finale viewing party and then the "After the Final Rose" follows. Chris Harrison begins the show by hyping up a surprise that Chris has in store for all of the viewers, including himself. Chris Harrison puts Becca on the hot seat first. He asks her questions about the final rose ceremony and how she is doing now. She has a chance to talk Chris again. Next, Whitney is on the hot seat and gave interviews about her relationship with Chris, she told Harrison that the couple have a strong romantic bond since their engagement, and she and Chris seen together for the first time in public appearance, meaning they became more happy. Then, Whitney talks about Arlington and knows the distance is not quite far from Chicago. There is a video clip showing after the proposal, Chris' parents came to the barn with a big congratulations for the newly-engaged couple. Ashley S., who was eliminated in week 4, was asked by Harrison to appear for the second season of Bachelor in Paradise. She didn't give a complete answer. Harrison resumes to talk with Whitney and asks about Iowa and being a part of Chris' family. Afterwards, Jimmy Kimmel arrives at the studio and surprises them with a cow named Juan Pablo. At the end of the show, Harrison announced that there would be two bachelorettes on the next season of The Bachelorette. Kaitlyn and Britt will both appear on the first episode, where the 25 men will decide who they want to be the bachelorette.
