Tranmere is a suburb of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, Australia. The suburb is in the local government area of City of Clarence, and lies in close proximity to Howrah. It is named after a suburb of Birkenhead in the Wirral Peninsula in England.
Tranmere is a riverside suburb, with views across the Derwent River to the Hobart city centre. It is mostly residential and is one of the fastest growing areas in southern Tasmania[citation needed].
Tranmere in Old Norse is Trani-melr, meaning "Cranebird sandbank" or "sandbank with the Cranebirds".
