"Viel zu weit" ("Much too far") was the German entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1993, performed in German by Münchener Freiheit.
Münchener Freiheit had their breakthrough in Germany and neighbouring countries with the singles "Ohne dich (schlaf' ich heut' nacht nicht ein)" and "Tausendmal du" in 1986 and went on to have a series of Top 20 hits. Internationally they are best known for their 1988 recording "Keeping the Dream Alive" with the London Symphony Orchestra, a #14 hit in the UK in December of that year. The band released three English language albums, Romancing in the Dark, Fantasy and Love is No Science - then under the group moniker Freiheit.
"Viel zu weit" was performed third on the night, following Turkey's Burak Aydos with "Esmer yarim" and preceding Switzerland's Annie Cotton with "Moi, tout simplement". At the close of voting, it had received 18 points, placing 18th in a field of 25.
The song is a ballad, with the singer describing "untouched worlds" and comparing them to the problems of our own. Münchener Freihet also recorded the song in English (as "Far Away"), French ("Très loin") and Spanish ("Un sueño nada más").
It was succeeded as German representative at the 1994 Contest by Mekado with "Wir geben 'ne Party".
