WNYO is a student-run college radio station broadcasting from the State University of New York at Oswego in the City of Oswego, New York.[1][2] Broadcasting from the heart of SUNY Oswego at the campus center, WNYO broadcasts music of almost any genre (although the station has attempted to separate the music played to a few different categories: Indie, loud rock, urban, and country). Those outside the city of Oswego can go to the WNYO website (www.WNYO889.org) and click the streaming option to listen from anywhere in the world. WNYO has been increasing its presence in the digital media world with a presence on Facebook as well as Twitter.[3]
WNYO also broadcasts Oswego State Lakers sporting events live on 88.9FM for the City of Oswego and on the internet on their webcast The sports department launched their own blog in the summer of 2007 at WNYOsports.com but has since been discontinued. WNYO's sports department primarily broadcasts hockey and basketball, and because the college lacks a college football team, broadcasts select high school football home games hosted by the Oswego High School Buccaneers.
WNYO offers a news hour three times per week, two with a focus on local news, local weather, as well as big stories from across the country and around the world. Other segments include health, campus events, politics and more. The third show is entertainment news, focusing on pop culture and celebrity news.
WNYO was also the home station for the award winning show and podcast 4 Guys in a Booth. The show won numerous awards during its original on-air run from Fall of 2010 to Spring of 2014; the show was nominated for "Best Talk Show" a record 3 times, winning the award twice. 4 Guys in a Booth is considered one of the most successful shows in the history of WNYO.
WNYO competes in an annual softball game for the "golden pitcher" with on-campus television station, WTOP 10.[4]
