The Winston Preparatory School [1] is a co-ed school located in New York City with a second school that opened in Norwalk, Connecticut in September 2007.

Winston Preparatory School is chartered by the State of New York and is a member of ISAAGNY, NYSAIS[1] and NAIS. The New York School is accredited by NYSAIS. The Norwalk school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The teaching staff is composed of formally educated individuals with degrees in a wide range of disciplines.

The school was originally located on West 76 Street in Manhattan. In September 2004, the school moved to a larger facility at 126 West 17 Street in Manhattan in order to accommodate a larger population, with students commuting from Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut in addition to all the boroughs. In September 2007, Winston Connecticut opened its doors at 57 West Rocks Road in Norwalk.

Winston's curriculum emphasizes skill development within the context of traditional course work. With a philosophy of Education for the Individual, faculty employ a variety of methods and programs. The typical school day includes one hour-long period each of Mathematics and Science, one 45 minute period each of Literature, Writing, History, Focus and either Physical Education, Music or Art. Approximately 90% of Winston graduates go on to college.

Focus Program

Winston Prep utilizes its trademark Focus Program to provide daily one-to-one instruction to all students. The Focus Instructor is the main contact for the student's family, providing frequent feedback and information via email or telephone. Focus Instructors also maintain daily contact with the teams that teaches each of their students.

After School Activities

Students are provided the opportunity to participate in sports through the ever expanding program. The New York school currently offers Soccer, Basketball, Track & Field, Cross Country, Golf, and Softball. The Norwalk school offers Crew and Tennis and is building their program. Both schools also provide an after school study hall period.

The New York After School Program offers, for an additional fee, classes in technology, photography, singing/cabaret, yoga, boxing and others depending on student interest.

Learning Support Center

The Learning Support Center offers academic support, speech and language therapy and educational assistance for adults and K-12 students. The program offers sessions similar to the Focus Program, providing strategies to strengthen skills and foster greater independence. Sessions take place from 4:00 to 4:50 PM and 5:00 to 5:50 PM.
