Acoma pottery

A very fine Acoma Pueblo, late 19th century polychrome Olla. Painted dark brown and orange design on a white ground, with large areas fired gray. Shrinkage crack extends from rim to shoulder; wear and rubbing consistent with use.

Acoma Pottery: Pueblo Traditional Name: Haaku Acoma Pueblo is situated on top of a mesa, hundreds of feet above the surrounding land west of Albuquerque NM.

The Acoma pueblo, located in New mexico about 40 miles east of Albuquerque, is said to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the United States, with evidence dating it back to 1150 A.D.
