There’s a reason for this- When using a permanent colour for full grey coverage- the peroxide used will shift your natural colour a little bit. Whenever we lift the hair- it will ALWAYS go warm (this happens to everyone)- so as long as you are using a permanent colour, this will always happen, and you will always have that brassy colour through the ends of the hair (unless it’s lifted out with bleach) So what’s the alternative? Jack Martin on Instagram: "If you want to try to take your client to her natural hair color my first advice to you is to ask your client to grow her natural roots about 3-4 inches so you can have a clear view of her root pattern that you can easily see it and match the previously colored hair to her roots pattern. Never alter or touch her natural roots because if you do you will create another line of demarcation and that’s what you need to stay away from. For this transformation I used @pulpriothair cream bleach with 20 vol developer until I reached level 10 pale blonde. I then used @pravana platinum express toner for about 15 minutes with zero lift developer to cancel all the yellow tone, then I used pravana 8sbv ( Smokey series) to create the low lights based on the roots pattern. Small root application is hard, and the smaller the roots, the harder it is.

It may sound obvious, ofc it’s harder when you have less room to work with!

When a client comes to me for a maintenance appointment that is before the 8 week mark I use a single application method. As the hair which needs bleaching is closer to the scalp, the blood flow creates a warm environment which encourages the bleach to oxidise faster.

If the hair regrowth is more than approximately 2.5cm away from the scalp the hair won’t get that heat and that lack of heat is whats going to cause banding.

Believe it or not, banding has nothing to do with the clients natural hair depth or the products you use.
