Nagano City is a monzen-machi, a town that developed around a temple or shrine. For 1,400 years Zenko-ji Temple has been a popular pilgrimage site, famous for its "hidden Buddha", one of the first Buddha statues brought to Japan. Thanks to @jreast_us I was able to travel to Nagano prefecture for the first time! I visited some of the top spots and I recommend them all. Here is where to go the and regional foods to eat there on your future trip:

1. 🏯Matsumoto - Matsumoto Castle, Daio Wasabi Farm, Nakamachi old district (Frog Street).
2. 🐒Yamanouchi and Snow Monkey Park (Jigokudani Yaen Koen).
3. 🍜Nagano City and eat all of the delicious regional foods (Shinsho Miso Ramen, Sanzokuyaki fried chicken, Oyaki dumplings, Soba noodles, Basashi meat, & insects.

🚄The JR East Pass gives you unlimited travel on trains and Shinkansen in the area covered around Nagano and Niigata for 5 consecutive days. Even foreign residents can use the pass.
