Living in Indiana, fall and winter temperatures get less than 55 degrees consistently which would prevent us from being able to anchor orchids or other plants to trees so this will just have to do. When choosing a board, choose one that is rot resistant. I used cork bark since it doesn’t rot but it’s also very easy to make holes in. It’s fairly plyable. Hang in a spot that will get light, water the moss when it’s almost dry, and you can incorporate liquid orchid fertilizer in the water when blooms fall off. Adding perlite and orchid bark add more texture and prevent the soil from becoming compacted. Water is able to freely penetrate the soil to get to the plant’s roots and then drain excess out the bottom of the pot. This well draining soil helps you avoid your plants roots sitting in water that eventually leads to root rot. Recipe is: equal (ish) parts of these 3 things: -potting mix -perlite -orchid bark Using air-tight container makes it easy to premix and store. If you notice moisture in your container, open the lid every so often to let it dry out! Comment MIX for a dm with the products I’m using.
