The Potters Shed • Pottery Classes in Adelaide on Instagram: "We have centered and opened the clay, now its the tricky part! To pull up the walls you will need a lot of practice. Its very hard to tell you the exact amount of pressure that needs to be applied. A few simple steps can be really helpfull tho. First and foremost, keep your clay slippery! I cannot stress that enough. Dry walls are recipe for disaster. 😅 The largest amount of clay that you will have to move is from the base of your pot. So pinch that clay and bring that up. Try to keep your hands connected, specially when your pot is not too tall yet, it will help with keeping the finger position in place, with the same distance all the way up. I usually recommend my students to start applying less pressure and slowly Pottery Pulling Up, Pinch Pot Pottery, Pottery On The Wheel, Pinching Pottery, Simple Pottery Ideas, Potters Shed, How To Make Ceramic, Pottery Making Illustrated, Pottery Pinch Pot

The Potters Shed • Pottery Classes in Adelaide on Instagram: "Opening the base of your pot is a very simple task but a few tips can make your life easier for when you start pulling the walls. First, make sure you keep your hands connected, having them touching gives an anchor for the finger opening the clay, and it reduces your chances of having uneven walls during the opening. Second, aim for that V shape to start with. It will be easier to fix if you have gone too far down, or if its still too thick on the base. Third, when you start opening, try to pull towards yourself in a straight line, carefull to not go lower, we tend to apply pressure down when opening, and it will make that part of the base thinner, you will have to work more to make your base levelled. I put my hand in to the position shown in the video, I find it very useful to make the edges narrower. TMC Pottery Australia on Instagram: "Have you ever made a bowl using this technique before? Generally, I pull my bowls up from the base upwards, slowly bringing the clay out to get the shape but this time around, I decided to actually open it from the inside out to see whether or not it would give me a different look One of the most important things when you are with throwing is to constantly try new techniques and figure out new ways, you can do the same thing. For this particular bowl, I decided to shape it a little differently, which ended up making it one of the most consistent bowls in terms of proportion I’ve made! This may be a new way that I make these shapes on the wheel head. Let me know how you make yours?! Or if this is a similar technique that you use, and as always, hope y Pottery Pulling Up, Throw A Bowl On Wheel, Beginning Wheel Throwing, Throwing A Bowl On The Wheel, Throwing Bowls Pottery Wheel, How To Throw A Bowl On The Wheel, Pottery Ideas Wheel Thrown Beginner, Pottery Bowl Shapes, Pottery On The Wheel Ideas
