Stain can also be temperamental and leave uneven lines/blotches. Paint washing is very forgiving, easy to sand off if you make a mistake and you still get to see that beautiful grain. NO SURPRISES: Often when I use stains, I am left feeling disappointed that the color was not what I was going for. Stain penetrates the wood, which means it will change color depending on what type of wood you are working with. When paint washing you can choose any color you want. Grey wash, tan wash, white wash, whatever look you are going for. I do a test spot then add more water or paint as needed. Then I wipe it back with a cloth. I will wait to see how it looks when it dries and determine if it needs a second coat. (Contains affiliate links!) HOW I DID IT: -removed hardware and cleaned with a degreaser -sanded to raw wood with a 120 then 220 grit and my @festool_usa sander! -applied a tan paint wash followed by the stain “antique oak” by @generalfinishes -topcoated it, hated it so went in with “van dyke brown” glaze by @generalfinishes to even out the color. (It worked!) topcoat again with @minwaxusa polycrylic -painted the top black to hide the massive damage - spray painted and rubbed gliding wax on original hardware to get the perfect antique look I personally love how this one turned out and I’m glad I got to Wood Furniture Restoration, How To Antique Paint Furniture, Black Wash Furniture Diy, Tan Wash Furniture, Painted Buffet Ideas, Waxing Painted Furniture, Ratan Furniture, Refinished Buffet, Redoing Furniture
